Unable to connect to the internet even though the wired and wireless connection are up

Hi everyone,

First of all, I'm not techsavy or really familiar with Ubuntu, so please forgive my imprecision

I have a home server that I used during the last year, build on Ubuntu. Everything worked fine until yesterday. I had a schedule power outage in my area and since the reboot, I'm unable to access any website, or resolve to some address.

The weird thing is that I can ssh into my server using both my wired and wireless addresses.

I tried updating my server using apt-offline but nothing changed.

I tried to edit my .yaml file for netplan but didn't work either.

My last resort would be to wipe my machine and restart from scratch, but if I can prevent myself from doing this, it would be better.

If you have any ideas or any guidance for me, it would be much appreciated !

check if /etc/resolv.conf is just pointing to a local stub or something weird, that got me after a power cut once

I had tailscale running and the resolv.conf was filled with routing for tailscale. I uninstalled tailscale and cleared the resolv, conf file. Is there a way to regenerate as default ?

I'm able to send and receive packets

--- 1.1.1.1 ping statistics ---
16 packets transmitted, 16 received, 0% packet loss, time 15020ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 12.807/15.567/24.118/2.641 ms

Good: bare network is working.

And what with "ping one.one.one.one" or (easier) "ping google.com"

Have you checked the ipconfig command or looked at the WiFi or wired settings through the Settings app? It sounds like you may not be getting DNS set up. Perhaps your DHCP server isn’t giving out information that you need to get off of your local network.

Ok folks, as u/StandFew6853 mentionned, it was a issue with my /etc/resolve.conf file. I've set it to

nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4

It seems to work now

Thanks for your help !
