He goes back, takes out the nazis, takes back his money to stash it again, frees jesse, eats the ricin, allows Skyler to turn him into the police. If skyler gives him up, it will save her ass. The police will gloat that they finally caught the one and only Heisenberg and he will die days later, leaving them with their thumbs up their asses.

nice now we have a plausible reason for Walt to take the ricin

it was obvious when Walt realized that Saul was right and the phone-call he made was not enough to stop Skylar from being Witch-hunted

Considering the fact that Ricin has actually NEVER been used in the series, I actually am starting to realize why it can be Walt's way out. It can acquit Skylar, leave solace with his son who says something to the effect of "why don't you just die" and possibly leave them the money he truly wanted to leave, as a man "who provides, even when it's not appreciated." All the loose ends will be tied

The only issue is that ricin causes kind of a painful death. But maybe he doesn't have access to chemistry supplies to make something better? But then again, if he has access to an M60, he probably has access to anything.

With his cancer he probably is already in constant pain, so that's no issue. Walt may just be too selfish to turn himself in, and Bryan Cranston called the ending "unapologetic" so I don't think here will be redemption for him.

I guess the big pro of ricin is that it's hard to spot in an autopsy, and likely to be mistaken for natural causes. So if pain isn't a concern (and you're right -- it's possible that it isn't), he might be trying to die in a way that doesn't look like suicide for some reason. Interesting!

I can think of two other plausible reasons for Walt to take the ricin. One of the things Walt wants most is to get his son to listen to him, and his imminent death might be the only way to get Walt Jr to listen.

Also, if Walt expects to die soon from cancer, he could be willing to take the ricin if he can get his enemies to take it too. Imagine if Walt imitated Gus by creating a scene similar to the time Gus killed his enemies by the pool. The difference would be that this poison is slow acting, and this time there is no antidote.

You and many. However, it's the first time this person has thought of it.
