Gus’s pollos tie is a clip on

Symbolism for his pollos side being a front
Im certain this has been pointed out before but I’m on yet another BCS rewatch and felt to share

No symbolism, that’s the norm in fast food places for safety reasons

It is symbolic to show it's all a facade and also yeah if you work around open flames and a deep frier being able to take off your tie if it catches fire.

Interesting. I never considered this.

"no symbolism"? it serves a twofold purpose to show this on screen. yes, it's a realistic detail but it's quite obviously symbolic.

normal things can also be symbolic

I didn’t think Gus was making a fashion statement, I meant symbolism in the show

They know that. They are saying it isn't symbolism in the show, they are saying it is attention to detail by the show. Clip on ties are a safety precaution for jobs like his, which is a much better explanation than symbolism.

And they're saying you're reading too much into it because using a clip on ties in fast food places is the norm (per them) due to safety reasons.

sometimes the curtains really are just red

its also because he has people trying to kill him and a regular tie is a major disadvantage

This. Hard to choke someone with a clip-on.

Maybe he couldn't tie a good knot either.

Absolute nonsense

Would a clip on tie stop a bullet

I don't have the data to back this up, but probably not.

Probably heard about Mike’s holmgang beating at the taco place and thought, “I need to make some changes.”

cue the suit shop Jimmy went to for his copycat stunt

A lot of people who wear ties in jobs that are not just sitting around at a computer wear fake ties. You do not want to accidentally choke yourself if it gets caught between two boxes, you might not want to operate a cash register with a choking device around your neck for someone to grab etc

Weirdly just made me realize that I wore a real tie as a bank teller for years. That probably was a safety issue.

Luckily, the only time I was robbed was when I worked as a video store clerk.

My dad was a federal law enforcement agent and he exclusively wore clip ons (and so did his peers) for safety reasons. His shoes also looked like dress shoes but were just athletic shoes that were nice on top. This wasn’t too common so that always made me laugh, especially because my dad REALLY wasn’t a runner 😂

It's absolutely symbolism (it's fake), it's absolutely characterization (he chooses it deliberately), and it's absolutely accurate to the real world.

Gus Fring knows a real tie is the classier option and he also knows that any regular manager of a fast food joint would likely prefer and possibly even be required to use a clip-on tie.

So no one can strangle him with it.

And for a lot of criminals. Grabbing someone by a REAL tie just gives them a handle to pummel you again and again. A clip on throw off the opponents when it pulls right off.

Insert non-existing Kim Possible Bueno Nacho Clip-on Tie GIF here

That first pic gives hole in the wall vibes. Just sayin.

I would have been more surprised if it was a real tie. Wearing a tie that wraps around your neck all day long while working in a restaurant sounds horrible

Well duh, it's just for show.

Standard in fast food.

His Dark Gus suit definitely has a proper tie.

he has a real for “work” it’s specifically because that’s exactly how a manager would dress

how did he tighten his tie when he died? was he wearing a real one for his secret business?

u/Quailer48 2d ago

His ties are as fake as his character

u/thornehater 2d ago

Yes, the fictional character made up for a TV show is fictional.

2

u/Purple_Swordfish_182 2d ago

They obviously meant the persona
