Who else saw Season 6 as it was airing?
I personally feel like that was the peak of the Earth. I didn't get to watch Breaking Bad as it was airing, but I jumped on the BrBa/BCS train around the time that BCS Season 3 had wrapped up. I didn't see Season 4 until after it had wrapped up, but I saw Seasons 5 and 6 both as they were airing. I've never had a tv experience that has matched that before or after. I feel like it will never be that good again for media. Everything that comes out nowadays is just ok. There are exceptions such as The Penguin and Invincible, but it's just not the same. Waiting for years for the final season and then it being an absolute 10/10 (for me).

Same here, what an unbelievable journey as well, I was so hyped for every episode

Me too! My little badge of honour. And BB since season 2 as well.

Nice! Dedication right there. I didn't find out about Breaking Bad until right around the series ended.

Same and honestly it was too slow.
Binging BCS is the only way to watch it.

Definitely not. I really enjoyed watching it week to week. Sometimes I would be excited all day to get home and watch the new episode in the evening.

Dude I just teared up seeing this post lol. That period was truly peak. Felt like the show was your closest friend for those 5-ish months. Even on a personal level, life hasnāt been the same since unfortunately:/

Yeah I agree. It was like the show was your closest friend at that time. It was so great. It was like being in another world/dimension watching the show. Now that itās gone it really is sad. At least we can rewatch. Though a rewatch just doesnāt quite hit the sameā¦

A rewatch can hit peak levels with the right amount of alcohol.

u/washcyclerepeat 13h ago
I no longer drink alcohol. I actually quit during the time I was watching the final season air live. The show and a treadmill helped me change my life around.

For real. I remember going to work the morning after Fun and Games aired, listening to Any Way You Want It.

I saw the whole BCS series as it aired, as well as seasons 4 through 5B of Breaking Bad.
I don't think I will ever get as excited for a TV show again. I'm super nostalgic for the airing of both shows, especially the final season of BB

I remember watching Saul Gone feeling like I was spectating my country playing a World Cup knockout game. I wasnāt at the edge of my seat, I was literally standing up and pacing around. I havenāt felt this way for a show since.

It was the last TV show (and I wonder if it'll be the last ever), where I changed plans around being able to watch it either live, or later that night if not live. In particular when it became clear we were getting into sequel territory rather than prequel, where it was like oh snap we're getting more story to the story we've already known for a decade! Also for me, the Episode in season 5 with the desert shootout and walk, that hit perfectly in the middle of the pandemic work-from-home timeframe.

For BCS, I waited until all of the episodes for each season had aired so I could watch them all rapid fire. Did not do the same for Breaking Bad. But the break between season 5 part 1 and 2 in breaking bad was something else. Having to wait a year for Hank to finish his dump was excruciating.

It really was amazing to watch the last season as it was airing. It still had that locked-in Covid vibe, and the show was an escape, and kept me on the edge of my seat week to week! I actually jumped out of my seat in euphoria when they pulled off their scheme in Plan and Execution - and then felt like shit not too long after...

if i remember correctly it was season 4 for me
being on the subreddit and reading theories and analyzes was so great!!

I started watching BB in season 4 I think week to week on tv, like sometimes as it was airing, sometimes watched it later that Sunday night, or the next day or 2 on my DVR at the time. Watched seasons 1-3 on regular DVD. (!) Feels like itās starting to be a long time ago now. the first 3 seasons were seen after word of mouth was spreading rapidly about how good it was.
Seasons 5a and 5b were peak tv viewing experience for me. Watched it with friends and family, and was very aware as it was happening that it would be memories in my life I would remember forever. BCS, I also loved, but had less friends and family around, and it struck a different chord for me. Itās excellent tv, but BB will always be better, probably for biased nostalgia, but have other reasons.
BCS is definitely more than ājust a lawyer showā but it had that feel sometimes, and American tv is littered with lawyer, doctor/hospital, crime/cop, etc. type of shows, and BCS I think suffers a little because of that. It makes it a little more same feeling for other shows out there on tv. BB was almost totally unique, especially at the time. Antihero stories werenāt invented here, but it wasnāt as common, and who has created a story of a former chemist, high school teacher that decides to manufacture Chrystal meth when he gets a cancer diagnosis?

u/saul_63_ 11h ago
Breaking Bad definitely has the most original premise of any show. Better Call Saul can sometimes feel like a lawyer show, but is very centered on the characters and moral decline. It's hard for me to decide which is better, and I'm not sure if there is a real answer to that question for me.

u/wss_why_so_scared 8h ago
BB definitely better. BCS was unique as well. I loved how BCS could make you cheer for, then against the same character over and over. Brilliant writing.

I remember the weekly promo posters for each s6 episode and everyone trying to decipher what they meant.Ā

One of the best tv shows ever.. By far better than bb..

Both are great. BCS is simply on another level because the creators took from Breaking Bad and were able to improve upon that. The sad thing for me is NOTHING COMPARES to BB and BCS. Nothing hits like those 2 shows.
True Detective is close to them, itās that good. Sopranos is pretty good. Barry was pretty good. Outside of these 5 shows itās hard for anything to hold my attention.

u/saul_63_ 14h ago
The Sopranos and The Wire are my favorites, but Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul carries the most nostalgia for me. All of them are peak though.

Me! I was an extra in S6E4 and I couldnāt wait to see if I made the cut (I am in the background of a scene for like two mins)
It was the episode Rhea directed so it was cool seeing her on set. Iād been an extra before but only in the nail salon in S4 š so Bob was the only actor there.
Also, because I live 20 mins north of ABQ, there was a watch party at a brewery downtown every week. It was fantastic watching it liveā¦especially the end of Plan & Execution
1
u/saul_63_ 14h ago
I'm jealous lol. Did you get to meet any of the actors and chat with them?
2
u/KimWexlerDeGuzman 13h ago
Bob was there because he was the only one in the scene. Itās when heās sitting outside the courthouse and the other attorneys donāt want to have lunch with him.
He spoke to us as a group afterwards and was funnyā¦it took half a day to film such a short scene. He said it must be hard pretending to talk that whole time š¤£

Did not come close to comparing with the breaking bad final season hype train. That toilet seat was scorching hot!!!

watching saul gone live was like being wrapped in a blanket made of pure nostalgia, every week felt like a little hug from an old friend

I was watching s6 while it was airing and was waiting for the new episodes to drop each week on Netflix. Will never forget watching the finale for the first time after it dropped.

Only caught the last two seasons of BB when it aired live. Very grateful to have seen the whole run of BCS as it aired. I miss it, those were the days.

I still remember circling around the tv with some of my buddies when Season 5 of Breaking Bad dropped. Our minds were blown when Walt panned into frame at Dennys with hair and a new name

Started watching breaking bad around Christmas break then rolled right into BCS to end in the spring with season 6 original air starting that April. Season 6 is the only season I watched in weekly release.

u/ITehJelleh 6h ago
the added sequence to the final episode with the farewell was so bittersweet watching live . . also the wines & roses opening of S6 when it looked like a gene opening but we see saul's mansion instead
Great times

I started BB when it was close to ending, timed my binging that I watched the finale on airdate, so BCS was there the whole way. Very glad too!
Only one Im glad I found after release was Attack on Titan, that took 10 yeara for 4 seasons! Lol

I watched it every week it aired since the pilot
The Jeff recast almost ruined the entire show for me. Ruined season 6 for meāat least just the āblack and whiteā portion

I watched all of it as it aired. Season 6 was undoubtedly the worst season of the whole series.

Nah I'd argue 5 or 4 is worse. At least 6 had plan and execution and some of saul gone was good. Nachos death despite not liking the ultimate ending, was acted incredibly well and intense. Lalos death was stupid and his entire plot line in s6 was dumb too. I love the show overall, but yeah it has a lot of missteps compared to bb which I can't think of 1 scene that wasn't needed. Birthday song maybe, that's it š

u/CaptainStar 14h ago
It's a few things for me. Lalo becoming an international special secret agent man for one episode, then almost immediately gets killed by a chicken restaurant owner in a, frankly, humiliating fashion.
Kim doesn't disclose Lalo is still alive to Jimmy. Kim's 180 heel turn deciding to ruin Howard made no sense either. I didn't enjoy watching them prepare to fuck with Howard, and when he died I just rolled my eyes.
Nacho had a cinematic death, nice for him I guess. No guarantee his dad will always be safe, but whatever Nacho is dead so it doesn't matter anymore?
Then Saul got caught and the rest happens, I didn't really care at that point. I enjoyed the show a lot more when Chuck was around.

u/jhz123 13h ago
Couldn't agree more with everything u said. Kim's 180 is the biggest one. I don't believe she would do that, I find her back story hilarious from the second I saw it. Shoehorned in to make sense but it made it more silly lol. Also now I'm supposed to feel bad for her? At least with Walt it was cool seeing him go against gus, and it was easy to turn on him when u realize he's a horrible person very early on. But with Kim I just didn't feel anything near the end. Same with saul lowkey. It baffles me when people say bcs is better than bb. Sure in cinematography and show don't tell and maybe some bits of dialogue when chuck was around. Not topping bb as a consistent coherent story. No shot

We had to wait nearly a year for Hank to get off of the toilet in season 5 of Breaking Bad š
