Medical Questions Is this normal(first time cat owner)
Only on this paw and looks bruised? additional cat photo for reference

u/_anxious_witch94 27d ago edited 27d ago
Yes, totally normal! It’s just pigment, not a bruise. My cat used to have all different markings on each paw!
Edit: thank you all for the awards!

Do not taste the beans. They touch the dirty sandbox.

Oh sweet summer child. If there's a cat in your home I promise you, there are cat shit sprinkles on literally every surface.
You ever kissed a cat on the head? Cat poop infusion. Every time.

But but... HOW would they lick their own head 🤔
12
u/fondledbydolphins 27d ago
First lick your butt.
Then lick your paw.
Then massage your head and forehead with your licked paw.9
u/MalPlayz2005 27d ago
Ah yes forgot cats can practically turn into pretzels just to clean their fur xD

My black and white has all white fur on his feet, so you'd think he would have all pink beans but he has one foot with black beans

I had a cat like that once. All white with just a couple black blotches on his back, but for some reason ONLY black pads. Always wondered what determines that relative to the fur colors.

Totally normal. My dog has mixed colors on his paw pads and his front toenails are black while his back ones are white with little white toe tips like socks.
He's so stinking cute I can't stand it

I assume cats are inteligent so take this with a grain of salt
Your cat must’ve been like “wtf are you doing, dumbass”
Even in the pic she looks like she assumes she’s the smartest being in the room, looking all proud and well cared for
6
u/Mammoth-Evidence-500 27d ago
😂 to be fair she did have some other gunk around her nose, but definitely thought I was overstepping regardless.
She was monitoring me closely in this picture because I had just returned from a multi day work trip… so pretty sure she believed my dumbass got lost and required supervision.

This is how I learned my orange tiger had a totally freckled mouth. I thought she had food stuck to her little jowls 😆

u/Lou_C_Fer 27d ago
It's wild how it develops as they age. Neither of my orange cats had any black on their mouths when they were kittens, but they both have black spots. Plus, those spots keep growing.

Cute yes, but unfortunately a breed with lots of health problems. So, cuteness for humans for the price of a life full of pain for the cat. Bad trade.

u/BuyingStuffIShouIdnt 27d ago
I’m not on other social media, but it was crazy to watch the transition on here from shunning Munchkin breeding to tacitly promoting it. I see Munchkins hit r/all on the various “cute” subs (including this one) with no signs of mod stickying any comments about it’s horrible to support these breeders. So I view a supposed sub that cares about cats as complicit every time one of these posts hits the front page.
At least we’re past the early years of every one of the owners suspiciously claiming they “adopted” it.

u/Kuneria 27d ago
I know... leave it to the first time cat owner to pick an inhumane breed. Still a cute kitten! But the sensationalization of munchkin cats are really filling homes with cats with spinal and joint issues and a world of health problems when there are thousands of perfectly healthy cats in shelters.

What’s not normal is how cute this little kitty is!
52
u/moreKEYTAR 27d ago edited 27d ago
That is correct, it is not normal. It is a munchkin cat, bred for cuteness and given health problems as a result. I don’t know OP’s story so I won’t judge, but please don’t praise or encourage the breading of munchkin cats.
Edit: Oops. Leaving the typo as is

Yes the paw coloration is normal. However, it looks like the cat may be a munchkin cat. Munchkin cats have a lot of issues (allegedly, I've just heard through the grapevine) and are generally seen as a bad thing to perpetuate. Make sure you get your cat fixed!
I'll also get ahead of it, cats have nipples. A lot of posts ask if they're normal, they are.

if it seems like it hurts to touch, it may be a bruise! if not, it’s just a spot of different colored toe bean just like what happens in their fur :)

Does it seem painful when you touch/manipulate it? It looks like a regular pigment difference to me but it could possibly be bruising like you said.
Since Kitty has some gray spots I would bet on it just being a patch of darker pigmentation.

u/omnipotent87 27d ago
Its just pigmentation. If there was fur there it would be gray, and the pink portion would be white. Her skin will be patchy in the same pattern as her fur colors.

u/randomcman 27d ago
I’m afraid it’s terminal. Got about 30 years to live at most. Give the kitty extra treats to ease the suffering until then
5
u/KeysmashKhajiit Russian Blue 27d ago
It's very possible that it's just pigment on the paw pad, especially if your cat has a coat like that.
But it's good to note if kitty's gait changes at all anyway. Stuff like limping or favoring will be info to give to your vet.

u/Vanesti 27d ago
Pinto beans are normal. Also if you find a bump on their belly look for more; It's probably just a nipple. (We see a lot of nipple identification questions.) Lol

Is what normal!? The fact that u have one of the cutest kittens I've ever seen!?
5
3
u/Suspicious_Dingo_426 27d ago
Perfectly normal. A cat's skin color (including the beans) will be pigmented based on their fur color. Cats with black or grey fur will have dark skin in the areas that are that color. Orange or white cats will have pink skin. Cats with mixed fur colors will have mixed skin colors.
3
u/creek-hopper 27d ago
That is just pigmentation. For instance, have you noticed how the gums or the roof of the mouth of dogs and cats will often have a combination of pink and brown colors? Same thing can happen to paw pads. It is not a bruise.

Is it normal for kitty's paws beans being so friggin cute you want to chew on them!? NOM NOM NOM NOM nom nom. (ok don't put cat's paws in your mouth, gross) Pro tip!: Apologize to kitty constantly. I don't know why it works but I'm convinced. My kid told me I have to apologize, and once I started listening and apologizing kitties love you more. It doesn't need to make sense and you don't have to believe me, just do it. Scoop up kitty and squeeeeze!
3
u/Ranger_1981 27d ago
Yes, their skin can have all kinds of different color variants and that is completely normal. But at the first vet visit ask any questions you have. It's sweet you care so much to ask. Good luck with your new kitten.
3
u/GloInTheDarkUnicorn 27d ago
Cats can have spots and markings on their skin, including paw pads and noses. My orange cat’s nose is 2/3 pink and 1/3 orange.

Couple more things to note:
Those "lumps" on your kittens belly are nipples. Their fur is supposed to be sparse in front of the ears, it's their main pheromone release area. That pad and claw half way up their leg is their thumb. And yes, your kitty is the greatest kitty to ever exist.
