Political Question Why am I supposed to be impressed with who Charlie Kirk was?

He was a paid professional debater. He went to a college campus, set up a tent and cameras, and engaged with amateurs who had no experience doing what he did. And the right loved him for it. His media team would then cut clips of him scoring points against amateurs, and they would push them out on all their social media feeds.

Isn't this like LeBron James going to a campus and setting up cameras while he played pickup games against kids who, at best, were on the college team but more likely dabbled in basketball, but were no match for the expert? And then what would people think if LeBron's media people cut clips of him dunking on these young amateurs and pushed them out as "highlights"?

Isn't Kirk's legacy just sad?

Just a reminder that the elderly cofounder of TPUSA didn't think COVID was a big deal. And he died of COVID.

Kirk was not a trained debater and he got walked by those who were. Which is why he stuck to college students.

Yes, unprepared college students who walked by. Any time he faced prepared, capable students, his BS fell apart.

I didn’t like him at all, but I think you’re disingenuous with this sentiment I see often repeated in threads like this. Those college kids were not unprepared. They had weeks of notice. They stood in line. Some signed up to debate him and would wait patiently for hours for the chance.

If they looked ill prepared to defend their opinions, that they wanted to voice, that’s 100% on them.

It often went like this . Charlie asks them “what do you want to debate about?” They tell him a topic like underwater basket weaving. Charlie goes into asking pointed questions, then his sound bite script. Student acts confused and ill prepared.

He’d lose against them most of the time but his team would edit around that. He was an awful debater and any team he went up against an adult with media training and his team couldn’t edit it, he’d get absolutely wrecked.

It's almost as if he had been preparing each such subject for years.

You can see videos where they are just walking by a booth/tent/whatever he set up--sure, and some where people planned ahead, but in his early days, not so much.

You seem like a Russian propaganda bot. If you aren't, that's really sad.

I always wondered this. Do you have links to him debating anyone who has a fully formed prefrontal cortex?

You never saw the videos of him talking with college professors?

Most college professors aren't professional debaters either. Even if you have lots of knowledge on a subject, you can still "lose" if you aren't used to debating

Yes but they think they are great debaters which is why they have the confidence to step up to the mic
