How can non natives help with the waste problem

Hi y'all, it's my 3rd time going to Indonesia for more than 3 weeks and something has been bothering me.

The amount of plastic waste everywhere is making me so sad. The first time I thought it must be tourists, bc who'd want to soil their own living space. But then my in-laws said that the place that they live, Kediri, almost never ever has tourists.

But Bali is no better. Waste everywhere even places where no one ever comes bc of rainstorms.

So my question is what can I do to help. Is there anything I can do?

It makes me genuinely upset to see such a beautiful country in such a state

Dog waste

so I recently got a dog and am now constantly thinking about dog waste as a system.

our human waste is plumbed from toilet - to septic tanks, or waste treatment. so we developed a system thats sort of clean.

meanwhile dog owners are picking up dog shit by hand in - Plastic bags. these are then put in bins and burned. Is that a good system? Considering that in developed countries now pets are in almost 40% of houses.

i decided to buy biodegradable bags but then realised whats the point they go in the bin too? So unless there is some kind of composting of these, thats the only solution I can think of…

thoughts?

We need an economy without the compulsion to grow, one that doesn't require constant growth but respects the planetary boundaries.

Your side access has been “getting ready” since 2022. 😅 Broken chairs, cracked pots, renovation offcuts and the barbecue that retired three summers ago—it all adds up. With NSW Get Ready Weekend approaching on 19–20 September, now is a good time to inspect your driveway, backyard and access areas

Hello I have a big....I mean huge Tent building that I want to sell...How big you may ask? It is 2700 square ft. 52 foot square and approximately 35 foot tall. I live in Alaska and was planning on using it to build a log cabin underneath it. That didn't pan out.

I can ship all 16000 lbs of it to anywhere in the lower 48 or Canada. It would be a great addition to anyone looking for dry storage for heavy equipment or the like. Ask me in the comments if interested.

Beyond the Numbers

UNEP estimates that 1.05 billion tonnes of food waste are generated worldwide each year, including edible food and associated inedible parts.

Food waste averages 132 kilograms per person globally each year, according to UNEP's 2024 Food Waste Index.

Households account for 60% of the food waste measured by UNEP, compared with 28% from food service and 12% from retail.

The Food Waste Index measures downstream waste at retail, food service, and household stages; it does not measure upstream food loss before retail.

The UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 calls for halving per-capita food waste at retail and consumer levels by 2030.
