RJ Mitte (Walt Jr) has passed 😄

Wow, I was shocked to hear this. They are saying it was suicide. So sad. He was only 34 years old. RIP, Flynn ā¤ļø

I'm stunned

He was literally on a podcast just last week, really high spirits talking about Breaking Bad rumors and whatnot...then this news of suicide. Fucking hell man

Some people manage to hide it really well, I can’t imagine what pain he was in

Yeah. My dad killed himself when I was 10, absolutely nobody saw it coming and nobody knew he was struggling.Ā

I would like to remind anyone who's struggling to deal with their problems to speak up, to someone, anyone, because no matter who you are there's somebody around to help.

RIP RJ Mitte, you made a lot of people very happy in your time.

Sorry to hear about your dad , my dad passed in 2024 when I was 25. Ruined my life. How do you feel about him doing that if you don’t mind me asking? I think That’s fucked up to do man if you have kids imo respectfully

That last sentence is unnecessary and not cool at all. I've been there and it's not a choice. Your brain is literally telling you that the best thing for your child is taking yourself out. It's not rational.

My bad, didn’t mean to be disrespectful I’ve experienced losing a parent so that was never my intention

Part of me thinks it was somewhat selfish of him to take his own life and subsequently tear the family apart, but I know him and I know what suicidal thoughts are like, so I understand. Really I just wished he shared what was going on, he had so many friends and so much potential familial support to help him. We still don't really know what was going on that caused him to take his life out of the blue, we never will.

Very true. And also important to note that even though someone is depressed it’s not always this planned kind of thing. He very well could’ve woken up today with no idea that this will be the day.

As awful as depression and suicidal ideation is already, it can take a much darker turn VERY fast. It can be any little thing that is enough to push someone over the edge.

We may never really know the full truth of what happened and the battle RJ was going through in his own head. It’s an awful and tragic reality. We will celebrate the light he brought to this Earth, and we must all use this as a reminder to care for the people who we love and are close to us.

Not uncommon, people can often seem in euphoric high spirits publicly but they’re dying inside.

People who have decided to end things often seem happier and more care free in the days leading up to it. It's because when you've made that decision it gives you a way out of any awkward social interaction, and you finally don't have to worry about all the chores that need doing and that's very freeing.

It’s disturbing and sad. You know you’re on your way out, you wrap things up as best you can, maybe you make some overtures to friends and family, but there’s a sense of calmness in knowing it’s all about to be over.

So paradoxically you seem calm and content, but only because you feel you finally have some semblance of control.

My uncle recently died of cancer. The last time I saw him he was more jovial than ever. The trivial shit he used to complain about constantly just never came up because it didn't matter anymore.

just asking you to reflect on your comment here: if a suicidal person read that making the decision to commit suicide was "very freeing" and they could be "happier and more care free" do you think that could increase the chances that they do it?

u/Beetso 8h ago

Especially if they have already made the decision to do the deed.

Yeah I just saw a post a couple days ago about how he didn’t think Walt jr and the family were doing good after Walt’s death. Not to read too much into it cus I actually agree with him but it feels like he may have been also been speaking about personal experiences :(

Could be "smiling depression" like Robin Williams, externally showing high spirits, inside they might be having a very hard time.

While it’s definitely true that Robin Williams struggled with depression, let’s not forget that Robin Williams killed himself because of his Lewy Body Dementia.

I know you probably didn’t mean it like this, but I think it’s important to make the distinction because Robin Williams seems to be a lot of folks’ example of ā€œjust because someone seems happy on the outside, that doesn’t mean they can’t also be suicidal.ā€

I think Robin did what he did partially out of fear and worry for his family having to deal with someone who would soon become unrecognizable to them as the person they loved. So while we definitely shouldn’t minimize his depression, I also hate that people forget that Robin Williams at the end of his life was going through an entirely new and tragic condition, on top of the one that the Robin they saw smiling and laughing through interviews growing up was going through.

My grandfather had it and declined rapidly, all within a year. He had to be on a locked down ward because he tried to strangle my grandma while she was driving.

Robin Williams didn’t just have depression, he had Lewy body disease that was causing severe paranoia and probably dementia. His symptoms started less than a year before he died, probably a year of absolute physical and mental misery

Atypical Depression.

Was it the podcast with Joe Vulpis? I just watched a few short reels on instagram. He was so happy talking about the scene where Walt Jr meets Saul at the car wash. Im truly in shock right now. I didn’t want to believe the headline when I saw it. So heartbreaking

Lots of rude assholes in the comment sections of the clips I’ve seen from that interview. Hopefully that’s not what pushed him over the edge.
