The only person I know actively holding crypto as an investment told me today they're probably doubling up, and they have some largely clueless friends ready to jump in (talking solid 5 figures a piece). Momentum beginning to build? Seems bullish.

For the US crowd. With treasuries and mortgages going higher do we think at some point soon weβll see an influx of of money brought into crypto after people give up on houses saying screw it I canβt afford a house so I might as well try crypto?
2
u/HauntedJockStrap88 7d ago
No. Is this really where we are at now? Our killer app for retail is going to be as a gambling outlet for the homeless? lol.
Idk man Iβm sure there will be some idiots who canβt afford a house that will come to gamble on crypto. But those people ainβt buying ETH theyβre going to lose it all chasing the dragon on some >1 billion dollar Mkcap shitcoin lol.
With treasuries going higher, historically, the only thing that should probably happen is more institutional investors will sell their crypto bags for those sweet risk-free returns. Ofc, this hasnβt happened as of yet. Hopefully this time is different.

That was literally me in 2017. Crypto or bust. Ask me if I have a house yet, hahah

Just watched an interview with Swift Ledger guy Tom Zschach saying it doesn't have settlement - that it will be done on "high volume chains like Ethereum and Solana.." I'm not sure that we knew this for sure up until now

u/WoodpeckerHorror3468 7d ago
how does settlement on multiple chains work?

What do you guys think about ETH vs HYPE long term ?
0
u/asdafari14 7d ago
HYPE is riskier, I read about companies getting approved for perp trading every week, but I think the potential is higher.
1
u/Magic_Cove 7d ago
Iβve recently heard speculation that Hype and Near or Quant could replace BTC and ETH... That is absolute nonsense and doesn't warrant further attention.
0
u/NorageFromFrance 7d ago
Well a friend told me that eth was too old and Hype was answering better or at least faster to the new needs. Its use based, not about speculation but technicals. Basically doing the same but faster, easier

u/vvpan 7d ago
I do not think you should be downvoted but I think the problem is comparing Hyperliquid and Ethereum at all. Hyperliquid is one specific type of trading application and Ethereum is a platform. So your friend is saying something like "Doordash app is better than Android".
1
u/asdafari14 6d ago
Hyperliquid is aiming to be the house for all finance. Ethereum is like Android in spirit. With the caveat that finance is all the users are interested in.

Well, at least we tried for a few more minutes today, but one hour post US market open is too damn long to stay above 2700.

Is anyone seriously positing tokenized stocks are anywhere close to their 'final form'? I mean, it's about the 1st inning of tokenized assets.

I think the RWA story is going to be driven by whatever AI is best suited for, even now with general AI (vs AGI). Eg, AI driven portfolio builders going out and assembling assets according to asks for risk/reward, income, reputational validation, etc.

If you had a lot of money and a lot of patience and want to attain as much wealth as possible? This is exactly what you'd do. Keep propping up the legacy tech so that people keep buying into that for as long as possible so you can accumulate the real asset of value for as long as possible without pushing it into btc price terrority.

Is it over for apes? 150 to 5 floor.Β Only punks matters in NFTs?

u/mini_miner1 7d ago
Why's everyone talking about apes suddenly? Did they experience a sharp drop just now? I don't know anything about nft pricing.
1
u/laninsterJr 7d ago
I guess recently punk sold for like $3million and most sales are over 100k. Apes kinda used to be the same category but never seem to able to attract buyersΒ

Crabtober.

u/tokyo_guy375 8d ago
When I read what many people on Reddit are saying about the future of Ethereum, I notice how often the discussion focuses on potential price targets above the crab. People are talking about Uptober, $10,000, and in some cases even $25,000 for ETH. At the same time, RAY has been in a downtrend for years, and that trend has yet to be sustainably broken. Simply hoping for $5,000+ while ignoring RAY feels very short-sighted to me. A much healthier development for Ethereum would be a strong rise in RAY, even if the dollar price barely changed as a result. That would show that Ethereum is actually gaining strength within the crypto market again. Of course, many people are right when they point out that Bitcoin has a huge investor lobby and a very strong narrative behind it. But this is also where I see a flaw in the assumption that Ethereum will gain long-term adoption simply because of its utility and technological development. Technological relevance does not automatically translate into financial relevance for the asset. The worse ETH performs against Bitcoin over the years, the harder it becomes to convince investors that ETH is the more attractive long-term investment. That is why I believe Ethereum needs more than technology and real-world utility. It needs a strong narrative, clear positioning, and significantly more attention from investors. I find it unlikely that Ethereum can thrive in the long run without a strong lobby, serious marketing, and a meaningful evolution of its narrative. For me, the important question is therefore not whether ETH eventually reaches $5,000, $10,000, or $25,000. What matters is whether Ethereum can regain its relative strength against Bitcoin. A rising RAY would be a far more convincing signal to me than any arbitrary dollar price target. //Thoughts translated by AI as I am no native English speaker.//

Agreed. We're winning the tech war and losing the money war. We need a killer app. We needed one like 4 years ago. If brokerages onboard all the users, they'll absorb most of the benefits. Ethereum will benefit their bottom line substantially but I'll never see the cypherpunk values I joined this cause for realized.

I remember there was some hype around new groups that was created this past year, with the mission of marketing ETH and focusing on attracting investors / capital. Anyone that has followed them? How are they doing? Are they actually doing something?
4
u/LogrisTheBard 7d ago
Etherealize is still doing stuff but I wish they were louder about progress.
1
u/tokyo_guy375 7d ago
Totally forgot about them tbh. I thought they founded themselves to make Ethereum visible for βeveryoneβ outside the bubble

u/WoodpeckerHorror3468 8d ago
nah. $BTC is going to moon and drag ETH up with it. ETH will shine AFTER Bitcoin leads for a while longer. ETH holders should welcome this.
Saylor, other treas companies and the US treasury are working together to make BTC a mainstream investment, and the collateral for high yield instruments that are backed by BTC but less volatile.

same as Y2K fearmongering. it's an easily solved tech issue and well in hand.
5
u/harpocryptes 7d ago
The solution to the y2k problem was to fix the bugs, which was done. That's why no major issues occurred (small ones did). Calling it fearmongering suggests it was all made up, which is incorrect.
What's the solution to the (also real) btc security budget problem?
0
u/CryptoFructo 7d ago
Incentives measured in btc halve every 4 years.
If BTC goes up in $$$ by 19% per year that is more than 100% compounded over 4 years, offsetting the halving without any other mitigation whatsoever.
Budget day is a non issue. It's absurd to present this as a threat to bitcoin.
4
u/harpocryptes 7d ago
No. The fiat price of btc is irrelevant to the security budget issue, because when the price rises by x times, the rewards in fiat raise by x times, but the value of attacking bitcoin have also raised by x times. They cancel each other. It's the rewards measured in btc that matter, and those keep going down.
Just ask yourself this question: does a crypyo with a 1 billion USD market cap need the same security budget as a 1 trillion USD crypto? Obviously not! The security budget needs to be calculated in proportion to the value of the network, not to a fixed fiat value.
2
u/eth10kIsFUD 7d ago
It is extremely shocking how many people still think "btc price going up" can substitute the halvings.
2
u/harpocryptes 6d ago
It's a convenient, simple (but wrong!) narrative to sweep the issue under the carpet.
1
u/WoodpeckerHorror3468 7d ago
if the budget day theory is real then bitcoin fails, therefore the value of attacking it in this way is zero. you can't claim that you can attack it in such a complete and devastating trillion dollar exercise and then sell all the bitcoin at pre attack price
3
u/harpocryptes 7d ago
You can short it before attacking, earning profits on the crash itself.
5
u/WoodpeckerHorror3468 7d ago
interesting idea. how much is available to short and how much would the attack cost?
→ More replies (0)-2
u/WoodpeckerHorror3468 7d ago
the bugs were exaggerated. that was the fearmongering.
exactly parallel to the budget day hype. yes it's an issue and yes it's in hand.
ask grok to tell you the possible solutions and how much they cost. it's trvial to answer your own question.
