Options for bio 168
I’m trying to switch careers, I’m only taking two classes this semester, but it looks like I’ll only be able to sign up last for next semester. For those who’ve done this:
- Does bio 168 get waitlisted before the last sign up group?
- Any other options for how to take this? Has anyone tried other schools in the area? It seems Durham tech has the same problem, but wondering if there are other options.
Thanks.

I’m also a visiting student switching careers, and I took BIO-168 in the spring. It does typically get waitlisted before the final groups begin registering for classes. Go ahead and add yourself to a waitlist because you might get lucky. It worked for me. General guidance from advisors is that if you’re 5th on the waitlist or lower, there’s a high chance that you’ll make it in.
I’m taking BIO-169 now and didn’t make it in using the same method. However, there’s a date just prior to the start of the semester that everyone on the waitlist is removed. At that point, if someone enrolled drops, you can register on a fist-come-first-served basis, so you have to be monitoring the different sections on self-service as often as you can. I kept the page refreshing next to me at work and managed to snag a seat in a section.
I can’t comment on Durham Tech or other local schools.
Good luck and I wish you success with the career transition!

In same position as you, Durham Tech doesn’t fill as quickly but has the issue where you can’t see who’s teaching what til they post it (which they don’t announce and do so on a staggered basis).
Can’t say anything about how quickly this class fills though. There were seats for most larger classes when I registered as a visiting student for classes this fall till after visiting registration, after which you had to just pray you’d get something.
