Mod post ⚠️ READ BEFORE POSTING!

👋 Welcome to r/Budgies!

Before you share your first post here, please familiarize yourself with this subreddit’s rules. Rule #1 is especially important: this subreddit DOES NOT serve as an alternative to the kind of medical care and advice your budgie can only get from an avian vet. If you have a budgie medical question or concern, talk to your avian vet instead of posting here! Also, be sure to read this subreddit's wiki--odds are very good that your question has an answer in one of the wiki articles! (We usually remove posts that ask about something that's answered somewhere in the wiki to keep the clutter to minimum here.)

Also remember this is a pet budgie subreddit that encourages rescue and adoption and strongly discourages breeding.

👀 If you see something, say something

This is a place to share cute budgie pictures, videos, and stories, but it’s also a place to learn more about budgies. There are many times when someone will post a picture, video, or description, and you might notice something that isn’t best practice for good budgie ownership. It might be a cage that’s getting dirty, or some overgrown toenails, or something like that. Even if that issue isn’t the main reason for the post, please bring that to the attention of the original poster (OP) in a supportive and constructive manner so OP can be made aware of a better way of doing things.

Likewise, OP might consider proactively addressing things in their post that a typical budgie owner might be concerned with if they don’t know all the facts. It might be something as simple as, “Don’t worry, this was before I cleaned their cage” or “I’m taking them to the vet next week for their nail trim.”

🤖 We have AutoMod Summons now!

This is a great way to share information from the Wiki in a very effortless manner, and you are all invited to do so! We used to have just a few summons, but the list has grown enough that we compiled it in this part of the wiki. You should check it out!

Happy budgie-ing!

Lost/Found/Need a New Home [October 06, 2026] - weekly Lost/Found/Need a New Home thread

Use this post to share any budgies that are lost, found, or need a new home!

Some rules:

  1. Only share information you feel comfortable sharing. Example: rather than giving out your full address, maybe only say something like, "I'm in the Springfield area" instead. If someone is interested in knowing more, they can always DM you and you can choose whether or not you want to share any more information.
  2. If you're meeting someone in real life, follow the "Craigslist rule" of meeting in a well-trafficked, public place.
  3. No fees/charges! This is NOT meant to be an advertising platform to sell your budgies. Content that advertises budgies for sale will be removed.
  4. This subreddit does not, in any way, offer warrantees or guarantees of budgie health. A budgie's health status is something that you and the other party should determine with an avian vet, and payment of that avian vet's services is something that you and the other party should decide beforehand.

We encourage you to share pictures! Just make sure they are accurate to the situation and don't break the rules in the sidebar.

Remember: this subreddit is just one of many possible places to make a budgie connection. Also consider FaceBook, Craigslist, Nextdoor, other online communities, as well as real-life bulletin boards in public places. See all the previous weekly posts (that have content) by clicking here.

Our wiki also has a list of parrot rescues you could check out - whether you're looking to adopt a new feathered friend, or have to surrender one due to life circumstances. If one of these rescues is near you, please consider reaching out to them!

Photogenic Onix sports an impressive demeanour alongside his gothic look as an Anthracite budgerigar.

Onix is a very stout looking bird at just 37 days of age. He sports an impressive demeanour alongside his gothic look as an Anthracite budgerigar. I'm liking him a whole lot more than I liked his father Nox at the same age - especially the longer mask.

He'll definitely have a spot on my show team in 2027. Whether he places in the bench or not, I'm sure he'll make me very proud.

His younger siblings don't stand out as much as he does, but I'm pretty stoked about his Mauve sisters.

No one warned me

I got my two budgies about 4 months ago. They're the first birds I've ever owned and I was beyond excited to take them home.

No one warned me about how unbearably cute they would be. No one warned me about how small and adorable they are. No one warned me that they'd be so cute that I wouldn't even care if they used my hands as chew toys. No one warned me about their cute little beaks, their tiny little toes, their funny little tongues. No one warned me about how they use their beaks like hands to help them climb. No one warned me about their beautiful eyes. No one warned me about their soft little bellies. No one warned me about how precious and sweet their constant happy chatter is. No one warned me that they "talk" in their sleep and how it's so cute I could die. No one warned me about how unique their personalities are. No one warned me that I could feel such a deep and pure love for two 50g little birds, and no one warned me that it would happen instantly.

No one warned me and I feel scammed because they've stolen my heart.

I think they are both boys? One is a pretty sky blue and the other is a turquoise color, very bright color. Not sure about blue, but turquoise looks to be male. I'm still trying to come up with names. They're very quiet but I just brought them home yesterday, and they're settling in to new digs and better food!

Thought my baby (Yuki) was a male when i got him, but now i think that "he" might be a "she". Seems like the cere is kinda white. I have a lutino too (Ravi), but it seems more obvious on him that he's a he lol. Also, the one pic of yuki was after drinking and eating so thats whats on his or her beak lol. Also also, pin feathers! Noooo! You can see them on (Sprite). Poor boy. Just got their shower in from amazon today so tomorrow ill give it to them to get the top of their heads wet. They have been trying to groom each other too thankfully. They dont want me to do it lol. Pretty sure this is their 1st molt so i guess that would make them around 4ish months? But back on track. Male or female? 🤣

excuse their messy cage, they're still adjusting to their pellet diet so they still dig through looking for seeds.

but link was able to get a bit of flying in :) i was able to get him to fly even further than this but i wasn't recording.

zelda was able to as well, but only for a little bit, still a bit nervous.

also if anyone has any toy/enrichment ideas for these guys please let me know. i have a lot of hanging toys for them but feel like the bottom is so boring !!

How to entice my 4 Budgies to eat and enjoy chop

Post image
10 Upvotes

No matter what I chop up for Comet, Dazzle, Sparkle and Star I am unable to intrigue their interest in even trying the mixture of finely chopped carrots, celery, small leaves of lettuce and cabbage. However, when I place
sprigs of small celery stalks they are all over it and also rub their back against the celery stalks. What else could I try so they will have a balanced meal of veggies?

We jad our 1st break from wildfire smoke and recebt firest burns in 94 days this weekend, and they were so happy! .

They had the best weekend since Spring's water intrusion then 94 days of wildfire smoke, thanks to 5 major purifiers-Rabbit A3's and Austins! Here's Bobie Bobo and Opie Bird napping.

Opie napped on my finger with head tucked today, and really connected with my Emflish & bird singing today! Hes been through a lot since I got him January 14th.

I think he's fully recovered from the breeder's ID band injury. Yay! Next I equipped a room for prescribed forest burns.
