If the government provides no services then it shouldn’t exist.

It provides rules/laws, and a military.

So only the ability to hurt and kill matters? I can handle all that myself. We do have the 2nd amendment.

When you look at the basic function and purpose of government, ii’s only goal is protection of the territory, and setting laws to govern the masses. Nothing in it says the laws had to be fair. Nothing says it has to take care of you.
So you argue that taking care of the citizens is in the best interests of the government. That is a fair claim but the issue is at what point is the individual expected to take care of themselves?

Where did you get the idea that the only function of government is law/order and defense? Did they forget to tell all the government that ever existed because none of them does only that. If a government doesn’t do the other stuff then their economy doesn’t grow as fast as the governments that do and those governments will outcompete theirs and conquer theirs. The law of nature is you do what you need to do to survive, everything else is BS.

Someone never read classical government philosophy

I have read Loche, Plato, and Smith. I have read others but barely remember their names or their philosophies. Other than right wingers who don’t like paying taxes but like abusing people, I have never heard the idea that government shouldn’t do anything other that abuse it’s power and attack other countries.

The whole idea of government was to protect the land and the citizens within it through a military and laws. Nothing said the laws had to be just, or that the citizens had to be educated and fed by the government. Does it keep them from rioting, yes, but during a siege, if the enemy gets you, you’re dead or slave so that helped keep the rioting down a bit.
Everything was to keep the citizens in line and protect the lands from invaders. Safety is always first in the hierarchy of need.

I'll take that over Trump throwing US cities to the dogs and openly hoping for US casualties.

He's supposed to represent the people, all the people. He doesn't and won't. We needed a change yesterday. Maga doesn't work and never will.

What dogs are you talking about? He is representing all of the AMERICAN people. We know that the libs are out there protecting their voting fanbase, the Lindsay Clancy supporters and illegals. Everyone in your party sat when Trump asked all to stand if they agreed that the government's primary duty is to protect American citizens rather than undocumented immigrants.
