My friend’s brother rented a car in Chennai for a day, and unfortunately, they got into an accident. An auto suddenly crossed their lane, and the car hit the auto.
They went to the police station, but the police blamed the car though the auto was at fault because the auto was hit from behind by the front of the car. Also, since everyone involved was pretty young, around 22, they really put the blame on them.
The bigger issue is that the rental car apparently doesn’t have active insurance.
We spoke to the person who rented the car to them, and he said the damaged parts don’t have to be replaced with original parts and can just be changed/repaired with other after market parts. He also said the car actually belongs to someone else and he isn’t the owner.
We’re not really sure what the best option is now.
Should we take the car to the company service centre, or would a good outside garage be better?
Also, roughly how much more would it cost at the showroom compared to an outside garage?Trying to figure out the best way to handle this situation.

Also, they still have the bike of the person who rented the car. They told to take the bike once car repairs have been done.

Adambakkam: From St Thomas Mount railway station entrance, on the road towards HDFC Bank. Daily, around 12 pm.

Koyambedu: Vijayakanth Mandapam. Morning, probably daily (not confirmed). People queue outside.

ECR: Meals of Love by Arun (Casagrande). Meals, weekdays, afternoon.

T Nagar: North Usman Road flyover, near T Nagar bus stand, opposite Pothys Hyper. Also near Legend Saravana Stores, opposite Chalani Jewellers. Lunch, Mon to Fri, 11 to 11:30 am.

T Nagar: Under the bridge near Chalani Jewellery, opposite Akshaya Thanga Mahal (earlier Kalyan Jewellery). Variety rice and chips, Saturday lunch. There’s a queue.

George Town: A mandapam on Coral Merchant Street. Pongal, Saturday morning.

Mannady / Stanley: Biryani on Thursdays, after 12:30 pm. A biker roams around the area, so there’s no fixed spot.

Vandalur: Possibly near the bus stop (not confirmed).

Perambur: Opposite the girls’ Presidency school. From 12:30 pm onwards, days not known.

so today me and my bf went to forum mall, we were sitting in the starbucks there and we were jus listening to music and he had his arm around me and like after a while I am jus hearing this aunty shouting at the starbucks barista saying "this is a public place" and then the barista comes to us saying yk that people are complaining. me and my bf were totally shocked because he only had his arm around me and it was crazy so after a while we left and I came back and asked that barista what happened like did we do something wrong.

By now, some of you might remember me as the local ‘astro dude’ with a telescope, who occasionally posts pictures of things up above. While that’s kinda true, I’m also a (relatively new) member of the Chennai Astronomy Club that has several astronomers much more experienced/knowledgeable than I. I was talking to one of the organisers during our most recent star party, and we were wondering if people of this sub would be interested in a star party of their own on a weekend night. Since I started posting here, I’ve had a few Redditors reach out to me on DM with various astro-related questions, hence the proposal.

The plan is, we meet at a pre-arranged place slightly outside city limits to try to avoid the extreme urban light pollution. We’d have to book a night’s stay at a resort/AirBnb or something like that, and the cost would be evenly split amongst all the attendees (usually comes to ~1200-1500/person). We already have a couple of places that we usually book for such meet-ups.

The astro gear (telescopes, binoculars, related accessories) would be brought by the Club members. There’s no requirement/criterion/age range/expected knowledge or skill level for joining, as the experienced people will explain all the stuff from how to use the equipment to how to spot things in the sky, and everything in between.

If something like this interests you and you think you’d definitely attend an event if one was organised, please drop a comment below mentioning the number of people that would commit to attend, and any other questions you might have. At this moment, we’re just trying to figure out possible numbers, to see if this would be a viable project to arrange.
