Birthday Cakes Vegetable garden cake
A birthday cake for a colleague - mini savoy cabbages, wombok, pea pods, carrots, beetroots, cauliflowers, one lonely leek (lost interest after one) and yes, eggplants - all of which I made out of sugarpaste.
The cake itself is vanilla cake with Buddha’s hand syrup that I bought from the amazing L'Agrumiste citrus specialist shop in Paris (see last pic for a look at this exquisite store), lemon curd, crushed cashew and smoked salt praline, and chopped up stroopwafels.

I’m in love with your decor here! How long did it take to make the sugarpaste veggies?

Gorgeous! Before I read your caption explaining what flavour of cake it was, I was guessing it was going to be carrot or zucchini cake. What you made sounds better.

I would pay good money for this; it’s a milestone birthday for my dad next year and he loves his greenhouses and vegetable patches! He grows sunflowers too 🌻.

Wow!!!!! Those veggies look amazing!!! Did you have molds for them??? The cauliflower and lettuce/cabbage are insane!!!! ❤️

u/rarerollingobject Jul 29 '26
I made my own molds out of silicone putty - just for the surface of the cauliflower and I made a leaf veiner by first making a silicone putty mold of a real cabbage leaf and then making an inverse mold out of that mold to get the double sided effect when you press sugarpaste between the two molds

The little vegetables would have turned out amazing with marzipan, I forgot the name of the desert

Very cool but that would fuck with my mind because the veges would trick it into expecting a savoury taste. It’d make things interesting

soooo professional looking! the level of detail you put into this cake is astounding… the super smooth sides, the sharp 90 deg edges, the gum paste miniatures, the sophisticated filling flavors. it’s a tour de force for the senses…. smell, sight, taste, texture. very well executed!!!

Absolutely fantastic! That said - I don't think I could eat the vegetables 😂. Too much discrepancy between the looks and taste, they're too realistic, I'm not sure my brains could handle it.

Mad cake skills!!!!
That is just beautiful. The fondant vegetables are amazing.

Stunning. I will point out that the peas looks like genitalia. Perhaps two pea pods next time. The detail work, though, is stunning.

It’s beautiful! How is your frosting so damn smooth? I’ve tried 8 different buttercream and cream cheese recipes and every. single. time. My frosting is never completely smooth.

Tricky to describe; lemon and mandarin with a little grapefruit bitterness? Yuzu in there somewhere too

I’d shed a few tears if a colleague presented something so lovely. It’s stunning!! Insert “cutting onions” joke somewhere, coordinating with the theme. 🧅🥬🍆🥕🍰

This is probably the cutest darn cake I’ve ever seen! I would LOVE to have a cake, or even the decorations with piping instructions to have a cake made for my Dad’s next birthday. He’ll be 79 and has a garden the size of 2 country subdivision lots. He’s a master gardener, to say the least, as YOU are a master cake decorator—Bravo!

This is just beautiful and soo lifelike! How long did this take you?

Man!! I'm imagining this tastes savory like veggie dip and cream cheese layered between different types of breads
