File / URL Check Trying to download BF2, should I be concerned?

https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/4b0684771db3f43a7b8383d22b4903386ed4fb80aa8c3e39d0a85da88197e0e2/detection

Hi,

I've been a longtime fan of a YouTube channel that posts Battlefield 2 gameplay, and have been interested in playing the game myself.

I've gotten a link to an installer of the game that downloads it and generates a key (Since the game has been delisted by EA for a long time now).

I've made sure that the link to the install is legit by the people that run the revival project (BF2Hub\[.\]com).

Scanning the Unzipped setup file using Windows Defender showed no threat, but out of curiosity I checked Virus Total.

The report link is added. I'm not sure if 2/71 is a cause for concern, as the big names such as Kaspersky and what not - didn't detect anything odd.

I scanned the setup executable itself, as the whole folder is 3.9gb.

Haven't run it yet, would love some insight.

Thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to answer.

I can't tell you about piracy, and I won't but all I'm gonna say is.

Don't pirate stuff, if you don't know what you're doing, its not worth risking your data and passwords.

Oh I know, but those clowns at EA delisted this game a while ago, so when I heard there's a community restoration project I got interested. Last time I tried to pirate something was like 16 years ago haha, but that's because I was a kid and didn't know any better.

All I'm gonna say is, ask before you try going the risky route, its best to ask before you download suspicious files.

Hello, I'm not saying my real name but i'm Leather-Chart7083, I am an independent cybersecurity researcher (Emphasis on independent) and student.

Based on the detections, relations and behavior there is no explicit evidence this file contains a trojan horse, there are some things that looked suspicious but after an examination it looks like it's benign. That there's no evidence doesn't mean it doesn't contain anything fruity, but it doesn't seem like a threatening file. At least this setup.exe file.

The 2 detections are potentially a false positive, it's also very few detections to corroborate if it is a malware or not, big cybersecurity vendors don't flag this file neither, it doesn't mean much by itself tho.

Jiangmin is also recognized for its high false positive rate for launchers, games, cracks, etc.

So, in conclusion: The file doesn't appear to be malicious, you might need to check other files but this one doesn't show clear evidence of suspicious behavior.
