Driftscussion PSA: You must flair your posts.

We automatically remove posts which are not flared with the appropriate topic that applies to your post.

If your post is not appearing after you make it, that's probably why. Check your flair and the bot should approve it in a bit. Before messaging the mods, check that first.

If you're not sure what to flair, then look at other posts to see what others have in the past.

Thanks all.

MOD RANT Before You Post: Read the Sidebar

On official Reddit Mobile App: Click on “Learn More About This Community.”

There seems to be a downward spiral in posted content recently, and the mod team has been doing what it can to filter it out. But the team isn't able to moderate every post as they happen.

A couple tips:

Read the sidebar. It has posting guidelines, it has starter car recommendations, it has the DRIFT BIBLE for beginners on techniques. Outside of actually getting seat time, the side bar should provide you with a very healthy amount of information. Anything else, just research it... That's part of the fun of learning a new skill or sport.

"Don't be an ask-hole." This is not Quora for drifting, its a subreddit to share cool stuff. Not to spoon feed every person who is moderately interested.

Lets keep this subreddit with positive content that supports each other. It can be frustrating for a content creator when when they see a snow donuts video get 500 upvotes, but someone can post a very legitimate edited and high quality video and they only get 4-5 upvotes.

edit: changed grammar to be less personable

Not my video from mlee211,

Am I the only one who thinks this is absolutely un-acceptable, borderline crazy, to purposefully contact someone outside of a chase?

Drifting in NYC

I have a license but it’s more for decoration. I’d like to be in the passenger seat and experience drifting, but I doubt I can just walk up to a driver and ask. How closed off is the community? Is it more like a IYKYK space?

Make my birthday dreams come true please!

Driftscussion RX-8 vs SN95

Post image
25 Upvotes

Hey everyone, for a bit of context I’ve had a 1994 v6 Mustang that I drifted probably 10 times. Most of it was on a skid pad at a drag strip but this weekend I went to a real track for the first time. The real track was so much fun and I now want to get a good drift car.

It feels bad spending money on my v6 mustang when the engine will never be good and the car has rust holes. I’m thinking I could either get a 4.6l sn95 mustang and transfer all the upgrades I did to my v6 to the new one or I found an extremely clean and low mileage rx8 for dirt cheap. I love the idea of rotaries but thought they couldn’t be drifted because of the lack of torque. However there were a few people shredding with 4.77 gears at the event

From what I understand the Mustang has very cheap body and overall parts and has good potential for 400hp but the weight distribution is terrible and SRA isn’t the best.
The rx8 on the other hand has a great chassis with 50/50 weight distribution but the engine is maxed out at stock power levels with 240hp and very little torque. I’m honestly not concerned about reliability and I feel like the rotary is the better engine to bounce of the limiter safely.

I’d love to build an rx-8 but would the sn95 be the smarter move, what’s your opinion on both chassis ?

Driftscussion Want to get into drifting seeking opinions and different view points

So I have been looking into my local drifting community and have become very interested in becoming more then an observer.

1: Mainly looking for opinions on what would be a good starting platform vehicle wise. Repairing and turning the car into a drift capable car is expected and definitely within my ability’s.

2: pointers for someone new to the sport and community

I’ve slung my cars around in an empty parking lot for fun but never really went further than that before. And before I just go spending money or anything I felt I should seek some advice from the community

Video Turning our Need for Speed Underground 2 inspired 350Z into a drift car!

Hey everyone!

Some of you might recognise our Nissan 350Z it's inspired by Rachel's iconic 350Z from Need for Speed Underground 2

We've been working on this car for a while, and now we're taking things to the next level by turning it into a drift build!

We're documenting the whole journey on our YouTube channel, from working on the car in the garage to hopefully getting it sideways on the track. We're doing the work ourselves, learning along the way, and sharing both the wins and the inevitable headaches that come with building a drift car.

This is just the beginning, and there's plenty more to come and I hope few of you may be interested in this content and we are open for any advisory from more experienced drivers

Driftscussion 4 or 8 bolts to mount this lip?

Thumbnail
gallery
23 Upvotes

For mounting this fiberglass lip, does it make more sense to have 4 or 8 mounting points? Not sure if the 4 in blue make more sense so it has some give & is less to repair when I go off track & it breaks off, or 8 to give it more rigidity to begin with. Going to use the same bolts/rivnuts as the over fenders

Driftscussion People who don’t drift anymore or have taken a hiatus i want your take

Hey folks. I’ve been drifting off and on for about a decade. I’ve had 3 or 4 different chassis at this point and a ton of fun when I was active.

Had a kiddo about 3 years ago and since then really haven’t put any time money or effort into the sport.

I’m a just for fun driver and have a party car g35 sedan. Has all the bits to make fun seat time car. (I also have a 350z as a fun weekend driver/autox and track day car that I’ve driven more since the kiddo)

Now here’s where I’m stuck. I love the sport I love the car I have v2 of it taking up a ton of space in my garage. I don’t have time, desire or the want to take away from my family to pursue drifting at the moment. And my buddy who drifted with me is not going to come back to the sport any time soon.

So for those of you in a similar position or been at this cross roads what did you do. Weigh in on it for me. As I see it I really have about 2 or 3 options.

  1. Just sell the g35 the motor swap body kit etc. cash out and move on from drifting.

  2. Do the motor swap and body projects while I’m not driving with out certainty that I return to the sport.

  3. Sell the car and use the motor in the 350z and have the driveshaft shortened.

FWIW I also haven’t driven the z in almost a year. Heh.

Orrr something else? I don’t “need” the money for anything so that’s not pressing more that my shit is rotting in my driveway from lack of use.
