I'm rather partial to the Denzel Curry cover. That boy has some views, I wot.

u/metalman42 Aug 09 '26

Damn! That energy! I only ever heard Chris Cornell try to cover rage and I was not impressed. This guy rocks though. Thanks for sharing!

Hell yeah! My brain started playing it immediately.

Firestarter, Rifleman, Archer, Kodiak, Warhammer, Stormcrow, Nova, Marauder (IIC?), Timberwolf, Mad Dog

What a lovely collection! Are the instructions up on brothersbrick or something?

u/Canuckelhead33 Aug 09 '26

nice work! you know your mechs! You can find ‘em on Rebrickable, see the social link in my bio…I wish the Brothers did a piece on ‘em…

YO I have been looking for instructions for lego mechs that are a reasonable scale to minifigs and ESPECIALLY a timberwolf. These are AMAZING!

So It's ancient now, honestly surprised it's still up, but here's a link to one of the OGs of Lego battlemechs on the internet; http://brickcommander.com/ the absolute OG, Ron Perovich's LEGO Mechwarrior website is long gone AFAIK.

The designs themselves are old-school both for the mech and the building techniques. But all mechs, vehicles, and aerospace models are mini-fig scale. The buildings are technically mini-fig scale, though being based on how they appear in Mechcommander I think they model out a bit small.

All plans are available for free in the download section, the lego editor in use is older but sill avaliable AFAIK.

Pretty sure the site isn't mobile friendly though, just a head's up.

Thanks for the information and the heads up! I'll check it out on desktop.

OP's design looks good, too, though the warnings about putting strain on some parts are slightly worrisome. My choice will probably come down to which model is cheaper to order parts for, though!

2

u/Icy_Steak8987 Aug 11 '26

Just checked the site and they models are AWESOME! Mechcommander 1 is my favorite so the look is really nostalgic! And they're the right scale for my display case. Got the .dat files. Just need to look for a reader that can view them. Thanks again!

There are instructions on the top of the specific "downloads" page. But to save you a click you want to get LDRAW from  https://www.ldraw.org/ and download the latest parts pack from same. (Or at the least the "01/2005(December)" parts pack)

I haven't played with it in twenty years but it seems LDRAW is still being updated with parts packs from this year.

Thank you so much for the assist! Love the boxy Mad Cat. Very 90s.

2

u/Teberoth Aug 12 '26

Happy to help.

It's kind of sad that Ron's site is gone. He and his brother used their Legoechs to make a whole "comic". It wasn't exactly good, but it had that FASA era charm.

I had no idea Mech Commander mechs were Lego’ed back in the day until relatively recently. Hansen Bricks’ Uriel, Ryoken, and King Crab got me hooked…LEGO has created so many great new pieces since then that have allowed MOCs to go to the next level…so many great techniques out there to learn too!

Well, this answers the question I was about to ask regarding if there were directions for the Rifleman.

2

u/Complex_Technology83 Aug 09 '26

Awesome, thanks!

u/TheDeadEndKing Aug 09 '26

Now the second question is: Do you have just an insane LEGO collection, or so you just buy the pieces that you need? xD

1

u/Canuckelhead33 Aug 10 '26

ha ha ha, wish I had an insane Lego parts collection…I test build ’rainbow’ mechs first, then figure out what colour schemes will work, then buy pieces that I need…

sometimes I just stumble onto a great piece like the snake head ninjago curved wedge on the ‘whammy, and it becomes the Centre piece for the Colours of the build…

1

u/TheDeadEndKing Aug 10 '26

Where do you buy the pieces? I have one or two of your instructions but…well, missing a bit from my collection to complete them lol

There are a number of ways I acquire my bricks…

-Lego Pick a Brick has gotten MUCH better in recent years…buy enough bricks and shipping is free…

-Local Brick Bin stores are great if you have time to mine for bricks…

-Bricklink & Brick Owl… I have a number of store favorites here in Vancouver, that I can pickup locally and save the shipping (upload parts lists or directly from Studio App)…Lots of great tutorials out there…

-breakdown an old set for spare parts…

-honestly most parts I buy specifically. Theses MOCs range from $150 to $300 can depending on colour, with white and black tending to be cheapest…

Build Well!

u/Gimlz Aug 09 '26

Do you have instructions for these?

6

u/Canuckelhead33 Aug 09 '26

see link to Rebrickable in my social bio...otherwise go there and look up 'canuck33'

u/soulless_ape Aug 10 '26

However designed the lego versions of the archer and ghostbear broke the mold, they are amazing.

3

u/Canuckelhead33 Aug 10 '26

Thank you! They are my designs…available on Rebrickable under ‘canuck33’. Unfortunately many have been pirated by cheap Chinese knock-offs...I guess that is ultimately a compliment…

2

u/CycleZestyclose1907 Aug 10 '26

Impressive. I think the biggest limitations I ever had for lego builds was just getting the right pieces. Lego sets be expensive even when I was a kid.

How'd you get all the pieces to make these? Did you piece them together from spare blocks from random sets or did you just buy pieces individually in bulk?

u/Safe_Flamingo_9215 Ejection Seats Are Overrated Aug 09 '26

LEGO-style building bricks. Maybe even actual LEGO, but these days there are multiple manufacturers of compatible bricks.

16

u/Canuckelhead33 Aug 09 '26

ALL legit Lego, and my designs…imposters be damned!

1

u/Kralgore MechWarrior Aug 09 '26

Are your Ties all custom builds?

2

u/Canuckelhead33 Aug 09 '26

those are Jerrac’s Brickvault Tie Fighter collection…older generation with the larger top and bottom dishes…best Ties out there in my humble opinion…https://www.brickvault.toys/en-ca/collections/tie-collection-1?srsltid=AfmBOooLcka_rpWUAWpQkelZP-h51oABprddGQ1DqgDto95p3M2M4kTO

1

u/AJTwombly Aug 09 '26

Those are stunning. Truly impressive work. Love the colors, too.

2

u/Canuckelhead33 Aug 10 '26

Thank you! I love colour! I am an architect by day and find we are so afraid of using colour in our urban environments…nice to have a little Lego therapy…

u/Kralgore MechWarrior Aug 09 '26

u/Gilles_of_Augustine Aug 09 '26

Do you have instructions that you can share for these? I have a couple of nephews who would LOVE it if I ordered the parts custom, and we made an afternoon out of building one or two of these!

1

u/Canuckelhead33 Aug 10 '26

see link to Rebrickable in my social bio...otherwise go there and look up 'canuck33'

1

u/Infamous-Eagle-1313 Aug 09 '26

Fantastic MOCs! I picked up the instructions for your Marauder but could use some guidance on swapping the colors? It seems the stud.io file has the parts for every color option so it tries to purchase 5x the parts. Is there any way to streamline the color swap without manually changing part quantities on bricklink?

1

u/Canuckelhead33 Aug 10 '26 edited Aug 10 '26

wonderful! thank you for your support! if you need any assistance with the build, private message me on Rebrickable...

RE: Colours: just delete the Colours you don’t want and save as…the you can order all of those…

Question! How so you achieve a stable connection between body and legs, and what techniques do you like to use best?

1

u/Canuckelhead33 Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 15 '26

I typically use a single technic friction pin…in each build the pelvis has a large flat tiled area directly below the torso to provide a good platform for support…The technic pin spin freely which allows you to change torso position easily without having to hold the legs. All of them, stand well on their own. Sarnanet lore for Archer even indicates that the ‘horse hooves’ were later designed out for more stable feet…

I plan to build a series of hex bases styled on a modified Hansenbrick’s design that the Mech feet can mount to…you can see that on the Mad Dog in the photos. I will get to those in the winter tim…

I love all unique techniques! My favorite ones are

  1. Lego Ninjago Zane mech knee: I have incorporated that into every mech. This joint supports more weight than the friction rotation joints, and has smoother action.
  2. Lego Guardians Ship (orange one) hinged ‘piston’: to provide resistance in the calf for all my ‘bird‘ mechs, and
  3. clever back to back connections and the small free play in stud connections strategically
