Be Ben Cowen

Preach, for 2 years, that the market will bottom in October 2026

Tell everyone that it's a sure thing

Wake up one day, in September 2026, and tell everyone that the 4 year cycle isn't an exact science and that we probably bottomed months ago.

Oops.

For ETH specifically he’s said it was likely ETH would bottom in the summer sooner than BTC just like it did in 2022

2

u/steppe5 22d ago

Yeah, his analysis is always "uh, whatever happened last time"

u/locoluko 23d ago

I find his analysis of current and past markets can be interesting

u/FreshMistletoe 23d ago

He does this every time.  The real question is why do people keep watching?

u/Tricky_Troll Public Goods are Good 🌱 23d ago

He was still directionally correct. The issue is people taking his words for gospel and expecting precise predictions. If you acknowledge that some things can't be known and that uncertainty is everywhere, there's still value in his analyses.

Not only that but he was quite close. Bottom early July and gets roasted because he said it would be October. It was like a year ago he first said the bull market was over, earlier than anybody. I was way too bullish on price.

I am not able to time any market and it is too difficult emotionally, so I don't even try, but I think he has beaten my returns if he traded some of his portfolio according to his statements.

u/M4gelock 23d ago

To his defense he admits when he's wrong. Ok I haven't watched him since 2020 or so, but he used to at least. People probably watch for entertainment, more so than arguably bad TA.

5

u/steppe5 23d ago

He didn't admit he was wrong though. In fact, he doubled down and said that he tried to warn you that anything could happen.

Which is the cop out of choice for these TA guys every time they're wrong.

"Look, I know I said it will go down, (every day for the last 6 months), but I also said that it could go up, (that one time)"

Which is true. Anyone watching those sorts of videos and expecting them to be 100% correct is delusional. People holding him up to such standards are unreasonable. It's like criticising the world's best poker player for losing a hand. Like, that's not how it works my man. It's a game of probabilities.

That’s anyone’s cop out. The majority of predictors in this sub will tell you anything can happen. People who want to fire off takes are confident when they communicate them. Ignore them

And the fun part comes if we get a big final dip.. "I told you so..."

9

u/Mr_Footies 23d ago

Absolutely did it the last time. When BTC was around 30k, after rebounding from 15k, he was still waiting for new lows that never came.

Why anyone thinks he can predict the bottom before it happens, when he can’t even recognise it after it has happened, god only knows.

the other day Vitalik posted: "My killer app is having a casual info lookup / research tool that's >50% as good as internet + frontier models that can function on a fully offline phone."

so I made a bounty to help bring his local AI dreams to life

started it with $50 on Ethereum mainnet, now $123 after two additional contributions

if Vitalik confirms a claim the money gets paid out, if he never does we get our money back (or nominate an exceptionally high-quality claim)

if you want to help the mission, add funding via: https://poidh.xyz/mainnet/bounty/31

think of it like joining an Ethereum mini DAO to incentivize an outcome u/vbuterin is passionate about

Is he taking about EdgeAI? It's a more of a billion dollar thing though. Bleeding edge research. There are companies working on it. Brainchip comes to my mind

I thought the e2b and e4b open source Gemma models were built specifically for phone inference.  I am toying with e2b on the ai edge gallery from Google on my phone.

https://github.com/google-ai-edge/gallery

Seems pretty usable but I'd love to be able to have a non-google packaging so I can know it isn't phoning home or deferring to a cloud instance.

update, bounty now at $250 thanks to a generous contribution from 0x7ecb7! 💙

I overpay, but I only buy good ones. If you’re happy to hold them for ever is it even a risk? Don’t answer that.

Anybody researched xStocks (stocks/ETFs tokenized by Kraken)?

I have a couple of questions I can't really find answers for. Context: I'm in EEA/UE

For the EEA users, Kraken offers only "conversion" option with large fee I believe. If xStocks are just tokens, does anything prevents xStocks to be trade outside Kraken? Are there any technical limitations or just lack of liquidity?

The other question I have is: when one use "conversion" and chooses eg. USDC to buy such token, what is visible on statement? Is there any info that USDC was converted into USD which was then used to buy xStock? (This question may sound weird, but it's important for tax reasons).

I do not really use the xStocks on Kraken, but I bought a tiny amount a year ago to test things.

does anything prevents xStocks to be trade outside Kraken

You can withdraw your xStocks token from Kraken to either Ethereum, Solana or TON. According to matcha.xyz, the liquidity on Ethereum seems to be rather small for some xStocks tokenized stocks. It also depends on the trade direction. I can find liquidity to sell them, but not to buy them, which is a bit weird. In other words, you can trade, but if you are not careful you will get a pretty bad execution price. xStocks was exclusive to solana for the first few months and they tried to get liquidity and usage there. There is better liquidity on solana, but the execution price still seems worse than on Kraken. As far as I see xStocks is rather geared towards people who want to keep their stuff on a CEX. If you want to stay onchain, then Ondo or the Robinhood L2 might be a better option than xStocks. But as I have used neither of those I cannot really tell if they really are any good.

when one use "conversion" and chooses eg. USDC...

Cannot answer this one, as I bought with USD directly and that is also what my transaction statement says: USD -> GOOGLx conversion. Maybe it makes sense to look at other transactions you did on Kraken and see if they get split up into the different steps or not.

EDIT: Looked a bit at Ondo and on Robinhood chain. Robinhood chain seems to have very good liquidity and execution prices.

u/reuptaken 22d ago

Thanks. What I like about xStocks is that there are ETFs available and I'm more interested in ETFs than individual companies.

5

u/reuptaken 23d ago

I did a bit of further research and it seems that there are other options to trade xStocks (other cexes but dexes as well). But it's bit concerning that onchain trading seems to be Solana-dominated (by far). Monolithic, cheap and fast (even if not decentralized) blockchain wins here with Ethereum and its multiple L2s. We need this EEZ sooner rather than later!
