Hi, I'm a student and solo developer working on a VPN for Windows and Android. Right now I have around 5–10 users, but all of them are friends or people I know.

I tried Google Ads, but I still don't understand how to reach people who may actually need the product. My audience is probably too broad, and I'm not sure how to narrow it down.

If you were in a similar situation, what helped you get your first real users or downloads outside your personal circle? I'm not looking to promote the project here. I would just appreciate advice from people who have already gone through this stage.
