Freebie I'm a student from India. I built my own publishing site from scratch and just finished a fantasy series of six books. Book 1 is free. I do not need your money. I need your honest feedback.

Hi everyone. I'm Piyush, a biology student from India. Over the last few months I have been building my own little corner of the internet, a site where I publish my writing. No team, no publisher, just me learning as I go.

Two things live there:

1. Free psychology ebooks. Short, practical books on things like why you feel behind in life, why nobody is actually thinking about you, and the strange psychology of everyday things like déjà vu. All free.

2. The Stone Plague. A fantasy mystery series I just finished. Six books and about 300,000 words in total. It is set in a city where people are turning to stone, except the stone is warm and the people inside are alive and dreaming. The hero is Tam. He is fourteen, the son of a stone cutter, and the only one who can hear them. Book 1, The Warm Stone, is completely free. Books 2 to 6 are on Gumroad for a few dollars each, but please do not feel any pressure there.

What I am actually asking for:

Read something free and tell me what you think. Honest feedback is worth more to me than sales right now. Did the first chapters hook you? Did the mystery work? Where did you get bored? I read every comment and I will genuinely use it.
If you enjoyed it, share it with one person who might like it. That is how small sites like mine survive.
If you want to support me, the paid sequels exist. Even just visiting the site helps more than you would think.

Free books: https://socialintelligenceco.vercel.app/free-ebooks
The series: https://socialintelligenceco.vercel.app/fiction/series/the-stone-plague

Thank you for even reading this far. I will be in the comments answering everything.

You can upload your ebook via your existing OpenAI or Claude subscription.
And you can even make changes to it with ChatGPT before you upload it (e.g. to create explanations or audio overviews).
Then it gets turned into an audiobook.

I hope you like it: https://pdftomp3.com/connect-ai/

E-Reader and Book Subscription Option for Kids

Hello

My apologies if this post does not fit within this sub, but it was suggested by the parenting subreddit. If it is not a great fit, please ignore ans accept my apologies.

We are planning an international backpacking trip with our young child who is an avid reader. We would like to purchase an ereader to support their reading while we are away, without taking physical books with us which are hard to carry in a backpack.

We are leaning away from a tablet as they are heavy in your hands; from my quick research I believe the lighting is different for a tablet vs an ereader (if I am wrong, please be kind!); and the battery power for an ereader would work well for our very long flights and travel days.

In Canada, Kobo seems to have a better interface with our public libraries (ours uses CloudLibrary), but that does not offer many childrens books for ereader.

I have a few questions:

  1. Does anyone know if there is a subscription program for childrens books (think early novels like Dragon Masters series) that we could purchase for a month or two?

I know Amazon Kids+ has a program, but I cannot see the titles of the books, and it is not clear if they allow a Kobo to use their Amazon Kids+. I am very confused and can not find a clear answer on their website. We are Amazon Prime members, I'm not sure if that detail is needed or not.

  1. If my husband and I decide to use the ereader when we come home for our trip. Does anyone have experience using CloudLibrary on their ereader? If so , how was your experience and what type of ereader do you have?

Any help, clarity, or suggestions would be so appreciated. Thank you and wishing you a great day of reading with a warm tea beside you!

Hi everyone, I finally published my first novel on Amazon in June. It was written in Italian (my native language), but thanks to the help of others, I managed to translate it into five languages besides Italian. Below, I've provided some information about the book, including the cover and links to the English edition. You'll find all the links and other essential information on my profile. Thanks everyone!

TITLE: NEXUS - A Supernatural Conspiracy Thriller of Ancient Aliens and Forgotten Gods

Author: Ashur E. Kinning

Genre: Supernatural thriller / Conspiracy thriller / Ancient mysteries

Pitch:

Damien Chapman is a jeweler in Lubbock, Texas. Ordinary life, ordinary problems, zero interest in ancient history. Then a car accident changes something inside him. His DNA starts waking up, carrying a bloodline the oldest texts called the Elohim. And a secret Order that has waited thousands of years for someone like him is now coming for him.

Built on Sumerian myth, the Anunnaki, the Nephilim and the Book of Enoch, NEXUS doesn't ask you to believe any of it. It asks what happens to an ordinary man if some of it turns out to be true.

Self Promotion Free iPhone app: download Project Gutenberg classics to an offline shelf, and listen to LibriVox audiobooks in the same place

Self-promotion, flaired as such. I'm the software developer.

When I built the book side of my free iPhone app, mChatAI, the two goals were an offline shelf and reading and listening in one place. So it has:

  • Reader: search and download Project Gutenberg books to a shelf that works offline, with read-aloud and a short summary of each book when you want one.
  • Audio Books: LibriVox recordings, read by human volunteers, downloadable for offline listening.

It's free, with no sign-up needed for either. Everything comes from Project Gutenberg and LibriVox, both legal and public domain. The app does other things too (it's a general AI app), but these two sections work without touching any of that.

App Store (iOS 26+): https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mchatai/id6445939409

I'd love feedback from people who read a lot of public-domain books: what makes a Gutenberg edition pleasant or painful on a phone?

Self Promotion I've made (another) reader with AI lookup, any suggestions?

Hello! I've been making an app for reading in my second languages (I have at least 3), I needed something easier than looking up a dictionary, that gives me background lores / cite a web search with source / explains metaphorical and figurative expressions - all without me having to open any browser...

I have released my first prototype on the store if anyone is interested 🙋‍♀️ https://apps.apple.com/us/app/starlit-ai-epub-reader/id6763839035

P.S. it's just a prototype at the moment but works perfectly for my small bookshelf 😅 if you're interested but won't consider using it, would any of those enhancement change your mind?

  • if it had a downloadable library
  • if you could use your own API key
  • if it supports offline AI lookup
  • ...if the UI were more polished?

Appreciate any suggestions 🙏

So I have a book in PDF form that I really wanna read, but PDF is so clumsy, I read currently in Apple Books, planning on buying a pocketbook verse.

I just figured out that PDF to EPUB converters are a thing, I feel like they will be kinda shit though. Has anyone used any, did it work well? If not, what went wrong?

Free for four days: my 600-page Home Assistant book (English and German)

Hi everyone,

For years I have been reading along here, picking up fixes, ideas and whole automations from people who took the time to explain things. This is my way of giving something back.

I wrote "Home Assistant: The Master Handbook", almost 600 pages, and from October 12 to 15 the Kindle edition is free, in English and in the original German:

Free from: 12. October to 15th October

English: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GYV8QZJN

German: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0HMLFKGF8

What's inside:

- From the first device through Zigbee, Matter, Thread and ESPHome to heating, solar surplus, home batteries and EV charging, all reproduced on a demo install running 2026.10

- AI integration done carefully: Assist, local voice, and Claude working directly with Home Assistant through MCP, with impact reports, approvals and an emergency brake, so it doesn't break your house

- A free AI Companion for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot that walks you through each chapter and applies it to your own home

- And my favorite part: "Silly Beginner Mistakes!", about 200 of the classic traps, sorted by chapter, each with how you notice it and how to fix it. You will recognize a few. I certainly did.

If you grab a copy, an honest review would mean a lot, critical ones very much included. Mistakes and missing topics go straight into the next version.

Thanks for everything I've learned here.

Thomas

Freebie I built a free library on the psychology of everyday life — 5 free ebooks, interactive detective games, and a thriller series. Looking for readers, not customers.

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm Piyush, a solo indie publisher from India. For the past few months I've been building Social Intelligence Co. — a site about practical psychology: reading people, understanding yourself, thinking clearer. No academic jargon, no guru fluff.

Everything below is live right now:

FREE (email signup, that's it):

Why You Feel Behind in Life — on comparison, ambition, and timelines. Progress is never a straight line; this is about why it feels like everyone else got the map.
The Art of Disappointing People — for people-pleasers. How to say no without guilt and stop trading your evenings for other people's comfort.
Nobody Is Thinking About You — the spotlight effect. Experiments show people notice you about a quarter as much as you think. Genuinely freeing once it lands.
Not Financial Advice — the psychology of money: status, scarcity, envy, and why "enough" is a direction, not a number.
The Ordinary Strange — my newest. Twelve everyday mysteries (déjà vu, dreams, contagious yawning, earworms, blushing...) explained with real research, every finding credited to the researcher.

PAID (what keeps the lights on):

The Meridian Files — a psychological thriller trilogy (The Errata Protocol, Rule Fourteen, The First Chair) following forensic psychologist Dr. Mara Voss.
The Art of Reading People and The Mind Palace Method — non-fiction, deeper dives.

INTERACTIVE (also free):

Mind Games — interactive case files where you play detective and work the evidence (The Empty Chair, The Glass Confessional), plus BLUFF, a 60-second deception-detection sprint.
Book IQ — a quiz game built on the 100 most-read books.

Plus free essays on the site if you just want to read something.

The free shelf is the point — I'm not here to hard-sell. If any of this sounds like your thing: socialintelligenceco.vercel.app. And I'd genuinely love blunt feedback — what should I write next?

I own a few kindle books - looking for a way to read them with my other ebooks

I understand that this is kind of a grey area within the rules, but since I am not asking about pirating the book(s), I feel that I should be OK to ask here. I have done extensive digging into this whole thing and I cannot seem to find a method that works. I want to download my Kindle ebooks and convert them to EPUB or MOBI without the DRM. I have Calibre, so removing the DRM is not the issue; the issue is that Amazon has made it next to impossible to download the books in anything but the Kindle app. I have an Android tablet which I use to read my ebooks, but I use Moon+ Reader. I really do not want to have to switch to Kindle just to read a few books, plus I much prefer not having to have an active Wi-Fi/data connection just to be able to read my books. Does anyone know of a way to download the Kindle books? The directory that the books are stored in is protected by the root system of Android, and there is no way to bypass it short of rooting the device, which I do not even know if is possible with the tablet. I am running Linux as my default OS and have access to Windows if I have to, but if anybody happens to know of a way to accomplish what I am trying to do, I would really appreciate it.
