AdviceRequest Corgi …

Genuine Question… Is it normal for MOST CORGIS to bark at the vacuum or any large machinery. I know they’re mainly for herding which is normal. I just want to see if any other corgi’s bark at their vacuums. Because I know mine 100% does and attempts to demolish that thing!! He’s sooooo cute

I wasn’t going to share this until we had talked to the ortho surgeon tomorrow but this feels like it’ll help me process by writing this out & seeing if anyone has gone through similar. Power in community & prayer is real.🙏🏽

Cooper escaped our yard for approximately 5-10 minutes late this morning. He was hit by a fed ex truck in front of our house. He has three broken legs (1-tibia & fibula 2-metatarsals 3-radius). One requires surgeries & the other long term casts & healing. He would need to be contained during this time & if you have herding dogs you know how difficult that might be to do. Has anyone dealt with similar? If not, I’d just appreciate prayers for my boy. And for us to make the best choices for him. My heart is broken. He’s my first baby & we got him 9 years ago tomorrow morning.😭💔

This was my post on FB. I’d love the above questions answered if you’ve been through this. What would you do? It’s day 2 and he’s been pretty good until this evening when he’s started to whine more & try and get up. He’s on Gab. Every 8 hours and Tram. Every 4 hours for pain rn. Any other advice? Words of wisdom? What do I do? He’s my first baby.

AdviceRequest Okay! We need help, big time!

We have a 6 months old corgi who is very sweet & cute & adorbs & well-behaved BUT! We are sleep deprived & have 2 problems:

  1. He wakes up at 5:30 am every single day. Since past 2 weeks, this guy wakes up at 5:30am. We live in an apartment, so we cannot let him bark. His ideal sched used to be like, 7am - wake up 7:10am - breakfast 8:15am - walk/pee/poop 8:40am - sleep 11am - walk/pee/poop 12pm - lunch 1pm- sleep 4pm - walk/pee/poop 5pm - sleep 6pm - dinner 7pm - walk/pee/poop (Then he just will not sleep cuz of what if they’re doing something fun) 9pm - walk/pee/poop 9:30pm or 10:30pm- sleep

Okay, so here he gets 2 big 30 min walk during the day and during his wake time he gets ample of mental stimulation.

We have checked if there’s some noise coming at 5:30am due to which he wakes up but there’s none. Once, he wakes up in the morning he is not in any hurry to go downstairs to relieve himself. After we come back upstairs, he’ll chill & I give him his collagen stick. Otherwise he barks & we can’t afford that bc we live in an apartment and have already received a noise complaint. So we can’t afford clearly not let him bark.

  1. How to make him love his crate? He sleeps in his crate at night without any problem, he walks in there and sleep but during the daytime, nope! He has a spot that we call “place” he’ll sleep there very peacefully but mind you not the crate cuz how can he do what we ask him to do! We feed every meal in the crate. He gets lick mats & kongs in there as well.

We are also late for separation training bc we had no idea that it was this important & us being stupid first time pawrents completely missed on that. Any suggestions on that are welcomed too!

Please help us. We are going crazy & are heavily sleep deprived.

AdviceRequest Baby teeth haven’t fallen out?

Post image

This is my first puppy, he just turned 6 months old at the end of January. I noticed today that he has double canines… I realize that maybe I haven’t given him enough hard chew toys? I’ve been worried that they were too hard because I was told that he could break a tooth. I guess I have worried too much! 😅 is there any way that the baby teeth could still fall out if given harder chews?

AdviceRequest Advice needed: taking in family members corgi

My grandparents can’t take care of their corgi and I’m the only one who can take her. It’s pretty sudden, another family member visited and realized my grandmas memory has gotten drastically worse and the dog wasn’t being cared for(grandpa is unable to due to mobility). I’ve had other dogs before but never a corgi or any smaller breed. I’m kind of frantically researching because I’m going to get her in a week.

I know their hips and back often have issues, so I’ll be watching out for that. Grandparents have some things I will be taking as well like steps for couches and the bed. She’s about 10 years old and she has met my current dog(Aussie), they get along great.

If anyone has any general advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: Thank you everyone! I have a list of things to look up and buy. Baby gates for stairs are being picked up tomorrow and I will be making her a ramp to get safely down the back steps. My aunt(who is currently taking care of her) sent me the vet paperwork and it looks like she’s a bit overweight, most likely due to my grandmother double feeding after forgetting she did, so she will be put on a diet soon!

Hi! Reposting here just in case any corgi owners have seen this before. Corgi has been scratching ear to the point of bleeding. Went to vet a month ago and they said ear was just dirty, gave us medicine and sent us home. Medicine ran out but we cannot afford vet right now. Any at home remedies/suggestions?

AdviceRequest Corgi dog coat sizing?

So I'm measuring my dogs to get new coats for the winter and I can't for the life of me find one to fit my corgi. He's around 40lb (gets three big walks a week, eats only 1/2 cup of food twice a day, roughhouses with sister every day. He's just a tank.) his neck and back are fine, I just struggle with the chest and his short stumpers. An XL he can get his legs caught in if he tries to run and L I feel is a little too tight. Are there any brands you guys recommend?

**Not a bot, just an owner who would like to protect her corgi's stomach through snow and mud

AdviceRequest Question about my corgi

Hey I’m not really sure where to post this to get a good answer but my corgi is very affectionate and loves getting their head and neck scratched but recently she started doing this behavior where after pets she’ll turn around and rub her nose into whatever surface we’re on, is she just excited or is there a problem with her nose? Video included of course <3

AdviceRequest First time corgi owner need help

Hello guys, need some serious help here. I am in Cambodia, sihanouville to be exact. With recent crackdown of the illicit activites, many chinese were sent back and there are alot of pets left on streets. Some got along, but some are attacked by the strays. Even so, raised as home pets by previous owner, they werent cut out for the dirty streets here.
One of it was a corgi, probably a year old (figured out when i walked him and the neighbours told me). Took him to vet and also for vacinnation just in case he wasnt vacinated, he was traumatised by the dogs and had a small bite to his right leg. long story short, boy is now recovering well but is acting weird. didnt eat at first, i figured it was because of the new environment. we got many different treats and kibbles and a few of them work. some bites here and there.

a weekish things became better, managed to get his trust with shower and stuff, he come up my bed and sleep by my leg and also started finishing his food. 1-2 weeks passed, he started spitting out kibbles, even bring them to my bed and spit beside me and i swear he blow his nose (hmpm!). First thought was okkay change food, (he had no dental or medical issue - confirmed with vet and he also bites apple and jerky when he feels like it). It stresses me out.

I then tried the 20min trick where you leave the food there and taake it if he doesnt eat and he literally roll eyes and snort (before we go on walks, or when he walk pass the food bowl). First time, he held for 12 hours and he caved. The next time 24 hours and i couldnt bring myself to drag it longer.
I started buying chicken breast, same cycle repeat. love it, then totally spit it out. its the 4th day.

I had 3 dogs before back at home, but there were all miniature (chihuahua, yorkshire). never had such issues. I started reading, google was bs and i found some threads on reddit and spent earlier reading through (im new here!) before realising its a common trait among corgi. He went from a frightened dog to a confident one and pretty overbearing. i tried coaxing, ignoring, sitting there for almost 90 mins once being patient through), mixing pumpkin puree, cucumber, carrot, beef.
I am literally almost preparing to check out another order of gizzard, livers before i decided to just create my first ask here.

For what its worth, i think its really cute but i really need some advice. I mean I can rotate the food, but is there a better alternative?
Also, he gets really really upset after he finish eating with the snorting and sighing and eyes roll, then when i get stern with him, he will come over and lay on my leg, the mindscrewing part is when i pet him and he suddenly went from seeming afraid to ok then he turn his back on me, i caught him at least thrice, walking away and snort his nose.

Im really confused?? like does he hate me and just want to appease me?? should i be firm?? will it scare him given his past? Also, his previous owner probably spoiled/raised him wrong because he is pretty overweight so the portion im giving now is controlled so im worried he is not getting enough but its for obvious reasons since this is a corgi chat.

We seem to be in this ongoing hot and cold war idk how to manage. I don't even know what am I asking from this but i think i need to know whether am i overthinking when i feel he does it intentionally most days (though google says no, and dog doesnt have the manupulative trait).
And what should I do? im pretty sure when i give him his meal later, it won't be touched.

AdviceRequest Corgi jealousy

I have an African grey parrot and a corgi. At night time we bring the parrot into the bedroom w us and put him on a large perch next to the bed. Eventually the parrot will flutter over to my side of the bed for his nightly head scratches.

The Corgi goes crazy; running from side to side and whining. Is this jealousy or is he disturbed by the wing flutter or all the above?

This is Winston! He's gonna be 1y in August! We got a gazebo installed in our backyard last week and since, he is hiding under the stairs! Anyone had similar experience with a corgi? How to let him know the gazebo is not going to harm him?.. Of course we tried with treats... As soon as he knows there is no more treats he runs straight back to his spot under the stairs.. or go at the bottom of the stairs like in the picture, and just look at us like he's asking us to please go back inside! he will comes to sit on the patio chairs with us, but never stay for long.. he is usually always by our side except now that we installed the gazebo.. also there is a wild turkey roaming in the neighborhood.. he seems scared (as it's at least 3 times bigger than him lol) of it but it never was an issue before so I'm not sure that is what he is hiding from... Since we have the gazebo, he also don't want to go outside in the morning, kind of have to force him to go! Will he come out of there with time? I want to know if someone had same kind of issue, and did it fixed with time? Also to mention we have another dog, a big malamute and samoyed mix... and she will protect him against the turkey if by any chance it would come in my yard.. the turkey usually just pass in my neighbor's yard and mind it's own business.. not like it attacked my dog or anything... So I don't think the turkey is the issue here!

AdviceRequest What does this licking indicate?

Shes been doing this more often. She doesn’t appear to be in pain. No limping, no whimpering, no obvious signs of distress. She loves running on the beach. But i catch her licking both her front paws and there are two red dots on her front paws. One dot per paw. And I don’t know what to make of it. Anyone seen this behavior or the dots on the paws and have answers for it?

AdviceRequest Corgi insurance recommendations?

Post image

We’re looking to get pet insurance for Trudy, and see a ton of different options at wildly different prices. Had anyone had a particularly good experience with a carrier? Especially with DM/ other common corgi issues as they get older.

She also always eats trash and plastic off the floor so you never know 🤦‍♀️

AdviceRequest Are GI issues common with corgis?

Post image
161 Upvotes

I've had my little Peaches since August of last year and she's at 8 months old. We've swapped her food over 2 (now 3 per vet recommendation) times and have had to put her on a bland diet every couple of months due to loose stool. We make sure she doesn't eat anything weird or unusual in the house, but for some reason she keeps having these issues.

She is on Royal Canin GI food right now but I was just curious if anyone else with corgis have gone through this and if so, what issues do you think have caused this and what food recommendations do you have once she reaches 12 months? Any help is much appreciated. I feel so bad that she has upset tummies 😭💖

Here is her cute face for reference!

AdviceRequest My corgi whines a lot…

So my 6 months old lil baby boy whines a lot but why I don’t know. He eats sleeps plays very normally. But when it’s time to sleep or calm down, he starts whining and making weird noises. Is it normal? I’m just afraid that I’m not ignoring something wrong happening to him. Is it normal or it’s just normal behavior? Tia :)

AdviceRequest Corgi started sleeping alone?

Hello guys,

My corgi is now 5 months old. We took her when she was 3 months old and the first week she slept on her bed next to ours but after that she wanted to be on the bed with us...and we let her...because yeah I can't resist haha But a few days ago she started wanting to come of the bed and sleep again on her own. Is that normal? Shoud I be worrying that I am doing something wrong?

AdviceRequest How do I get my corgi to stop jumping on everything?

My corgi, Miso, is going on about 2 years old now. We got him for free when some farmer gave him away. He was about a year or so then. Since we’ve had him, he loves to jump up on and off my bed and I don’t know how to get him to stop. He jumps up on my bed unexpectedly and jumps off unexpectedly too. I’ll try and catch him and place him down correctly, but by the time i recognize it, he’s already jumped off. I could get him a staircase but my house is small, and it would cover my entire doorway. Is there a way to get him to give me a paw or a bark or anything to let me know he wants to be on my bed? Thanks!
