Premisse is that there is a super rich conglomerate that created a drug/experiment that makes people share each other sentiments and emotions. They basically control the city the main characters are in.
They kidnap the test subjects (the things are the conglomerate mascots), shower them with a contract so good they couldn't refuse and then release them.
The experiment is apparently safe and effects are temporary.
Its played for laughts, and yes the conglomerate CEO is that much of a weirdo. But he does have good intentions. As his objective is to create a place where people share their hearts and understand each other.

See if billionaires had actually neat ideas like this instead of a surveillance state and pedophilia people might be more tolerant of them 🤷♂️

To be fair the head of the conglomerate was a subject in the first itteration of said experiment (the story happens at the second) but it ended in a failure as the participants ended up angry at each other emotions, refusing instead of accepting them and basically destroying any amicability they had.
The head has some level of trauma and psyquiatric problem that makes her unable to understand people and how they think (just like the main character of the anime), but her greatest wish is to be able to do that, even after the failure because "even though it was sad, it was also the closest i ever felt to people".
So she isn't doing this just for the giggles and she isn't weird just vause as well, but in her defense she DOES believe this is the best for society and was willing to stop to experiment after "the failure" was seemingly starting to happen again.

I liked that anime. One of the few 12-episode animes, that I still remember.

I genuinely do not remember this from the anime

Thats how they were "kindly summoned" to the new "experiment events".
Part of it was that the subjects NEEDED to interact with each other instead of just living their lives, so they did some reality show kidnappings to put them into social interactions, like going to the beach

Having all of your minions wearing full mascot costumes seems like a logistical nightmare
