Type 1 feelings being invalidated

Recently, I’ve been sending my boyfriend more videos about Type 1 diabetes and what having low or high blood sugar sometimes feels like. When I get high sugar which I do unfortunately get a lot I tend to feel very sluggish and tired. Sometimes, in the mornings, I usually run high, and as soon as I get out of the shower, I just hit my bed and cannot get up because my eyes are burning and I feel sluggish. This usually happens when my blood sugar runs high.

So I was telling him that this is why sometimes I’m tired, because of my blood sugars. Then he says not to be lazy and that people have things like cancer, and that kids in foreign countries have diseases but still keep going.I did get mad at him however he said that he was joking, but I felt like my feelings were being invalidated because, even though it isn’t an illness where I’m constantly in pain, I still struggle .

He is very understanding and tries his best to understand my illness and support me but that caught me off guard and made me mad even though he said it was a joke. Even when I first got diagnosed, I had a lot of people telling me things like, “You should be grateful that you don’t have this or that.” I feel like comments like these invalidate my feelings because, regardless of what other people are going through, I still have my own struggles. I know I’m never going to be the same person I was before my diagnosis, and that’s okay. I’ve accepted that my life has changed, but that doesn’t mean some days aren’t still difficult.

Taking things one day at a time, moderating my carbs, and exercising regularly does wonders!

After a couple weeks of infuriating blood sugars due to infections this is a big win - just trying to do the absolute best I can every day, and keep stacking days.

too much humalog

officially 1 month in as a diabetic and i made my first major mistake lol. i ate dinner and took my humalog at 9pm, went to go take my lantus at 10:38 and was distracted by my nephew and grabbed my humalog by mistake. luckily i only did 7 units of it instead of 20.

i called poison control and he just said to load up on ny snacks and he’d call me back in an hour to check on me.

i’m not really hungry enough to pig out, but i ate 4 pieces of bread, drank a cup of cranberry juice and im about to eat 2 packs of peanut butter crackers.

has this happened to anyone else? hoping someone can ease my mind as all i wanted to do was take my lantus and get some rest after a long day

Isn’t it crazy how normal people can eat honey? Let alone pour it on a chicken & waffle sandwich

Just heard a commercial on the radio about Chik Fil @’s new chicken and waffles sandwich, and the guy was like “oh man when you pour a bunch of honey on it!”

Dude it just blows my mind how normal people can eat honey

If we poured a bunch of HONEY, on top of BREADED chicken, in between… 2 WAFFLES…. we would die within like 3 hours of eating it😂

Seeking Support/Advice Is it weird for me to still think about someone teasing me about my diabetes a few years ago?

I feel a little silly for sharing this since it all happened online, but for context I was 14 and this event happened a week or two after I was diagnosed. It’s been multiple years since this took place and I still think of this every few months.

So what happened was; I remember telling one of my online friends at the time that I was just diagnosed. I was using proximity VC in a game we were playing since at the time I didn’t have any real way to talk to them outside of the game (again, 14 years old). We were talking in a public server in a game, and two guys who sounded fully grown came up to us in proximity VC to make fun of me and call me a “pig”. One of them told me I’d be better off developing an eating disorder, making numerous fat jokes, and he asked for my socials so I could post my “stomach rolls” for them to see. They pretty much just repeated all of that until I logged off. Of course I figured it would be better to ignore them, but to this day their comments have been stuck in my brain despite trying my best to forget them. I’m not even upset by their behavior and I don’t think I ever was for more than 15 minutes. I know it’s silly since it was all on a game and I should’ve just logged off after the first comment, but Idk I just can’t seem to forget it. I’m guessing maybe it’s due to the fact it happened so soon after my diagnosis but I want to hear what others may think.

Also I do want to apologize for any poor grammar, it’s like 5 for me so I’m not paying attention

Seeking Support/Advice Just diagnosed at 31, emotions all over the place, any advice/support?

Hi all! Was just diagnosed with type 1 after about 2 months of symptoms. My sister has been diagnosed with type 1 since she was 15 so I realized that a number of the symptoms I was having (increased thirst, peeing more at night, unexplained weight loss, yeast infection that wouldn't go away, etc.) she had before she was diagnosed. I asked my GP last week for a blood test and my A1C came back high (14). Follow up was today and now here we are.

Obviously this is a huge change, I'm going to be taking insulin for the rest of my life, and I'm feeling a lot of different things. Any advice? Especially from other people diagnosed in their 30s?

I am posting this cuz refuse to be the only IDIOT who learned this the expensive way. I thought I'd replace sugar with a sweetener and bake normally.

Merci d'avance

Rant 2 weeks of being on the ilet

• Upvotes

I recently did another post when I was only 3 days on the ilet and now I'm on 2 weeks so I'm here to update. The pump learned me really quickly. It was recommended that I eat what's usual for me for the first week, and space meals out every 4 hours. My blood sugar was great, this week I experimented with choosing to eat more or less food, and it was still great! (I eat high carb meals, and average 12 units for dinner and 7 for lunch)

No judgement, I went from averaging 30 percent in range to being 60+ daily. My highest in range was 91 and 88, and I was really excited about that, as I've tried the omnipod and Tslim and couldn't get my BG under control and pump sites leaking. I do have to change my site every day and a half because on average the pump gives me 80u/ 160u of insulin including meals, but honestly it's so easy.

This pump has definitely helped with my burnout and gives me hope that my a1c will go below 9 for the first time. Id recommend this pump to anyone who's prone to burnout / wants to think about everything less. I hope someone finds this post helpful because tbh we need more reviews on this pump

Rant Stress & otherwise unexplained glucose levels

This morning, I got up, walked around a little, took the dog out and walked a little bit. Came home, switched my pod, and holy moly, I'm veering toward 200. I take a bolus, maybe 2 units?

Walk to my weekly nearby farmer's mkt, get back home: now 250.

Aside from the pod change, as I left my house to go to farmer's mkt, an aunt of mine had texted me. Her husband my uncle died in June. While he was in hospice I had been contacting her and my cousins her kids. No one had texted / emailed / called me back. In our conversation she mentioned that we hadn't talked for a long time. True. I'd moved from another state back to her and my original state. So she was lying to me that we'd fallen out of touch, given both she and her kids had not returned my calls, msgs, emails. I guess that was my stress. But AGGRAVATING that this dumb stress shoots up my glucose crazily like this. Grrrrr!!!

SO angry! My body seems waaaay unmanageable lately.

Also looking for work.... I kinda think I am constantly low-grade anxious / stressed.

1 Question: Did you notice any changes in your skin before you became type 1? My skin was very dry before I got diagnosed. Did anyone noticed this?

I am on antibiotics and prednisone for a chest and lower respiratory infection. I feel like insulin is water at this point. It’s day one and I’m already over it 😭
FYI, my A1C is 6 and I’m typically 85-95% in range.

Discussion Dexcom app’s new terms and conditions

There’s an arb and class action clause and waiver. I’m opting out before using the app again but there’s something unconscionable about this because some people may hit continue without reading to access the app for treatment. And the “uninstall if you don’t agree” is wild for a healthcare app. This is not legal advice but common sense given the scrutiny companies like Dexcom are experiencing right now, you should read these T&Cs before agreeing too

Mental Health If you live alone, what do you do when you get scared?

Do you have someone you call? Do you have an action plan or something?

Tonight I got quite scared after my dinner spiked me way higher than it typically does. Double arrows up and everything. My thoughts go straight to something being very wrong. I checked my site which was fine, I checked my pump and it was fine as well. I'm now starting to fall, so things are getting back to ok.

But I got really scared. It hit me that I have no one to turn to in these moments.

I have a diabetic team I can call during office hours.

I have a therapist I can call during office hours.

I can't call family because they don't have any idea what to do. They only make me more anxious.

I posted on here asking for help, but quickly deleted it because I don't think anyone could even if they wanted to.

The only thing I can do in those moments is just.. cry.

What do you do when you feel nervous and feel like something is really wrong?

Discussion Just doesn't wanna go under 200 all morning. Makes no sense to me.

At 6am I was in the low 200s, second picture was before I woke up at 6am and bolused, then took my 5.56 bolus for the food. pre bolused.. Had 2 eggo waffles with a little strawberry jam. Like a smidge. ( Gonna start eating low carb foods in the morning ). But regardless of taking adequate insulin, it SHOOOOTS up to almost 400 and just take a look at how much bolus I took and even now at 1230 it just wants to sit at 210s. I'm starving and I don't even wanna eat my lunch if I gotta take 20 units to even bring it down. Just makes no sense to me. Haven't had these issues for 10 years up until the last few days. Tiring. Just look at how much insulin I took and all I had was 2 measly tiny eggo waffles. Absurd.

g7

I need an adult. I know I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I made the change from the g6 (RIP) to the g7 today and I'm trying to make it work with my pump and I can't. I'm tired and frustrated and I'm probably missing something dead simple and I just can't see what it is.

Can someone help me? Walk me through some troubleshooting? Walk me through some steps like I am a dumdum?
