Can anybody tell me what unit this is? Someone gave it to me for free. I'm looking into starting the hobby but there's an overwhelming amount of datasheets to sift through. Thanks.
It can be run and any and change each game, battletech as a whole is Model-agnostic, if you have a warhammer it can be any warhammer, if need be the salt shaker could be a warhammer as long as everyone know what it is
BattleTech is the total opposite. You can play with paper standups, cardboard minis, small tokens, even a salt or pepper shaker! As the other guy said, so long as the front facing is clearly indicated, as long as your opponent is happy with the proxy (and I've never encountered anyone that wouldn't be happy with a proxy), you're good to go!
Might be different in official/sanctioned play though, but I don't think we're worried about that in your case! π
Welcome to battletech. Your Warhammer can stand in for any warhammer variant. Or a Battleaxe or Thug. Or anything reasonably close really. And if you need a second one, you can use a lego man. Or a pepper shaker with a sticker on it. As long as it fits in the hex and you can mark facing.
So the model is meant to be a specific variant, usually the standard/most common version but you can run it as whatever as others have said. In the warhammer's case I don't thing the variants even look that different.
Not a problem, this is one of my sets I have yet to put together, and somewhere I have a lead figure or 2 for the battletech. Brought it out just to take a picture just for the fun of it now, comparison.
No matter how much I see them, I can't help but think about them, same goes for the transformer g1 jetfire and the macross valkyrie.
What mech? I don't see any mech. I thought there was one but when I looked there was nothing. I've got a good memory too so unless there is a way to unsee something I don't know. Wish there was a way things could be UNSEEN theres plenty I would like to, oh hey look at the figures in the background, are those from WARHAMMER?
Okay enough messing around, it's a Warhammer which is one of the mechs pulled out of the series to prevent legal issues with Harmony Gold over designs in Macross. We call these mechs the Unseen. Warhammer, phoenix Hawk, Maurauder, Archer, battlemaster, Long Bow, Stinger, and a few others are all part of the unseen.
It's not quite the Unseen version, the SRM-6 launcher is horizontal on that mini, and vertical on the Unseen artwork (and original metal sculpt before they got removed). It's probably the closest to the Unseen asthetic that I've "seen" lately other than the originals though.
If you have experience with other miniature wargames but Battletech seems like a lot to jump into all at once, alpha strike is the rules-lite version of the game that uses inches and a dry-erase data card instead of an entire sheet. I find it much easier to get my 40k friends to play alpha strike instead of full battletech.
I say this about pretty much any game, but the best version is the one you get to play the most, so if there is a good battletech community in your area, play whatever version they are playing.
