Late Withdrawl?
Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could give advice or suggestions to help with some circumstances I’m going through.
Recently my life has been so chaotic with family issues, my only living grandparent passed away July 2026, and my little sister has no caretaker so I have to stay home instead of being able to commute an hr over to CSUN. I’m struggling with a class that’s in the mornings, and I’m barely able to get through the exams.
I know we have late withdrawal forms on campus, but is this a type of situation that could be approved? I’m really embarrassed about possibly failing if my home life continues to grow more restless. Any advice would be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

Totally. I wrote in my statement that my work schedule changed, that I'd exhausted all options, and that I understood I'd receive a "W" on my transcript. It was approved the next day. Proof or evidence is not actually required. If you are honest and say you have taken on a caretaking role out of necessity and that it interferes with attending class, you'll be fine. I read somewhere that they just don't want late withdrawals happening too much and/or that they want people to understand the permanence of the "W" on their transcript so they make it a bit harder.

For the signature requirement of the Associate VP, did you have to request it from your undergrad major or from the college of the course you had to drop? 🙏

This is the form I filled out and also attached a PDF of my "written statement" before emailing it. If you're referring to the signature of the associate VP on this form, that's not for you to obtain. Once you submit the form (via email) with just your signature, they will sign that and file it away in their records once the withdrawal request is approved (or denied but I doubt it).All I ever received back was an email saying my request had been approved and it showed up in my portal a day or two later.

I had my psych fill it out and they accepted my depression as a reason. If you don’t have a psychiatrist look into the campus resources.
