Feels like Sunday Pump weather, don't you think? Nice big dip on the week, folks trying to get ahead of the market?

So whatβs with all the longs on eth posts on X today. Are things going to pump soon?
2
u/CryptoFructo 2d ago
Yes things are going pump. But is ETH going to be one of the pumping things?

Was it a good idea for Justin Drake to call for calm mass migration due to AI/Quantum? I thought the EF had a plan for the threat and we were in a good position to deal with it. Bad optics imo rather than working on the solution and reaffirming the community. "Run to the bunker (calmly)" is not something any company would say about their products.

u/laninsterJr 2d ago
Ethereum is open source product. Security through obscurity isn't going to work. Public should be educated as soon as possible so people can scrutinized things and take preventative actions if needed.Β

u/asdafari14 1d ago
Starknet's token is up 5x in less than a month after announcing a potential move away from Ethereum to their own L1 for AI and quantum resistance.
It feels like Ethereum is dropping the ball massively imo. It's like we don't have a plan or it is so bad that nobody believes in it, including the top EF researcher.

it wasn't for quantum. it was for possbility of non quantum ai breaking the private key from knowing the public key. Drake has also warned of quantum and budget.day. in my opinion he is exaggerating risks on all three for whatever reason. whatever short term gain he makes will be offset by loss of reputation in time as he is proven wrong on his timescales.

I think cryptic concern is never the tone I want to hear from a security minded person. It implies there are long tail risks I haven't modeled which could catch me unaware.

don't shoot the messenger: ETH is not part of the crypto allocation proposed by Citrini Research, and this is probably what most investor think when they dig into ETH:
(their thesis is confirmed by the full retrace of the ratio pump, narrative needs to change for us.)
"- ETH fees continue to drop (real yield was at its lowest ever in Q3)
- Inflation is rising as a result (more issuance relative to user fees compensating validators)
----
This is happening despite the success of the L2 roadmap (in terms of adoption, not value accrual to ETH)
So, the natural questions for an investor:
- If BTC is viewed as digital gold, occupying the mindshare of investors looking for a digital SOV, what is ETH?
- If ZEC is increasingly viewed as high beta to BTC (more upside) as an alternative private SOV, what is ETH?
- If apps built on top of ETH have strong product-market fit and are returning value to token holders via buybacks (yet trade at a fraction of the L1), what is ETH?
- If Solana has higher velocity and real yield to tokenholders, what is ETH?
----
The reality is that ETH needs a narrative.
It's stuck in no mans land right now, in my opinion (cannot compete with BTC on SOV, and other projects return more value to tokens, with far greater upside)
I thought one potential catalyst might be institutions building on Ethereum and acquiring ETH for their balance sheet.
But just this week Robinhood decided to buy BTC instead.
----
We can argue about whether fees matter or not. I agree with the framing of Ethereum as an economy.
But if the narrative for investors is that "it creates lots of value for others but receives very little value in return"
and
"it has lots of TVL and stablecoins"
Well. Then there might be an opportunity cost to holding it this cycle compared with other assets in the market."
2
u/---Truthseeker--- 2d ago
ETHs narrative is that as it evolves there may eventually not be a need for other L1s. These 3 projects are just temporarily holding their narratives.
What happens to the narrative of BTC when ETH is quantum proof and starts to ossify its core? BTC is not evolving so currently the safe SOV. ETH is continually improving and ai is now helping it figure out and code to continue becoming more secure. Its a matter of time before security is significantly better than BTCs.
...ZEC when ETH implements privacy?
...SOL as Ethereum continues to improve speed and fees while L2s do the same. Sol does have a narrative on finality but the edge on speed and fees is significantly weaker.
Back in 2021 ETH was much slower and expensive. Fees are now significantly less and will continue to drop. Speed is significantly faster and will get faster. The narrative doesnt hold the same weight it did in 21/22.
ETHs time is coming!

Btc will have more inflation long term, they will hard fork just like monero did to raise inflation to pay the miners.
-3
u/eth10kIsFUD 2d ago
ETH inflation is much too high. Recommending a trusted staked ETH is just not nice.
We need to fix the rampant issuance of ETH, fixing issuance could single handedly return Ethereum to being ultrasound and actually accruing the benefits of the energy efficient PoS directly to the price of ETH.
5
u/DiskFearless4448 2d ago
ETH inflation is approx. 0.3%. Nowhere close to rampant issuance.
if that was too high the world would not be able to function lol. I understand the broader point about changing issuance to regulate the staking pool, but the current issuance rate is nowhere near the primary reason ETH isnt more valuable.

u/eth10kIsFUD 2d ago
That number is wrong and assumes burn over the last 4 years. ETH inflation over the last day is higher than BTC which, if you understand how those two systems work, is insane. Closer to 0.9%. More important than this is that it keeps increasing as more ETH is staked. It will eventually hit 2%+
Issuance is currently around 3k ETH per day. That's $7,500,000 every single day at current prices. To run a couple NUC's? The whole point of Ethereum is that the network is extremely light weight and cheap to run.
I agree it's not the only reason, but the current issuance curve is unsustainable and needs to get a long term fix so we can ossify issuance.

u/LogrisTheBard 2d ago
Why does ZEC get a free pass on its inflation and not have to earn its place by the same metric as ETH? Does Solana actually return more real yield after accounting for inflation? It seems like ETH is uniquely judged by more adult standards than anything else in the industry.

u/Numerous_Ruin_4947 2d ago
Because it still has the finite 21 million cap to fall back on. The current supply is 16.98 million. The next ZEC halving is apparently in 2028 when it will be lowered from 1.5625 ZEC to 0.78125 ZEC.
Why ZEC is "Ahead" on the Reward Drop
You might notice that 12.5 ZEC per 10 minutes still doesn't perfectly match Bitcoin's current 3.125 BTC per 10 minutes. This is due to a timeline shift:
- Bitcoin launched in 2009 and has undergone 4 halvings (moving from 50 β 25 β 12.5 β 6.25 β 3.125).
- Zcash launched later in 2016 and has only undergone 2 halvings (moving from 12.5 β 6.25 β 3.125 β 1.5625). [1, 2, 3, 4]
Zcash's individual block payout is numerically lower right now simply because it slices the same 10-minute "pie" into 8 smaller pieces (and soon 24 even smaller pieces with NU7) to support a much faster, more responsive network. [1, 2]

u/WoodpeckerHorror3468 2d ago
it doesn't get a free pass on inflation but the privacy outweighs it in the eyes of investors.
1
u/Numerous_Ruin_4947 2d ago
Sommi keeps yapping on YouTube that Zcash does not have privacy and is a Mossad operation. He asks why no criminals are using Zcash if it is so private? And that they prefer Monero instead due to its privacy feature. He provides not evidence to back up his claims that I am aware of.
Your thoughts?
11
u/LogrisTheBard 2d ago
So why not Monero, Secret Network, or other private chains? Why is ZEC a good investment? If and when ETH has privacy I guarantee it won't change the anti ETH narrative.
1
u/Numerous_Ruin_4947 2d ago
Sommi on YouTube claims criminals prefer Monero and its real privacy. And he claims Zcash is an Israeli / Mossad operation with backdoors. I have not looked into it more, and I am not sure if he has provided evidence to back up his claims.
6
u/Alatarlhun 2d ago
To speed race to the real answer: The Winklevoss twins are the only reason ZEC is being considered by these moronic investment houses.
0
u/WoodpeckerHorror3468 2d ago
ZEC got the hype. I don't own it and never have but ask anyone who does and they bought it for the privacy and don't even think about issuance.
1
u/Numerous_Ruin_4947 2d ago
And some claim that's because it is an Israeli project so it will benefit because of that reality. I have not looked into it - just mentioning what I've heard on YT.

u/epic_trader π¬π¬π¬ 2d ago
Precisesly. What chain actually has "value accrual" on its base layer? What chain actually has 0 inflation while also being able to maintain security and decentralization?
Not going to deny there's a thing such as narratives, but all these narratives are BS.

u/Mental_Donut_4365 2d ago
Ethereum needs an infographic on its value proposition. Explaining sol isnβt decentralized is difficult
1
u/Numerous_Ruin_4947 2d ago
Ethereum needs charismatic advocates going on news stations and financial shows with a bold, memorable message: βEthereum is going to $100,000 - and eventually $1 million.β Thatβs the kind of messaging Bitcoin has benefited from for years.
You donβt need another infographic. Most people wonβt stop to study it. You need someone making a sandwich in the kitchen to hear a voice on the living-room TV say, βEthereum is going to $1 million.β Then they need to see that same message in a headline somewhere else. And then they need to see the price start moving.
Notice I said Ethereum in every headline - not ETH. Bitcoinβs loudest advocates lead with βBitcoin,β not βBTC.β Thatβs the name people recognize. They open an exchange because they want to buy Bitcoin. BTC is simply the ticker they receive.
Ethereum needs that same consistency. From a branding standpoint, separating ETH from Ethereum only makes the message harder to understand. People should immediately connect the name they hear on TV with the asset they can buy.
βHey, I want to buy Ethereum. Where do I get it?β
βOpen your trading app, search for Ethereum, and hit buy.β
βAnd the ETH in my wallet?β
βThatβs your Ethereum, bro.β

Do you think sophisticated institutional investors need a "narrative" to decide about ETH as an investment?
And that is the only thing that will drive whether ETH has a monetary premium, massive pools of capital that decide so.
And whether or not ETH achieves a more substantial monetary premium than it has is a fully open and utterly unanswerable question at this point.

u/Numerous_Ruin_4947 2d ago
Do you think sophisticated institutional investors need a "narrative" to decide about ETH as an investment?
Can we stop separating ETH from Ethereum. That just confuses the narrative.
Nobody talks about BTC. Has Saylor ever mentioned BTC in headlines? All you hear from him is Bitcoin. Your sentence should have read like this:
Do you think sophisticated institutional investors need a "narrative" to decide about Ethereum as an investment?
1
u/FoucaultCareofSelf 1d ago
So, ETH is the token that is investable, Ethereum is the network that institutions may use enormously without buying ETH.
Like, separating the two is essential for intelligent discourse.
"Confusing the narrative" is what you want to do. Also, you think there's one narrative in the age of global information flows? LOL.

u/epic_trader π¬π¬π¬ 2d ago
Do you think sophisticated institutional investors need a "narrative" to decide about ETH as an investment?
Yes. Sophisticated investors are not as smart as people who haven't met a lot of sophisticated investors think they are.

u/nonetherless325 2d ago
I don't know it's frustrating.. It feels like there is a bitcoin cult at the wheel and they would rather have anything winning but Ethereum. last cycle btc maxis were cheering for Solana now it's ZEC. Don't tell me the Wankervoss gemini brothers care about "satoshi's dream" and cypherpunk ethos - they just want to run it back from a low market cap

It's a mathematical guarantee that you beat dilution. Dilution comes from the exact issuance staking creates. So as long as 100% of ETH isn't staked, if he stakes what he has then he is at least retaining his 5% share. Not to mention there are higher on-chain yields for ETH than staking.

Token was pretty gross im ngl gang.
Not much Ethereum culture at all, guess I wasnβt expecting it but damn is the commercial hypergamblifcation of this industry not very tasteful.
Real barbell between this speculative economy and institutional adoption.

That was the reported vibe from other people the last few years. If you're shilling a token and live for that rat race then you like it. Otherwise it's a place devoid of the core Ethereum values.
