I've attempted to carve that variety of pumpkin/gourd. He picked the absolute worst one to try to put a knife in, and its surprising that the knife came out without an Excalibur in the Stone level of effort.

Was there any real damage to the pumpkin?

As much as this is genuine vandalism, and you can literally call the cops and charge him, I would give the benefit of the doubt that he's having a bad day, could've been broken horrible news and of all places he chose your decoration to destroy to express his feelings.

He is wrong in any scenario, and can be charged, but some people have emotional control problems.

He does need to be arrested, and hopefully he pleads insanity so he can be taken off the street and also given the help he needs.

Idk if I'd cry, but just picked up 4 of the cutest mini pumpkins today, and my first thought when he turned in was "awh man anything but them!".

Nice arrangement OP, hope it was salvageable.
