News Utah group says there’s a faster way to block Flock cameras

Spend that click elsewhere, emphasis mine.

TL;DR the flock contract allows for cancelation in the case of public sentiment. UDOT could just cancel the contract, it seems:

The nonprofit Utah Civic Compact is urging the Utah Department of Transportation to cut its contract with the company, a move they say would sharply limit the number of cameras and the surveillance they conduct.

Members of the group are lobbying state lawmakers for tighter restrictions on license plate data, but they told reporters Friday that immediate intervention from UDOT would be faster and easier than an act from the Legislature.

They found the workaround by reading line-by-line through the agency’s contract with Flock Group Inc., which allows it to end the agreement centered on installations in the event it “determines that the public does not support the Company’s activities,” according to a copy provided to Utah News Dispatch.

Ain’t nobody reading line by line, but I’m glad AI caught it when asked. Heh

People absolutely read line by line. Just because you rely on AI for everything doesn't mean everyone does.

“We wouldn’t be determining the big-picture questions of whether these cameras should be out there or, you know, what the purpose is,” Gleason said. “So those types of questions would have to go to the law enforcement agencies that put them out there.”

Please contact Udot to express your concerns about non-governmental surveillance devices.

Unless it gives us the option to vote for or against these damn things, I am not interested.

Really, couldn't be bothered to read it because you think voting is the end all be all? Yeesh

What about a voter initiative?

Pressuring UDOT to cancel their contract is way more straightforward than an initiative but if you want to spearhead that effort, never hurts to have multiple efforts going on.

Someone took a shotgun to one of them on the roads I frequently commute. I'd say that's one the quickest ways to deal with these fucking things.

Too bad the answer is behind a paywall and we'll never see it.

“…immediate intervention from UDOT would be faster and easier than an act from the Legislature.”

TLDR tell udot to cut their contract.

Hmm, there’s no paywall when I read it.
