Save Issues on GOG

Well I'm extremely disappointed. I was really hoping to finally try this game out and after almost wrapping up the tutorial, I saved, but didn't actually save. I'm shocked that this game breaking bug is not discussed more. I verified the game files, I ran the game as administrator, I turned off cloud sync, I even tried adding the launcher through steam. My patience is kind of at the end of it's rope with this game and that sucks really hard because I was really liking it.

EDIT: I thought I got it working. I reinstalled the game to a directory not within the program files x86 ( I have no idea if the directory location is crucial but it ain't broke now) then I opened properties on the game launcher. There I checked the box to always run as administrator, as well as enabling compatibility mode with windows 8. This let me save but about another hour in I tried making a second save and this is where I hit a brick wall all over again. Edit 2: Ok to be blunt even though I set it to boot as administrator with compatibility mode, I'm guessing launching it from gog caused that to reset which is why it caused problems again? I'll try testing that later

Have you tried to go into the folder "C:\Users\\Documents\my games\XCOM - Enemy Unknown or Enemy Within" and delete the XCOM folder?

Ok, glad you figured it out according to the edit, and yes try not to install games in that folder, can recommend just creating a dedicated folder for it, I have 2, on 2 different drives.

Unfortunately it did not work. Once I tried making a new save file it was unable to and reverted my first one back into the tutorial when I reloaded.

Probably has something to do with folder permissions. Check where it stores the saved data and try to change permissions of that folder. Also you can try contacting support if you still can't figure it out. They have helped me in the past with other games https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?form=technical&product=gog

Most people run the Steam version, so I guess the GOG version doesn't get much attention. That's about all I can say.

There's numerous upgrades you can research to improve your chance-to-save.

Well I'm now thinking the cause was the achievement system. Game reverted a save after I got one so maybe it's just best to make a new save everytime I need to. Still crazy how much I gotta bend backwards for this game
