Meta Seeking feedback from the community

Almost 20k members, damn this subreddit took off.

Back when I had joined, there weren't even 10k members.

Anyways, I want the community's input on whether we should allow asking programming questions on this subreddit.

I know ChatGPT, StackOverflow and other forums exist, and the subreddit's name doesn't give that kind of vibe, but I still want the community's input.

Let me know.

Confused about career

Hi everyone. This is gonna be a bit long.

Tldr summary : cs 27 graduate unsure about programming, scared of ai, currently Infosys dse offer with 9 months to join. Looking for career advice.

After my 12th standard i wanted to join bsc physics and pursue the path of becoming a professor/researcher. I really enjoyed physics. But later than that I was convinced by my family to pursue engineering. I never felt an inclination towards it but still for my career safety i did pursue it. Never really felt like going to a hackathon or building software. Somehow liked dsa because it involved a bit of math and weirdly enough did enjoy the core cs fundamentals like os and algorithms. A few of the subjects i did like in college -> probability and random process, os, algorithms, applied statistical mechanics, sociology. The ones i hated are data structures, coa, etc. I hope I'm making some sense. I really don't know if i enjoy coding or not and especially in this ai market, even those who do enjoy are struggling. I do enjoy understanding the math and algorithms behind stuff.

I wanted to join Deloitte for the audit data analyst or zs btsa role just to explore some other options, but somewhere in their selection process i was rejected.

Because of my average dsa and cs fundamentals and a few of my ml projects, i did land a Infosys dse on campus offer. I have a 9 month runway before i join and want to make the best use of this time.

Can someone please advise me what to do. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you and have a great day!

UC Berkeley’s Master of Advanced Study in Engineering (MAS-E) — Is it worth 42,000+ USD (~40+ lakhs INR)?

Hey guys,

I was looking at the Master of Advanced Study in Engineering (MAS-E) from UC Berkeley College of Engineering (online via Coursera).

The curriculum is really eye-opening, it feels like you will be doing things of the year 2040 (including advanced electronics, microelectronics, quantum physics for semiconductor engineers, and cutting-edge robotics/AI).

Seeing it I can’t help but think: *Oh gosh, imagine if I am actually able to learn something like this from such a big school of engineering!

I’m not asking from the point of view of someone looking for a new job. Some people are already doing great at their jobs but sometimes you still want to create that learning room for yourself, basically lifelong learners. When you are well established, you just want to dive deep in mind blowing science and tech for its own joy.

but then the total tuition comes out to be about **$42,000 USD (which is roughly 35+ to 40+ lakhs INR)**.

For those who have researched this program, been a graduate, or had experience with other high end online degrees from top US universities:

* Does anyone else feel this way about wanting to learn high-end tech just for the thrill of it?* From the Indian engineer's perspective, is this kind of program really worth the big money, either for career growth or just as a life learner?

* Is the UC Berkeley brand name strong enough for online master’s degrees in terms of global opportunities or scratching that deep intellectual itch?

I'd love to hear your thoughts and honest opinions!

In 4 years of btech 3 years I was working

I am a 2025 btech CSE graduate 23F from tier 3 college with 7.5+ cgpa

After graduation I got into a service based company it's been 1 year now they are pushing for resignation

I started working when I was 19 years old and was able to work with 7 companies as intern before getting into this service based one.

I worked as a graphic designer, quality analyst, customer care chat and voice process, website designer, trainer, doing project pitch with clients and hiring people from 2022 to 2025

The F*kers were asking me on today's call "why aren't you good enough?"

By the people who have got the job with just the degree and we got by 3 rounds and 2 interviews

The worst thing is that I connected 100+ employees for referral in the same company for internal posting and project allocation got no help, I was applying for jobs in other companies (600+ applications) from last 3 months with resume of ATS score 85-90 but no good luck there, given 2 defence exam and got chance for ssb but was out on day 1.

I am tired

I want answers and help

Software engineer in product based company need advice on career.

I’ve been meaning to ask someone about my situation so decided to post here.
I work in a good product based company in Bangalore with 40LPA package. Very good company , very good salary and perks , ok ok colleagues, little partiality management but I think it’s same everywhere.
The real problem is the work. For the past 1 year I’m doing the same repetitive work I’m not learning anything new. I’ve been in This company for 5 years now. There is some dependency on me on this role and we are short staffed so there is no fear of layoffs. I’m constantly learning things in YouTube and other places to stay updated.

I’m thinking to switch to learn new things but I fear I won’t get this type of work life balance which I have is absolutely crazy I max work for 2 hrs per day bcz all my work is fast tracked from cursor and co pilot and there is absolutely no one to micro manage because my reporting manager is in the on-site and we connect once a week for updates.

Would you switch this job for something more learning and also salary or would you stay in same?

Heading: TCS Lateral Hires (4+ YOE): On-Time Joining or Delays?

Hi everyone! 👋

For those who received offers from TCS as lateral hires with 4+ years of experience, was your joining date honoured as promised, or are you also experiencing delays similar to those reported by freshers?

Please share your offer status, planned joining date, and actual joining date (if you’ve joined). Your insights would be really helpful for others waiting to join!

Thanks in advance! 🙏

Cognizant GenC (4 LPA) vs IBM CIC ASE (4.5 LPA) — Should I accept Cognizant or wait for IBM?

Hi everyone,

I'm a 2026 engineering graduate, and I'm confused about choosing between two job opportunities. I'd really appreciate advice from people who have experience with Cognizant or IBM.

I received my Cognizant GenC offer letter for the Programmer Analyst Trainee role with a 4 LPA package today. I completed three months of training from March to June, and I have only two days to accept the offer.

Meanwhile, I completed IBM's PJP program for the CIC Associate System Engineer role (4.5 LPA) from July to September, but I haven't received any further updates or an offer letter from IBM.

I'm confused about whether I should accept Cognizant's offer or wait for IBM. Has anyone who recently completed IBM PJP received an offer letter? What would you suggest I do in this situation?

How Can I Rebuild My Life and Career After Graduation?

I graduated in 2026 with a B.Tech degree in Computer Science, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to secure a job yet.

I have been living with an autoimmune disease, which affected my health and made it difficult for me to focus on my career and professional development. Because of my health challenges, I couldn't make the progress I had hoped for after graduation.

Thankfully, I'm finally starting to recover, and I hope to be fully well within the next 2–3 months.

Right now, I feel lost and confused about what to do next. I want to rebuild my life, get my career back on track, develop in-demand skills, and eventually secure a good job in the tech industry.

My question is: How do I start over and build a better future from this point?

\- How should I start preparing for a job while I'm recovering?

\- Which technical skills should I focus on as a 2026 graduate?

\- How can I compete with other candidates who have already gained experience?

\- Should I focus on software development, AI/ML, data science, or another field?

\- How can I create a realistic plan for the next 3–6 months to become job-ready?

I'm ready to put in the effort and work on myself. I just need the right direction, a practical roadmap, and some clarity about where to begin.

I don't want my health challenges to define my future. I want to take control of my life, rebuild my confidence, and establish a successful career, starting from where I am today.

Final Year B.Tech IT Student Preparing for MNC Placement Assessments – Need Guidance on Bridging My Technical Gaps!

Hey everyone,

I am currently in my final year of B.Tech IT and preparing for MNC campus/off-campus placement drives. While I have a foundational base, I feel like I am lagging behind in a few critical areas needed to clear online assessments (OAs) and technical rounds.

Current Tech Stack & Skills:

  • Primary Language: Java (Core Syntax, Data Structures & Algorithms)
  • Focus Areas: Relational Databases (SQL), Cloud Fundamentals, and Core CS Fundamentals.
  • Projects: Built full-stack applications and cloud-focused projects.

Where I Need Help / Where I'm Lagging:

  1. Online Assessment (OA) Patterns: How should I structure my preparation to crack time-bound coding & aptitude tests for major MNCs?
  2. Technical Interview Depth: How can I transition from writing code that works to writing optimized solutions under pressure?
  3. Preparation Strategy: How do I balance project work, DSA practice, and core IT concepts with ongoing campus drives?

If you were in my shoes during your final year, what step-by-step strategy or resources would you recommend to guarantee readiness for MNC assessments?

Thanks in advance for your insights!

Got placed, but need help figuring out a few things

Currently in my 7th sem and got placed at PwC as a Tech Consultant (7+ 2 IPA).

Had a couple of things on my mind and wanted to hear from people who've been in a similar situation.

  1. How good is 7 + 2 IPA LPA for a fresher?

A few people from college have landed packages around 16 LPA CTC, so naturally, the comparison game has begun.

How does the growth and exit opportunity look after 2-3 years at PwC, especially if I eventually want to move into more technical roles?

  1. Mumbai vs Pune - where should I choose if I get the option?

I live in Navi Mumbai, so choosing Mumbai would mean staying at home and saving a decent amount of money.

On the other hand, I have a few close relatives and friends in Pune, and I've always wanted to experience living away from home. Pune seems like a good place to do that, but with this package, I'm wondering whether moving out would make financial sense.

Would the independence and overall experience of living in Pune be worth the extra expenses, or would staying in Mumbai, saving money, and building a financial cushion be the smarter move?

  1. A few questions for people who've been through this - how much does the first job's package really matter in the long run?

Need Guidance to switch from EDA domain to backend engineering/data engineering

Hi Reddit community,

I am a 2025 grad currently working in a top EDA company (in one of synopsys,Cadence, siemens EDA) as a Software Engineer 1 .

Total Year of experience is 1 year 3 months.

Here my tech stack is C++ .

To be very honest I am not happy with what I am doing here. I really want to switch to backend roles.

I have started preparing a month ago and planning to make a switch in the first quarter of 2027 . I have applied to a lot of companies but not getting enough calls due to my c++ tech stack.

Also I have internship experience in data engineering so I am also open to DE.

My dsa is already good (LC guardian with 2000+ problem solved)

Apart from DSA, LLD and HLD what else I need to prep?

How hard it is to switch from EDA to backend roles?

Career suggestionssss

I'm from tier 1 NIT non circuital branch. Some stuff at college happened, and I ended with 8lpa sde job. That is completely because of college placements policy faults. I didn't get a chance to prove myself.

Coming to point, I'm unsure what to do now.

  1. Try off campus(i applied like 200 jobs, no response)

  2. prepare for gate cse(i didn't particularly prepare for gate, but I am able to score 30-40 in practice test, since ik dsa and cs fundamentals)

  3. join the lowball offer and try to switch asap

(If I want to do mtech cse, I don't to do mtech in nit again, I want to do in iit)

Please guide me in these decisions, I have fried my life enough with no guidance :(

Does preparing for IT jobs in india makes sense now?

I am a btech 3rd year student, studying in a tier 3 college in india. Currently my skills are - good command in DSA, python libraries like numpy, pandas, matplotlib, seaborn, scikit learn, pytorch, and make an end to end ML project too. So basically I am in Machine Learning and DSA.

My concern is I only have 1.5 years remaining now so should I put this time in enhancing my skills in this field or should I prepare for masters (GATE) or something else. I don't wanna ruin my time being confused or being preparing in the wrong direction. Because the IT job market is so risky nowadays because of AI.

I am too afraid for my future and can't find the direction.

21, final-year CS student, freelance motion designer (~$5k last year), no clients lately and no campus placements. Dev job, editing job, or keep freelancing?

I’m 21 and in the final year of my CS degree (graduating 2027). My college has no campus placements, so I’ll have to find work on my own.

For the past year I’ve freelanced as a motion designer for international SaaS clients (explainers, product demos). I made around $5,000 last year, but for the past few months I’ve had almost no new clients despite actively reaching out. I also bought a new PC in June, so the pressure is real.

My other background is web development (Next.js, TypeScript, Supabase, Python/Django), but I haven’t coded seriously for about a year. I’m now building a small app for a local tailor while trying to keep freelancing going, and I’m burning out. My sleep is bad, my focus and memory are suffering, and I feel stuck.

I have no industry experience in either field, and my motion design isn’t at big-company level yet. I’m also wondering whether I should just take a regular video editing job for stable income.

I’d love advice on:

  1. Which path is more realistic for a first job without campus placement: software, motion design, or video editing?
  2. Is an editing job a smart bridge for income, or does it just trap you in low pay?
  3. If you freelance for international clients, what got you your first consistent ones?
  4. Should I focus on one skill or keep several going?
  5. Is it already too late for me to be deciding my direction, given I graduate next year with no experience?
  6. How did you get out of a slump like this?

I’m happy to share my portfolio and outreach messages in the comments.
