Feedback Requested Vanilla Raspberry Cake . First time trying Heart shape & palette knife petals . Was so challenging.
This was a very challenging cake for me as I have never tried a heart shaped cake before, or palette knife flowers . I haven’t even mastered getting smooth buttercream on a round cake yet , don’t know why I thought it’d be a good idea to try a heart cake 😂. Stencilling as well as palette knife flowers , I gave it my best shot . I tried a little stucco , but I don’t think I did enough or did it properly to make it look intentional. Looks like I just messed those bits up. I was trying to go for a rough ( deckled ) top edge , but it just looks messy.
This is a vanilla raspberry cake , raspberry filling and Swiss meringue buttercream.
Any feed back is appreciated on all aspects . Do you think it needs anything extra , such as some gold leaf or more decorative pieces? As it’s just a practice cake it’s not for any particular occasion.
Thank you in advance.

Very pretty and looks delicious! Also, you've got the picture. Enjoy the cake and pull up the picture several months from now...you'll give yourself a big pat on the back. When you've been laboring over it for hours, you start to just see your imperfections and you think everyone else sees them too. The overall picture and presentation is beautiful. It's obvious it was a labor of love!

It's beautiful! I wouldn't add any elements to it. The space really lets each element shine and it feels intentional, calm, and beautiful.

This cake is beautiful. I do not see the flaws you are seeing in this cake and I am a critical caker. I really love this design. You did an excellent job on this.

I think it looks amazing! You did a great job. I’ve also been wanting to do a heart shaped cake, but have been a little hesitant because of the frosting of the cake at the top of the heart lol

I think it turned absolutely beautiful! I would never have known you hadn’t done any of these techniques before. It all looks very intentional. The soft palette of color along with the techniques work perfectly together. ❤️

I love seeing decorators step out of their comfort zones and try new things! That’s a hard technique to master and you’ve done it beautifully. A smooth, chilled, surface is easier to work on because the frosting base moves less, creating a crisp shape with your palette knife. It also makes it easier to remove the flower and do it again if you don’t like it. If the frosting starts to move a bit while you’re working, just pop it back in the fridge for about 15 minutes and then do some more. Congratulations on a successful cake!
