Simple Questions - October 12, 2026
This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post.
Examples of questions suitable for here:
- Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
- I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
- I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50
Important: Downvotes are strongly discouraged in this thread. Sorting by new is strongly encouraged.

I currently have an AMD Ryzen 5700X that I installed in my 2019 AM4 build in 2024. I'm trying to keep this build going to ride out the component shortage with my 64 GB of DDR4 RAM.
Are any of the recent AM4 CPU releases worth purchasing over just keeping my 5700X for 4-5 more years? I don't want to be stuck paying exorbitant prices once AM4 finally is discontinued.

Only the 5800x3d. Probably isn't worth the cost, just stick on your 5700x

Is there a significant enough difference to warrant buying newer, more expensive PSU refreshes over older ones specifically corsair? Context - looking at either HXi 1000W 2023 or HXi 1200w 2025. Both have same PCIe 5 ATX 3.1 platform, 12vhpwr cable (maybe?), platinum efficiency, A+ tier rating, and massive wattage overhead for my 5080 FE (aiming for 1000w for 'future' proofing reasons). So are they basically identical bar the 200w and significant price gap or is there some major difference I missed that justifies going for the 2025 release over the 2023 - maybe something with the gpu cable from the overheating cables?

My GPU fans keep ramping up for like 3 seconds then going quiet again, even when I'm just sitting on the desktop with nothing open. Temps look fine in HWMonitor, mid-30s idle. Already cleaned the dust out and reseated the card. Anyone else dealt with this kind of erratic fan behavior?

Looking at upgrading my GPU before it's "too late" (prices hike up to a point that I can't afford it.) Deciding between four, I think I know what the answer is but I want to run it by people to make sure it's the right call.
A refurb RX 6950 XT for $500 – Bitpower,
A refurb RX 7900 XT for $600 – Bitpower,
A new RX 9070 GRE for $570 – Newegg; and,
A new RX 9070 for $670 – Micro Center
Wanted to try and wait for a $650 RX 9070 (or see if I could snipe that $650 RX 9070 XT that's occasionally been popping up on Woot) but that feels incredibly unlikely and my waiting has already cost me more than I should have let it. I imagine the RX 9070 at $670 makes the most sense, but let me know if there's something I'm not considering.
