Specific Sleeping Bag Recs Needed
Hi all! I am a vetted backpacker, hiker and camper and am looking for a sleeping bag with some specifics. Being Reddit I figure this is the best place to ask.
I am looking for a down sleeping bag that's a little roomy, is not REI, ~20-30 degree ratings, and can take anywhere from the back country to regular camping trips. Additionally, I'd like them to be to zip entirely so my partner and I can zip them together and not have to deal with a whole separate toe box situation. And my one qualm is please no backpacking quilts- I have my own and while I like it, I'm looking for full coverage on fall overnights :)
Currently we're using old REI Siesta down 35+ bags from 15 years that we love but are borrowing from immediate family for trips, so would love recommendations!

check out some of the smaller cottage brands, a few of them make down bags with full separating zips that are cut a touch wide in the shoulders and hips
thats the tricky part, most backpacking specific bags run narrow for weight savings so you might need to look at their "expedition" or "car camping crossover" lines

My wife and I use Sea to Summit Ascent and Altitude bags and they zip together nicely. A little roomier than a true mummy and even more so when zipped together. Ours are 15F rated but I they also had a 30F version. They do have a couple of zipper configurations though, including a separate footbox zipper. I've used mine in the dead of summer and in late shoulder seasons with no issue. STS also has cooling and warming liners to extend the range a few degrees either way, but those would negate the zip-together-ness. I think the only criteria you'd be missing with this combo is the shared footbox. if you got a Women's Long you would get a little closer though. IIRC STS has a chart on their site on which bags are compatible to zip with each other.

You might consider a rectangular bag and a coupler ground sheet like this one which turns the bag into a 2-person bag.

I'm not sure what kind of bags Western mountaineering has out at the moment. They might have the exactly what you're looking for. Very darn good product and I think they still have just one shop San Jose making them. I started buying sleeping bags from them in 1974 when Jeff and Gary were college students sewing everything themselves. I spent a few months in 1986 stuffing their bags. Really nice quality and very good customer service. I think Gary still owns and runs the company. He must be in his 80 s now
