4 to 12? Seems like the worst of both worlds to me... Too high low end magnification to be useful upp close, and too low high end magnification to be useful at long range..?

It's an MVPO, it's not for short range or long range, it sits in the same niche as an ACOG while providing higher magnification. Just like an ACOG if you want to shoot close up, there are options to mount a red dot on it. It's an awesome optic that's really compact and light for what it offers. Really a great choice on a 5.56.
