Writing Prompt [WP] Usually, when people try to beat Death at chess, it's so they can resume living. You, a chess grandmaster, just wanted one last game before you went, and Death is pleasantly surprised.

"For someone who knows when the end is coming, I feel I should have known the outcome of this game. You really put it to me here."
A bony hand waved at all of his pieces set very neatly beside his opponents end of the chess board.
Sergio could hear the smile from deep in the shadows of Deaths hood.
"It was an honor to play one such as you," Serg said averting his eyes.
"Pish posh. Do away with the kissing of my bony ass," Death said playfully before his tone slipped toward something darker, "I take it for your prize you wish to live a while longer?"
"I am an old man. Another few years, even hours should be nice. But I don't want that," Serg with a grin.
"Out with it then," came the soft demand from Death.
"Am I the best? The best there ever was? Surely you've played all the greats."
Sergio blinked fast and licked his lips, desperate for the answer and afraid of it.
Death stood and placed a hand gently on the old mans shoulder, "Few have ever beat me and fewer still so soundly."
"So, not the best then," the grandmaster said with disappointment.
"Hold your head up high. You're among the greats," then Death leaned in and said conspiratorally, "and you've not played your last game, not by a long shot."
Death leaned back and basked in the radiant smile of Sergio Wvalder. The man looked happy. Excited even.
Then, he was gone.
Death did not know where it was he sent people. But he liked to send them there smiling.
