Anyone have any idea what this is on this cats lip/mouth? Saw this cat while walking around and zoomed in because something looked off from a distance.
My cat ate a bee a few summers ago and we got a little nervous and took her to the vet, but yeah they told us it will typically go down on its own in a week or two if i remember right.
As long as they’re still acting the same/eating/playing/sleeping like normal, they will be fine (and hopefully learned their lesson and won’t do it again lmao)
This happened to my cat once, and he was fine after a day. His swelling wasn't this bad, though. It also happened to me! A wasp got into my bed when I was 12 and stung my chin and the back of my hand. The swelling lasted almost a week.
He's actually good now, antibiotics worked fine without anti venom. I had to take him back to the vet 3 times, the last visit they had to do surgery and remove a bunch of dead tissue. This is a photo about a week afterwards (it drained a bunch and then a week later it swole up again like the cat in ops post
Yeah, my vet said it would have been much worse if it was a dog, they said that cats can tolerate rattlesnake bites much better than most animals. It almost completely healed now, I'll post a current pick when he comes back inside later, I just started letting him back outside this morning.
I live in a very rural area and grew up here, I have lost a furry friend from a rattler before. I was very worried for him the third time I had to take him back to vet because it flared back up really bad. But my kittys are our family members so I will take him to the vet as many times as it takes for him to get better because that's what I would do if it was my child or any other family member. Rattlesnakes have been really bad here this year in California.
Same here. Vet said we could remove his lower jaw but I couldn’t put him through that. He deserved to die with dignity. I loved him more than I have loved most people.
Same... It was a horrible experience. The vet told me that it only really happens to cats over 7 years old. She had just turned 7.. Her brother was so sad for months, he didnt want to go out, didn't eat much or play. We bought a beautiful Siamese kitten and after a few weeks he was much happier.
Could also be a gnarly plastic allergy. I’ve had to ban all plastic from my house because my cat licks it for the tingles and ends up insanely swollen.
I think it's because when you click on the 'comments' button on the reddit app it skips the text description entirely, so a lot of people don't even know there were any additional details provided.
Something similar happened to my late cat, it was a cyst. The vet had us apply a warm compress every day until it popped and left his chin a big bloody crater :(
Vets arent always an option for us even it's the best answer. My local vet doesn't do any walkins and if you have an emergency, they usually send you to another state (which is about 45 minutes away). They also have ridiculous wait times because theyre the only one in the area. So, if i called on monday, Wednesday late afternoon would be the soonest. By that time, thw worst, has passed.
This all comes from a recent experience where we lost several cats to a mystery illness.
If it's a sting, yes, he will probably be fine. If it's an abscess, he needs medical attention. My cat had one and it had to be lanced and drained and he needed an injection of antibiotics.
Best case, sting/bite and it'll be fine (maybe give the cat some Benadryl to help with the swelling), worst case, infection or tumor which needs medical attention.
The more interesting thing here is that this cat is inside a house, and the photo has clearly been taken from outside through a glass window, you can see the reflections. OP has also said it isn’t their cat.
So the more interesting question is: why are you creeping up to a stranger’s house and taking pictures through their windows?
My cat had a very similar growth that slowly kept getting bigger. We did a biopsy and it was cancerous (sarcoma I believe). She had surgery to remove as much as they could, but they were unable to get it all and it came back with a vengeance. She was a still a happy, purring kitty but it just got too big. Eating became so hard for her and we wound up having to put her down.
Hopefully it’s a different prognosis for this baby
Wait I just saw this cat in another sub and someone took him in, he has a tumor and the surgery would be thousands of dollars so the girl is just taking care of him till he passes
Hopefully it’s just a wasp/bee sting and not a growth or cyst. Looks swollen though, so I’m leaning more towards the result of this guy trying to eat a spicy sky raisin.
