Question: Unanswered Restaurant sent me a "free Palestine" note because my first and last name are Jewish, uber refuse to address me

Hey all, im staying in a European town for the week with a friend's group.

We had several orders made from this one Asian place using Uber eats with no issues whatsoever.

Yesterday it was my turn to order, after ordering the delivery arrived with a note saying "Free Palestine".

I have no ties to neither Israel or Palestine and I've never been to neither. The only thing i can think about that links me to this conflict is my Jewish sounding name.

Obviously we didn't eat the food fearing it was tempered with.

When i contacted uber support with the photos of the incident i got rerouted to a "mail support team" who responded with a generic "your images didn't match the feedback"

I've tried asking multiple times for elaboration and even added additional images and yet i keep getting the same generic message.

Is there anything i can do?

edit:

The restaurant name is Itoshii HC in Utrecht, Netherlands

The bag was sealed with Staples and the note was inside the bag

Since OP isn’t answering a single question I’m gonna assume this is just rage bait content farming and not a word of this is true.

That being said without an actual location(again fake story) there’s no way anyone can tell you what can be done since this international company operates differently per country. Not per region, per country.

Also you gotta be specific in what you’re saying. Is the note on the outside of a sealed bag? Okay then the random driver added it. Is it on top of the box inside the sealed bag? Okay then the restaurant added it. Not even uber support knows what you’re talking about here.

Apologies for daring to work on an actual job and not being on reddit during my working hours.

The restaurant name is Itoshii HC in Utrecht, Netherlands

The bag was sealed with Staples and the note was inside the bag

First you’re staying in town on vacation with a friend group, but now you’re working on a Sunday? Yep totally real post, hope you get what you wanted out of this post🤖

I really don't see the issue here, combining remote work with PTO is a great way to take a long vacation without exhausting all my PTO.

And when your clients takes Friday and Saturday off you do so as well.

But it's all obviously a lie because beep boop im a bot.

I'm just here for the comments.

You should name the country and the restaurant. Otherwise, there’s not much Reddit can do to help.

“Is there anything I can do” eat the food or don’t. Or change your name on DoorDash. You just said customer support won’t help so what the hell can we do

The truth OP needed.

6

u/goodguydolls Aug 02 '26

Free Palestine

4

u/Useful_Committee7311 Aug 02 '26

I wouldn’t eat it either because it was probably spit on or tampered with somehow

1

u/International-Shoe40 Aug 02 '26

I mean it probably wasn’t but why risk it

1

u/SwampTerror Aug 03 '26

To be fair we probably eat a lot more spit by overworked employees than we would like to think. A lot of people in our communities are narcissists, sadistic, psychopathic.. and they handle our food. Many don't wash their hands. Etc.

See it as a training exercise for your immune system and pray they don't have herpes of the mouth.

Happy eating!

Free Palestine isn't a threat. So not sure why you would be entitled to free food. It wasn't promised 3000 years ago sorry. If I had a restaurant that note would be on every order.

u/FBI_Open_Up_Now Aug 02 '26

Sure, and I want to say I agree that OP isn’t entitled to anything free. You should take into account that we don’t know OP’s thoughts on the ongoing situation between Israel and Palestine. OP was hungry and ordered food and was singled out because of his name having Jewish origins. That would be similar to a name that you could say belonged to a person of color and printing and enclosing a picture of Sambo or Mammy with the order. It’s pretty racist to make assumptions right or are you making an exception because you don’t agree with what is happening there. That is the root of how racism/anti-semitism starts.

7

u/slaughtamonsta Aug 02 '26

It's a bit more than a "situation" going on. It's a genocide.

0

u/onefourtygreenstream Aug 02 '26

And what does OP have to do with that?

3

u/Cool-Present-4637 Aug 02 '26

Its actually nothing like the example you gave. Comparing the struggle of black people in America (who were enslaved for 300 years and are currently still face systemic racism) to American Jewish people is completely tone deaf but also exactly the type of argument I'd expect from a Zionist.

1

u/ikejime1 Aug 02 '26

Op said their friends with non Jewish names didn’t get this targeted message. I am not Jewish but I abhor racism in all its forms. A random Jewish person in America could be a direct descendant of a hollocaust survivor and you are justifying targeted intimidation based on their ethnicity and saying it’s tone deaf to compare this to systemic racism. You may have misread the initial message but if not you are just racist

5

u/Signal_Neck9314 Aug 02 '26

OP just has a Jewish name. What have they got to do with Israel’s crimes? Stop being a bigot.

(Oh, and Free Palestine)

5

u/Cool-Present-4637 Aug 02 '26

They just have a Jewish name, why is Free Palastine offensive to them. Judaism isn't zionism but OP is equating the two, not me.

7

u/Signal_Neck9314 Aug 02 '26

Nah, read it again. Their friends ordered from the same place and didn’t get a Free Palestine message. None of us have any idea if OP cares about politics, but the restaurant and you are making assumptions due to bigotry. They just wanted some food and had a Jewish name.

0

u/Cool-Present-4637 Aug 02 '26

They put that a political statement in the bag. Does OP know they're being singled out or do they just feel like a unique and delicate flower?

2

u/Signal_Neck9314 Aug 02 '26

Can we at least agree that if someone has a Muslim or Jewish name we’re not gonna accuse them of being an Islamist extremist or a Zionist extremist?

Israel is a genocidal state, but again, we have no evidence OP has anything whatsoever to do with that country. Do you get it now?

People are exhausting, man.

3

u/slaughtamonsta Aug 02 '26

Israel represents all Jews. (According to Israel)

Do I believe this.....no. But if OP got offended by Free Palestine I'd question his support for the Palestinians

1

u/Signal_Neck9314 Aug 02 '26

Take maybe 5 seconds to think about it. If I ordered food, having an Irish name, and someone put a unionist message in with my order, I’d think that bigots had messed with my food. And I’d be right to be angry about it.

1

u/slaughtamonsta Aug 02 '26

I'd laugh at it lol. I grew up being called a terrorist for being Irish.

I'd write back "Up the RA!"

0

u/Signal_Neck9314 Aug 02 '26

If you would eat that food, then we are in the presence of a genius everyone!

ROFL assuming everyone that sees certain names assumes the person is Jewish is wild. Not everyone gives a fuck to know the common names. The restaurant probably sends that to everyone.

2

u/Signal_Neck9314 Aug 02 '26

If you could read, you would see that OPs friends ordered from the same place a couple times and got no message in their order.

Man, why do people have opinions without doing the bare minimum of reading the story?

2

u/Hope_for_tendies Aug 02 '26

That doesn’t mean they didn’t just start it now that bombing is ramping up

0

u/Signal_Neck9314 Aug 02 '26

Might as well give me 10 more excuses for the restaurant since you’ve already decided OP must be wrong

-2

u/Cool-Present-4637 Aug 02 '26

Be exhausted idgaf. If it's hard to be OP, just imagine if they were a part of any systemically oppressed group. I never called them an Israeli to be clear.

2

u/Signal_Neck9314 Aug 02 '26

But you’re still defending some random guy in Europe being sent a message about the Middle East and having their order potentially spat in, just because they have a Jewish name.

Do you not realise how ignorant you’re coming across as?

0

u/Cool-Present-4637 Aug 02 '26

Every order is potentially spat in if you're self obsessed with a victim complex

2

u/onefourtygreenstream Aug 02 '26

Telling someone free Palestine because they have a Jewish name is like going up to a Muslim woman and saying "Fuck ISIS" because you saw her hijab

0

u/Cool-Present-4637 Aug 02 '26

Is it? Is Isis receiving billions in millitary aid to support their ongoing genocide? I wish israel was just a fringe terrorist group and not something worth bringing up every conversation, but that's not the reality.

2

u/onefourtygreenstream Aug 02 '26

What the fuck does a random Jew in America have to do with any of that??

0

u/Cool-Present-4637 Aug 02 '26

People randomly brining up Isis is out of left field. Free Palastine is something we should be bringing up constantly until zionism as a settler colonial project no longer exists.

2

u/onefourtygreenstream Aug 02 '26

So it would have been okay to send a random Muslim a note on 9/12/2001 that said "Fuck Al-Quida"?

1

u/Cool-Present-4637 Aug 02 '26

Again, is israel a fringe terrorist group or a settlers colonial project? Equating the two is insane. 9/11 was a response to settler colonialism not an act of it.

0

u/onefourtygreenstream Aug 02 '26

That's not the point, the point is that why is it okay to blame random, unaffiliated Jews for the actions of a Jewish group halfway across the world and not okay to do the same for Muslims.

Here's an example you may be able to understand. Russia has killed twice as many people in Ukraine and meets just as many, if not more of, the criteria for genocide as Israel does.

Is it okay to go up to a man living in Milwaukee named Dimitri and tell him "Free Ukraine"? It isn't, right?

Why is it okay to do that to someone you think could be a Jew?

That restaurant needs to be shut down and severely audited ASAP.

1

u/JaguarZestyclose5961 Aug 07 '26

No matter what circumstance, “free Palestine” is correct. Have a nice day

-4

u/Cannot-Forget Aug 02 '26

Trying to fit in with the modern day antisemites will net you the exact same results Jews have suffered for a thousand years.

You can see them in the comments here already. There's nothing you can say that will make them treat you as a human being. No purity test will ever be enough for them.

I'm sorry you went through that. This exact nonsense (Times a hundred) is why Israel had to be recreated in the first place.

2

u/enigma9o7 Aug 02 '26

There would be no need to free Palestine if the State of Israel hadn't been "created" in the first place, that makes no sense.

1

u/4ypno Aug 02 '26

....anyways free palestine

-6

u/RatonhnhaketonK Aug 02 '26

You aren't a victim

-4

u/jamnewton22 Aug 02 '26

Who gives a shit. Throw it out and move on with your life

-1

u/psilocybin6ix Aug 02 '26

I don't think it's specifically directed at you ... probably something they put on all their orders. Definitely mention it on Google and Yelp reviews and don't shop from there anymore.

7

u/BarryMckockuner Aug 02 '26

His friends who don’t have Jewish names ordered there and did not get notes, learn to read.

1

u/SwampTerror Aug 03 '26

The problem with this point is it lacks the logic that maybe that same worker making the notes wasnt working at those other times they ordered.
