My children's Urdu subject teacher apso speaks Punjabi. This influences how they teach.

My children now think that "somvaar" is Monday, not "pir". "Mangalvaar" is Tuesday, and."Budhvaar" is Wednesday.

How do I approach this? I mentioned it once in passing and was told pir, magal, budh are fine, but these aren't incorrect"

نے میکدہ نہ محفلِ رنداں ہے آج کل

مستی رہی نہ عیشِ فراواں ہے آج کل

سودائیِ ہوس تو بہت ہیں ابھی، مگر

جنسِ گرانِ عشق کا فقداں ہے آج کل

اب ہوگئی جہاں میں گراں امن و آشتی

اور کشت و خون ہوگیا ارزاں ہے آج کل

دیکھو تو سوئے لالہِ پژمردہِ چمن

کہ نوحہ خوانِ گلشنِ ویراں ہے آج کل

ساقی نہ جام ہے، نہ مئے ناب ہے یہاں

کتنا عجیب سا یہ خمستاں ہے آج کل

مدت گزر چکی تھی کہ تحسینؔ تھا خموش

Hi! I’ve seen this question asked many times in this sub, but I’m overwhelmed by the number of resources and want to know where to start. I’m trying to learn Urdu as an English speaker, as my partner’s family primarily speaks Urdu and it means a lot to them that I’m even trying.

I’ve started using the Ling app, but it only teaches phrases. I’m realizing that I don’t understand the grammar structure, the differences in wording depending on gender/formality/seniority, or even the basic alphabet. I need a beginner-friendly resource. Is there a certain website, book, YouTube channel, etc that people largely agree upon as a go-to resource? Thank you in advance!!

Hi! I'm Pakistani but born and raised in Australia. I didn't learn English until I was 4-5 years old and my parents became so focused on teaching me English that we completely stopped speaking Urdu at home. Now, I can understand most simple/everday Urdu, even think in it and occasionally dream in Urdu but I can't speak at all. Is anyone else in the same boat? I want to be able to converse with my grandparents and family overseas better. What's the best way to go about learning again? I tried getting my family to start speaking at home but it never lasts. I also watch Bollywood movie with English subtitles and I think it helps slightly.
