didn't realize my sunroof was open through an entire day of rain, first rain in months.

The next question is, how long has your sunroof been open and you not know? Surely there was wind noise the last… however long?

Maybe parked in open space with sunroof open?

I would understand it more if the cloth cover was also open, but who closes the cloth cover when they get out but not actually close the window part?

I’m surprised it’s even closed, all the cars with sunroofs I’ve driven don’t allow the cloth part to close if the main glass is open, the glass physically blocks the cloth part from closing when it’s open

Then next question is how can you have your sunroof open with the shade closed.

Doesn't suck quite as bad as driving it through a carwash open... while, of course, you and the family are in it.

for sure, that’s a whole other level of chaos. ever had a bird decide to join in too?

Ya. Nasty old seagull that just ate a herring and really needed to take a poo. That sucker hovered around the open top and let go just as he flapped right in... thought he was entering a bird bidet. Looked a lot like being inside a milkshake.

Was the cover closed but the sunroof open? My cars that have had sunroofs didn’t let me close the cover unless the glass was also closed

I have had both, some that would and some that wouldn't. On the ones that would, it would only let me do it if the sunroof was in vent, instead of fully open. My 02 Pontiac even had vents in the cover so it could be used closed.

That sucks.

and now it feels like that the rain waited month just to ruin your headliner.

I'm a detailer. I see this commonly (although it's the drain getting clogged, not being left open). Im not trying to scare you, it the water has no where to go but to the headliner. Which has no where to go but down the pillars, into the metal pan, where it soaks into the carpet. You'll need to run a dehumidifier inside for quite a long time if it's not too bad, or completely strip the carpet out of the car if it is. If you don't, you're going to have much worse problems than a stained headliner cover.

That's going to be an expensive mistake.
