Writing Prompt [WP] You and your twin brother have been accepted into the magic academy. Aside from the snobbish nobles, everything should be going well... if it weren't for the fact that you don't have a twin, but a skinwalker who failed to take your place because you're immortal. What could possibly go wrong?

"Is this going to work?"
I sat with elbows on knees and my hands clasped. My other sat opposite, a perfect mirror. His eyes snapped up to find mine and we both sighed. Even though we had merged months ago, our thoughts were still nearly identical. This wasn't a conversation, we were just thinking out loud.
"We aren't clever enough to fabricate a false childhood for one of us and keep the story straight," he said. Technically, he was the copy, but that distinction seemed to matter less and less as time went on. As it was, we had hard enough of a time calling me "Kellen" and him "Kenneth."
Drumming my fingers on my knuckles, I nodded slowly. "But we can't just walk away from the offer. It's--"
"Something that only comes once in a lifetime," he said. "Even our lifetime" he added with a little grin that still looked out of place on our features. We were starting to get used to it, though.
I sighed, dragging my hands down my face. "But is it worth the risk to us? You especially."
He rolled up a sleeve and traced the lines of a tattoo near his elbow, a nervous habit unique to him. The tattoo was one of the few physical differences between us left, after all. "And do we still..."
"Want to separate?" Neither of us had an answer. "Well, if that's not our goal anymore, why are we still trying to go to the academy?"
He rolled his eyes. "Don't ask stupid questions. What if we told the truth?"
"Don't ask stupid questions." We both leaned back in our chairs with identical huffs, staring up at the ceiling as though we could divine the way forward in the cracked paint.
"We're going to risk it, aren't we?" We asked in unison.
He reached out and took my hand, clasping it tight. Right then, it felt like the only solid thing grounding me in the face of this enormous danger looming ahead of us. If anyone found out...
"I'll have your back," he said, still gazing upward.
"I won't let anyone hurt you."
That grin, the one that wasn't mine, crept on his face again. "We hate it when people make promises they can't keep, you know. Besides, I can't really die anymore. Technically."
"It's not the same," I said, squeezing down hard on his hand. "Don't joke about that. And there are things--"
"Much worse than death, especially--"
"For an immortal."
He gave my hand a parting tug, then took to his feet and ambled over to the window, leaning against the sill. "Hey, look on the bright side. Chicks love twins. We might finally get some action."
Even though his words weren't a surprise, I snorted anyway. "You don't have to rub it in." Immediately, I planted a hand right on my face. I knew what was coming.
"Better than rubbing it out, and you only have yourself to blame for that one. You were in a dry spell long before I tried to eat you."
"God dammit."
His chuckle was forced and fell flat, leaving us alone with the gnawing dread that had been swelling in our hearts ever since we got the acceptance letters.
"We're going to be okay, right?" he asked. I gave him the lie we both needed to hear.
"Don't ask stupid questions. Of course we are."

“Can you stop grinning like that? It’s creeping me out.”
“This is the face you make in the morning when you stare in the mirror while saying ‘this is the day I get a girlfriend’, dear prey.”
“Ok, firstly, not prey. We’re brothers, got it? Secondly, stop copying me and third… is that really how I smile? Seriously?”
Kelos and I walked down the corridor to the next classroom, him swaying from side to side, the arms and legs on the same side moving in tandem. Me slouching over hoping not to draw undue attention. But speaking of undue attention…
“Why, if it isn’t Patchwork Hal and his weird twin,” Chaddralius the Fourth said as he swaggered up to us, “Can’t even fix a robe?”. I cover the holes in my clothes, hoping no one else heard. Chad’s two groupies burst out into giggles. Was it that funny?
“HA HA HA HA HA.”
Kel began joining in the laughter in a monotone voice. The smile never left his face. Chad shot him an annoyed look.
“What’s his problem?”
“I am human and enjoy humor.”
“You making fun of me? Need me to teach you a lesson, you-“
Blooch
A sharp claw suddenly pierced through my chest. It withdrew, leaving a gaping hole, which slowly patched itself back together. The noble and his posse looked on in horror, some of my blood having splattered on their faces. I turned to Kel.
“Really? Now?”
“You let down your guard, my pre- brother,” He licked the blood flowing down his fingernails, which smoothly transitioned back to a human hand.
Chad pointed a shaking finger at me.
“P-people die when they’re killed!” He spluttered. I shrugged and cast a spell to clean the blood. Although my robes now had a new hole. I should really get on learning that sewing spell.
As the nobleboy began to heave, I caught one of the girls staring at Kel. That wasn’t a look of fear.
“I can fix him,” I heard her whisper to herself. What.
Ever the great listener, Kelos immediately turned to her, still keeping that grin. She seemed to blush a little. What the?
“Yes you can. What is your name, comrade human?”
“Sandy,” she giggled, adjusting her hair. What the hell?
“Your name is now mine, as is your body and soul.”
Her knees buckled, her friend catching her as she swooned.
Seriously. WHAT THE HELLS?!
At that moment, Chad stood back up, trying to keep some semblance of respectability. He motioned to the girls and took off walking down the hall in the other direction. They followed, but not before Sandy turned around and gave the damn Skinwalker a wink, mouthing ‘call me’.
The monster and I continued walking to class, and it turned towards me.
“I have secured your mate. You may now die in peace.”
“Wait, you think I’m immortal because I’m desperate? Screw you!”
As he cocked my own stupid smirking face at me, I had a weird thought.
Maybe I should be the one copying him.

In our room, he stares at me, grinning so wide, I shiver.
"Hey bro..." he starts.
"Ain't my bro," I say.
He pouts.
"Rude.
Anyway, I think I found my home.
You can piss off, if you want, damned mood breaker," he laughs.
I sigh.
He got into...the Shapeshifting branch...as a skinwalker.
How "lucky".
"Aren't you dumbass bounded to me though?" I ask.
He groans.
"See? Mood breaker!" he pouts, and tosses a pillow at me.
I dodge, as the pillow breaks the wall.
Damned skinwalker strength.
I sigh.
"You can only temporarily shapeshift into someone or something else, other than me...
Until you kill me," I grin.
"You are immortal, fucker," he lunges at me.
I laugh, as I kick him out the window.
And soon, a bird flies back in, transforming into my "twin".
The days pass by quickly.
I am in the Life branch, studying healing, creating, and plant related magic.
As an immortal, my magic is attuned to life force...
So I am actually good.
Nay, let me be for once cocky.
I am awesome.
Problem is...
"Ah, one of the Twin Stars," a teacher greets me.
My "twin" is a genius as well.
He can shapeshift into anything...
Of course he can...he is a fucking skinwalker!
Years pass, and things are great.
I become a full-fledged wizard, majoring in anatomy, and healing magic.
I am...a wizard doctor.
My "twin" is a Shapeshifter Master, and a druid circle up north is recruiting him.
Which means...
"Come there! There are sick people there too!" he begs me.
We can't really be far apart from each other.
Well, he can't be away from me for far too long.
I sigh.
"Fine," I mutter, and he laughs, and runs away.
Great.
Well, he isn't wrong.
I can heal people there too...

There will be a time where the immortal and the shape shifter wil get attached to the point of real brother hood and the immortalwill save the shape shifter from mortal danger that will result in what probably the most gruesome death anoyone could think of but it didnt stuck as he is immortal but now the shapeshifter is traumatize and wont let the immortal twin go out on his own alone any more unattended.
Shapeshifter:NO! Its unsafe outside!
Immortal: im immortal. Ill be fine.
Shape shifter: how can we be sure a stray demon king wont attack you!
Immortal: bitch, its just the convinence store. Also that was one time! And I wasnt even the target! It was YOU!
