Reminder: Zero Tolerance for Hate Speech and Harassment
We've noticed an increase in comments making off-color or outright hostile remarks about ICE, immigration enforcement, and vulnerable communities. Comments such as "ICE should just round them all up," "Was ICE there? Hopefully," and similar remarks violate Reddit’s policy against hate based on identity or vulnerability.
Why This Violates Policy:
Reddit explicitly prohibits content that promotes hate or harassment based on race, nationality, or other protected characteristics. Calls for mass enforcement actions against specific groups, jokes that dehumanize immigrants, and antagonistic remarks directed at individuals based on their identity all fall under this policy.
We want to be clear: this is not up for debate. Whether serious or "just a joke," this kind of rhetoric contributes to a hostile and unwelcoming environment.
Enforcement Moving Forward:
- Comments promoting or celebrating harm toward any group will be removed.
- Repeat offenders or those engaging in blatant hate speech will be permanently banned.
- If you see a comment that violates these rules, report it rather than engaging.
We expect our community to engage in discussions with respect. Keep it civil, keep it policy-focused, and most importantly, remember that behind every policy debate are real people with real lives.
Thank you for helping us maintain a welcoming and inclusive space.

Moving within Wilmington – need a studio/1BR by Dec 11, any advice?
Hey everyone,
I currently live in Wilmington and need to move by December 11. I'm looking for a studio or 1-bedroom in Wilmington or nearby towns (Leland, Hampstead, etc.). My budget is around $1000-1100/month, ideally with electricity/utilities included.
Does anyone have recommendations — affordable apartment complexes, private landlords, or listings I should check? I'm also open to renting a room if someone has one available.
I'm open to any suggestions and ideas. Thanks in advance!

Pure Genius.
Finally someone uses AI to do good. I know of two so far, not sharing the location as I’m certainly not helping this jackass and his campaign take them down. To whomever did this, my hat is tipped to you!
Vote! Fight for a better NC. 🤘🧘🏼♀️🔥

10/13/26 6:33am SpaceX Launch
To get ahead of it, and to let people know to be on the lookout, there is a scheduled SpaceX launch this morning from the Cape. The sun will rise as the rocket passes overhead and it should be a great show.
Look southeast at about 6:36am. Should not be able to miss it.
Get out and see it and post your pics.
It’s not a meteor or a UFO.
These have become more rare as SpaceX shifted Starlink to California until Starship is ready to start Florida launches.
This one is headed to the ISS.

Horror Convention Interest Survey
Hello everyone!
We're exploring the possibility of bringing a new one-day horror convention to Wilmington, NC -- and we want to hear from the horror community!
The idea is to create an affordable, community focused horror event featuring celebrity guests, horror vendors and collectables, oddities, panels, cosplay, horror gaming, practical effects and more.
We're currently in the early research and planning phase, so no event date, venue, or guests have officially been announced or booked. This survey is simply to help us gauge interest and learn what YOU would want to see from a convention in Wilmington.
The survey on takes a couple of minutes, and your feedback could help shape the event from the very beginning.
Thank you in advance for helping us plan the best possible experience for this convention, we look forward to hearing from you!

Hallmark shoots
Anyone out there crewed on a Hallmark production? I was in the film industry. I have been reading on how Hallmark film productions work and pay. I am reading that a full feature length show is shot in 2-3 weeks/ 1-2 million production budget, 80 per year, 50 -60% shot in Canada, All non union, & they actually try to nail a shot with one take? My jaw hit the ground. Everyone knows that TV movies are a nightmare but I had no idea it had gotten this bad. I mean if its that fucked up, how much of a loss is this to Wilmington?

ISO Judo instruction
Hello, I recently moved to the Wilmington, NC area and I'm looking for a Judo instructor or a dojo that teaches Judo as a primary art. Unfortunately it seems there are no standalone Judo schools near me, at least from what I've seen online. I have found plenty of BJJ schools that teach Judo as a secondary instruction, but that's how most BJJ schools are as Judo is inherently involved because it's mixed into BJJ but the chances are I'd go and just be rolling BJJ and learning BJJ primarily and that's not my interest. I'm willing to pay for private instruction as well. I trained at my previous Judo academy for 6 months prior to moving and I am a blue belt in BJJ so I'm not completely new, but I want to train strictly Judo. Could someone point me in the right direction? Thank you

As a local, the growth has taken a mental toll on me.
I know many people will be assholes in the comments bc this is Reddit 🥲 and people need to make everything about them….(looking at the transplants who are gonna take this as an attack even though it’s not)
but I’ll share anyways because I know a few people who feel the same, and I wonder if there’s more.
I have been struggling for the past couple years. I barely leave my house anymore. When I do, it’s the same few places that I know I can take back roads (that will soon enough prob not be back roads) to get to. Luckily, I started a job that I can do online a few months ago, and that’s cut down a lot of my anxiety. I lived in Wilmington because it was chill, laid back, and felt like a small town. I moved to a couple cities in my early 20s, but always ended up back here because I couldn’t handle the city life for long.
Everyone I talk to that’s moved here scoffs at me when I say the traffic/driving is a lot, because they say “this is NOTHING compared to where I moved from”, and I’m like, ok, Well, this is nothing compared to what Wilmington was like pre-2020. Introverted, sensitive people tend to want to live in smaller towns because they don’t like the hustle/bustle & rat race pace of life. It’s overwhelming. Even when I drive home from my second job at 10pm at night, cars are flying up on me, tailgating me, racing to cut me off. It’s just A LOT. My boyfriend, who comes from generations of Wilmingtonians, barely leaves his house anymore too. We both just get too overwhelmed by all the cars and people everywhere. And just the lack of care - cars not stopping at crosswalks, people not following basic driving rules, people not respecting personal space. But we don’t have the means to move somewhere smaller, and this is where our family is.
It feels like we’re being squeezed out of our hometown. A lot of the people we knew have moved away, or moved to the outskirts of Wilmington, that are unfortunately starting to get overdeveloped too.
It’s just an unfortunate, uninvited, massive shift in the place we call home.
Obviously this is because of economic issues our country is facing, and the people who have moved here were priced out of their hometowns. The rich people who moved here to capitalize on our affordable cost of living - fuck yall selfish asses, but the younger people just trying to find cheaper living, I totally understand. That’s why I said, my feelings about this should not be taken as an attack. Everyone across the country is feeling these strains in housing and affordability, and it’s a shame.
Because small town people deserve affordable small towns (that aren’t ghost towns with zero jobs) to have quiet, laid back lives in, and people who enjoy the rat race/fast pace life should have affordable places to live that offer them that. But I don’t see how anyone enjoys the way Wilmington is currently - to me, it’s clearly becoming overpopulated for the size of the town, especially with college in session.
There’s gotta be a tipping point?

So we saw this boat cruise up full on, do a donut right up on the island. Craziest thing I’ve seen in a while. How are they gonna get off the island?
