I went camping for the weekend. I tried to arrange a substidooter but nobody was available. So instead, you get a bulk drop of retroactive doots. Here they are:

Looks like even US and EU ledgers could be at risk. The guy supposedly purchased the tampered device from a giant retailer in the EU (MediaMarkt).

It seems to affect recent ledgers bought not from their official website but from authorized resellers. The attack vector might be a user buying a hardware wallet, modifying it and returning it, the store then sells the tampered device.

Do we know the time period of affected Ledgers?

My recommendation at this stage for anyone with a new Ledger would be to set up a wallet and just put a small amount in there to see if anything happens to it before slowly adding more bit by bit.

Or just getting a different hardware wallet of course!

Recent months it seems for ones affected in Asia. I think there was an owner change this year for the retailer.

Returned tampered devices could have been a thing forever. Makes me wonder if people I have read over the years that swore on being careful and never doing anything with their crypto if some lost their seed this way.

If I were running a store of any repute, I would be destroying returned hardware wallets and eating the cost.

It’s not worth the reputational risk to resell a product that’s worth less than $100.

Why is "hardware wallet reseller" even a thing, I don't get it.

Maybe because the actual manufacturers are bigger targets for data breaches?

I'm playing devil's advocate here, I'd rather take a risk on the data front and if possible deliver it to a proxy address, better yet with not my real name or phone number where possible.

Does this 4 year record high in ETH margin longs signify smart money or is it a contrarian indicator?

If you look up the CME Big-contract futures, "asset managers", usually dumb money, is still net short here.
