We legit need a Wikipedia article of anti-gay pastors who turned out to be pedophiles

Thats the entire post, this is so common and people are still trotting out "LGBTQIA+ people are grooming your kids" despite the fact we all know that's not true

Now I'm not a Wikipedia editor, if I tried making a page that inflammatory it might get taken down assuming I could even do it. So if anyone here has actual motion in the Wikipedia editor side of the internet, well, here's an idea

A Christian told me "Autism is a curse from Satan."

I was on the city bus today and I was rocking back and forth in my seat due to me being autistic. A woman sitting across from me asked me why I was doing that. I told her it helps me because of my ASD. She started telling me Autism is "a curse from Satan" and that she "has seen many autistic children cured by Jesus by praying and you should do the same. I told her if Satan made me autistic then it is more proof he is the good guy and NOT God. She ignored me the rest of the time until I exited the bus.

Does "Freedom of Religion" also encompass "Freedom From Religion?"

Pretty tired of the US government bickering over interpretations of holy books instead of interpretations of current data sets.

If it doesn't, it needs to.

Driver Ashton Friend avoids jail (suspended sentence) after fatally hitting a woman kneeling on the road at 11 PM in Hillcrest, Australia

I'm a bit confused here. According to the article, the woman had been kneeling (praying) in the middle of the road for around four minutes at 11 PM before she was hit.

So what exactly makes the driver responsible for the accident? Was there evidence that he was driving carelessly, or was the sentence mainly for leaving the scene?

I'm not defending the hit and run part. I'm genuinely trying to understand how responsibility is determined in a situation like this.

My dad always says “they said this would happen in the Bible” to everything

Recently my dad said “when flesh and machine come together it’s the end of times” and he said it was referring to ai. Another one he said was that there were 2 Jewish temples and only now are they making the third and in the Bible when the third is built it’s the “end of times”. Is this true and what do you think about this? Me personally I’m agnostic but idk sometimes he says stuff like this and it scares me

Alcoholic recovery programs for atheists

Hello, I'm Bridget. I'm a second-generation atheist (my parents are atheists), and I'm raising a kid who is a third-generation atheist. I'm proud and no-nonsense about it. I'm looking for a support group or program for people who drink too much. I don't want to have to accept a "higher-power" like in AA. Do you have any leads or ideas? Thank you for your time.

Christians never have a comeback for my reasoning for not being religious.

I've found a perfect way to describe why I'm not religious to people preaching in comments that seems to shut them up.

I have a nice TL;DR for my experience.

Essentially: I tried really hard to be accepted into the church. Unfortunately the flock disregarded me and the shepherd left me out in the storm. Once I realized I was abandoned I never looked back.

Oh, and I did try. I was in Sunday and Wednesday catechism achool, I went to summer day camp for catechism. I was an alter girl. However, why would I want to stay part of a "community" that doesn't want me. I never made a single friend or acquaintance despite trying and praying so hard. I constantly wondered what was wrong with me. My pastor also never remembered my mother's name despite being in a small congregation. And he laughed about it during his speech at her funeral service.

I just find it amusing no one has a good comeback for my story. How do you explain an entire community of people letting a child down? You can't. It shows how shitty religion truly is.

I discovered that Islam has been distorted over the centuries!

It's funny how they always say Islam is fixed, but I discovered that 100 years ago, women in my village in Arabia didn't wear the niqab; we only covered our hair so we could sit with other men. It seems the religious police invented this Later in the 70s

It seems they distorted hadiths and interpretations to make it appear obligatory, but Islamic interpretations since its inception have been contradictory, with interpretations of women's dress changing over time

If your pastor owns a private jet, you're in a cult.

5.8k Upvotes

I don't care what anyone says. If your spiritual leader is flying in a private jet while you're struggling to pay your rent, you're not in a religion; you're in a wealth transfer scheme.

Jesus was a homeless carpenter. He didn't own a single thing. The apostles didn't drive Mercedes. But today, pastors are living like billionaires while telling their congregation to "plant a seed" with their last 100 bob.

If your pastor needs a private jet to "spread the gospel," he's not spreading the gospel. He's spreading his ego. Stop giving your money to these conmen. If you want to help people, help them directly. Your tithe isn't going to God..... it's going to the pastor's lifestyle. Wake up.

Religion will never recover from the internet

Internet kills religion (fortunately)

The number of apostates and the number of irreligious/atheists have grown more and more ever since the internet was created. It’s logical, since muslims (and well, religious people) were always in a bubble of the interpretation of the village. Questioning Islam means questioning the norm, because there was no ‘other norm’ in reference. Issues were ignored or made unaware, lies and traditions were spread, and stuff like that. Religion truly never is a belief, it is a system to find likeminded people. Most religious people genuinely don’t fully know their religion or embrace it intellectually, but it gives them a clear moral label that helped in the past when contact was practically always physical.

With the internet, this entire thing changed. Facts that were hidden or not shared could be accessed by everyone, philosophical debates were not limited to the wealthy and smartests, and foreign concepts are introduced internationally.

Religion, in itself, cannot survive the internet. The concept of making a rule ALWAYS morally black and white is impossible when humanity has diverging opinions and now also the ability to share them. Religious interpretations, hidden facts about Islam, and stuff like that are now established views, and making everyone who doesn’t believe in what you believe in an outsider is isolating.

Before internet, we were Muslims before we were people. A collective mindset. After the internet, we are humans before we are muslims, and the concept of religion and islam especially just collapse because of it.

We are experiencing a downfall of religion. Religious people call it a sign of the day of judgement, but we rational people call it the collapse of a system.

Any atheists who have read Why Christianity Makes Sense by Gavin Ortlund?

I’m an ex Christian who was raised super protestant/evangelical and my parents still occasionally try to convert me. Going through a rough patch in life and my dad is insisting I read this. I did some googling and can’t seem to find any atheist reviews or even agnostic, all seem to be from Christians, maybe some “struggling in their faith.” Just curious to hear thoughts from this community!

Help me refute this Christian argument.

Edit: Before I even posted this I had argued that just because something logically exist doesn’t mean it does. I could imagine a logically possible unIcorn, that doesn’t mean unicorns exist.

After reading some of your comment, I went with it is also logically possible to imagine a world where it is impossible for this being to exist. how do we det which version is correct? I will let you know if there is a response

I have been talking to this person on ask a Christian. this was their argument for God.

Help me find the flaws in the logic.

“The argument is about logic. Here's the simple version:

If the idea of a perfect being doesn't contradict itself, then it's possible He exists. If it's possible, He exists in at least one version of reality. But a perfect being can't just exist in some versions and not others. That would make Him less than perfect. So He has to exist in every version of reality, including ours.

Thus, the argument is that if the idea is even possible, then He must exist. So the real question is: can you actually show me a contradiction in the idea? "I don't accept it" isn't a contradiction.”
