Max Caster’s TNA run comes to an end in perhaps the most Max Caster way possible
89
u/boundless_lunacy 11h ago
“let’s sign the guy whose gimmick is being edgy… wait, why is he being edgy”
at least his release will make room for TNA to sign The Scorpion and put him in a tag team with The Frog
17
u/Top_Conference_477 11h ago
The thing about being edgy professionally is knowing what lines you can and can’t cross.
24
u/Dehumaneyezer 11h ago
He had a line about Ghislaine Maxwell on Dynamite like 4 or 5 years ago. This is not new for him.
19
u/AlexTorres96 11h ago
He also said that Andrew Cuomo was responsible for people dying during his term in the pandemic. Nobody cared about that because they agreed with it. If he took a dig at Mamdani, they'd be pissed.
4
u/Top_Conference_477 11h ago
Upsetting Maxwell isn’t going to cost anyone any contracts. Upsetting Riyadh can cost your boss a fortune - or worse
Maxwell and Epstein are exactly the sort of edginess you can get away with

If this is true, the line probably was noticed by TKO given the WWE partnership, and yeah... good luck pissing TKO off and keeping your job.

To be fair making a bar about a very recent bombing was bad on his part.
Their is a lot I can say about Saudi but I’m not going to make jokes about actual deaths

Dude should debut as Corporate Caster and show love to the Saudis

Can’t believe they parted ways with the best wrestler alive
61
u/inv4alfonso 11h ago
This is so stupid...
These are exactly what make him entertaining, don't cut the wings off it for fear of negative publicity that isn't even there.
If/when it came you apologize and that's it.
Wtf are we doing?
8
u/cpt_hatstand 11h ago
I think would suspect whatever silly money TKO get from Saudi Arabia is somewhat larger than the draw of Max Caster...
2
u/l00kAtTheRecluse 10h ago
Yeah they knew what they were getting. Not his first time doing this kind of thing

I think you are missing the bigger picture. It's easier to say sorry to TNA management, when they are the company that have no ties to the Saudi Arabian government, and all will be forgiven. On the other hand, there is a company that do have a connection to the Saudi government, that's WWE, which so happens to be the same company who have a PARTNERSHIP with TNA. So if TNA decided to just let what Max said in one of his lines slide, it's putting their partnership with WWE in jeopardy. They've made the right decision. He could have said any other thing in his promo and it still would have been great.
9
u/-Enders 10h ago
If they think he went to far and they want to fire him, then whatever.
But he did exactly what you hired him to do: go out and rap something edgy. You knew he was edgy, so they are just as much to blame for having no oversight on what he was going to say. So the right thing to do would be to hold that person accountable too, whoever decided Caster didn’t need to let anyone know what he was going to rap.

God forbid we offend the country who is about to execute someone for the crime of blasphemy
14
u/LibrarianNo6865 11h ago
It’s TNA. They have worked with Wwe and if they want to keep that door ajar, they needed to say this. It also helps he isn’t that important. Made the choice super easy. Im starting to think this was the plan from the start from him. He absolutely knew that line would get a reaction from TNA.

There is no way they gave him a microphone and told him to rap on the way to the ring with no clue what he was going to say
10
u/Silver964 11h ago
I mean…it’s TNA, there’s absolutely a chance that’s what happened. This is the same company that let a highly intoxicated man wrestle in the main event of a PPV.

How? We just had a terrorist attack. Not many, if any, companies would want that type of look on them.
2
u/TheManofReal 11h ago
I agree. I went and heard the line and I don’t feel like it’s anything more offensive than I hear in any other rap song or on a daily basis in politics. Anybody wanna talk about the fact that the president is cool with San Diego being blown up or do we want to be more upset at a wrestler?

How has TNA managed to be so stupid for so long despite many different owners and bookers? It’s truly incredible. Signing a guy who cuts controversial promos then being shocked that he did it again
3
u/Cowgirl_Taint 11h ago
In fairness, one would REALLY hope caster had learned his lesson at some point after the repeated sensitivity trainings and getting, allegedly, kicked off TV.
But yeah. Will be curious if we ever find out whether TNA greenlit this or he went rogue. Since I want to say still contracted TNA wrestlers have talked about how it is very much a "bullet points" company.
3
4
u/Tiny_Micro_Pencil 9h ago
If you believe they did this because the audience was offended then I have a bridge to sell you. He made fun of the same war mongering bastards that own the majority of the company he works at. You can connect the dots from here.
26
u/nu_metal_boii 11h ago
Not even a caster fan but wrestling has gotten so pathetic, cheesy, and corporate. All the fans crying for the attitude era but if any wrestler has even a tiny bit of “attitude” the company and half the fans want to cry online. This is why wrestling will never be that exciting and unpredictable again. It’s all about being the most marketable company to non wrestling fans, which just makes it the same as everything else in media. Take a risk for once, how many safe marketable 45+ year olds does wrestling need?
2
u/Embarrassed-Gur-1306 8h ago
You can have “attitude” without mentioning a bombing where the bodies aren’t even cold yet. Let’s be real, people who act like the line is no big deal only feel that way because of where the bombing happened. If a heel made a 9/11 line less than a week after it happened, it wouldn’t have gone over well back then. Hell, it wouldn’t go over well today.
2
u/itslilythedog 8h ago
Given how Muhammed Hasan's angle went when it lined up poorly with real life showed that it didn't go well in 2005.
2
u/Decent-Potato-8973 3h ago
Vince said the N word on tv... a week after Eddie Guerrero died they talked about him being in hell.... sheik abul Bashir's theme song was literally a plane crash.... New Jack thanked OJ for killing a white lady.... BigDaddyVs finisher was him ass fucking you. Wrestling has always had out of pocket moments, idk how this is any different.

I feel like why people want the attitude era back. It wasn't for the stuff that the wrestlers said nor do, its mostly because they want the Bra n Panties match back/intergender match and thats about it (this is from my experience)
2
u/JOMO_Kenyatta 10h ago
I feel that’s super duper wrong. Most of the highlights from that era are off the walls shit during matches or what the wrestlers were saying. You didn’t know why they were going to do next
1
u/Caitsith810 9h ago
This is very, very wrong.
The wrestling was better and not as soft and safe as it is today. The storylines, while some were extremely cheesy, were better than what they have today, and it wasn't as predictable. The moments were bigger, better and more captivating. The shows actually kept people hooked, unlike today's shows where it just feels a lot more like an acting audition for the wrestlers.

Wrestling has become so pussified over the years. And all thanks to politics, SJW weirdo crybabies and coked out corporate dickheads who need to know what it's like to walk on air

But I remember when Brian Kendrick was fired before he even made his AEW debut

Was that the same time we got the great “lol what’d u say? lol” and “oh shit” tweets from sabu?
3
u/GrapeSasquatch 11h ago
Didn’t know he left AEW
3
u/Kavirell 11h ago
His and Anthony Bowen's contracts expired like a week or so ago and AEW didn't renew them.
3
u/Odd_Lifeguard7720 10h ago
So no one at TNA checked and asked Max what he was going to say before he went out? 🤔

u/Cowgirl_Taint 11h ago
Somewhere, there is a group chat where TK, RJ, and probably even Bowens are just laughing their asses off.

His rap was the best thing to happen in that Bound for Glory. That PPV was mid af otherwise.

There definitely had to be more to this cause ain't no way.

Thing is, even if they did, Caster will have his fingers behind his back and do whatever he wants. He is that one dumb son of a bitch and I do mean DUMB.

The rap was good.
The timing is tough considering the attack. On the flipside, the fed does ppvs in a human rights disaster of a country.
But there is a history of this stuff: Hassan, Slaughter. Timing is what it is.

And that's why they had turn Cena into hulk Hogan because being edgy is the only way a rapper gimmick works

When people ask Bowens why he doesn’t wanna team with Caster, I got a feeling this stuff is a huge reason why.
No point having a boat attached to an anchor that refuses to not just weigh things down.

Dude was released from AEW, shot himself in the foot with TNA, probably annoyed WWE....he's not going to work with ROH, CMLL, and AAA either since they are all partners or owned by the major promotions. His gimmick won't work in Japan at all. Dude is gonna work for pennies at GCW or JCW. I like him too, but that was stupid and had zero thought. In part, TNA was at fault too for not providing some type of restrictions.
