Chance Me current junior in hs, what should I do to make my application more competitive? (hoping for hdfs or psych)

hi, I’m a current junior in hs, UT is my dream school amd my sister goes there currently (pre-med), but I’m scared my application isn’t strong enough, what should I do? I want to be a child psychologist, so I would probably apply hdfs or psych

dem:
- second gen south asian female
- high income
- dfw area
- I went to a junior high for 9/10 and now I’m going to a senior high for 11/12 so looks a little different

scores:
- super super competitive hs (class is 1500 people)
- not top 10% and my school doesnt rank outside of that
- not sure what unweighted is yet, but weighted is 4.3/5
- 1370 sat first try, planning on retaking and trying act too (740 R, 630 M)
- APs taken: HGAP (5), WHAP (4), APES (5)
- APs currently taking: Spanish lang, precal, lang, apush, bio
- APs planning on taken senior year: stats, gov, and dc lit (planning on taking child development related classes senior year)

ecs:
- choir all 4 years
- 200+ hours volunteering as a camp counselor at a summer camp for people with disabilities
- member of the youth council at my local food bank
- starting mental health passion project and planning on extending to club at my school
- speech and debate member in 9th and officer in 10th
- extra after school choir member for all 4 years
- cold-emailing aba centers and therapists offices to ask for internship/shadowing?
- president of club that wrote letters to cancer patients in local children’s hospitals at the junior high

circumstances:
gpa is a low because my best friend passed my sophomore year so I was struggling - should I include that in additional info? unlikely to be ranked because of this

what should I do to make my application stronger? thank you for any advice!

Advice If I (applying for undergraduate admission) submit my resumé for UT through the common app, and then update it through the MyStatus portal, which one will UT look at?

Title. I'm a total idiot and accidentally submitted the wrong fucking resumé in the common app (it has some minor timing differences and also doesn't include some stuff), but I know that once I get access to the MyStatus portal, I can submit my resumé again. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether or not they look at the updated resumé or not. Do I email admissions about this? Does anyone have similar experience/know the answer to this question 😭

Question UT Free Application Week on Common App

Post image
14 Upvotes

I’m a Texas Resident applying on Common App because I’m applying to majority OOS schools, but UT (and UNT) says I can still waive the application fee on Common App during Free App Week. Anyone know where you select this option? I’ve looked on the personal profile and UT’s specific application, and can’t find this. I attached an image of what their website says above. Thanks!!

  • President of my schools NAHS society, also gained about 40 service hours through it.
  • About 80 other hours gained from misc other volunteering events.
  • Went to UTNIF summer program for speech and debate (didn’t learn or do much but since it was at Ut might show interest idk).

Chance Me Should I apply EA or RD? Do I even have a chance???? / Psychology

Hi! I'm currently a high school senior planning to major in Psychology, and I wanted to know if I should apply to EA even though my SAT score is bad, or if I should take the time to improve it slightly and apply to RD. Here are my stats 😰

- In-state & top 5.20% (not auto-admit, unfortunately)
- 4.0 UW GPA & 5.33/6 weighted
- SAT: 1210 :/
- aps: AP Precalculus, AP Psychology, & ap seminar
- current aps: AP English 4, AP Business w/Personal Finance, AP Calc AB
- dual: biology, anatomy & phys, sociology, us history, english 3, economics, government,

- Neuroscience club VP - grew membership (estimated 200%?) & partnered with a district after-school program to provide fun lessons about neuroscience across elementary schools in the district
- HOSA Community Service Officer - active member for 4 years & competitive member for 2, now overseeing all volunteering and service opportunities in the club & developing new opportunities
- Science NHS officer - facilitating after-school tutoring for students getting tutored in advanced science subjects
- Key Club Editor - active member for 4 years; created newsletters for the club & won top 3 for best newsletter award at LEDCON (kind of like a state convention?)
- NHS Member
& some other positions (origami club sec & class officer)

- Media & Marketing role in a STEM-centered non-profit
- Health & Psychology Education TikTok account (3.2k followers/3.8M+ total views)
- Work experience (family business & local coffee shop)
- 200+ community service hours

I think my essay is pretty solid, but my SAT is just bad.

Advice GPA Needed to Apply to RTF

hi guys I’m planning to apply this year for RTF as a transfer student for fall ‘27 and I wonder what gpa is “recommended” or what gpa did you guys have when you were admitted to the program

I think highest I can do rn is 3.5-3.6, I got a C in the spring semester for a gov class and I want to retake it to raise my gpa but my schedule is a bit packed with school almost everyday and working on the weekends

I say this because the only class option there is is an 8 weeks aka fast paced which I don’t know can handle it

*note: I’m working on my essay everyday because I know that’s important*

Question Should I do the Optional Essay Prompt?

Hello all. I’m mostly done with my UT Austin application (ECE) and have four essays written. The one I’m unsure about is the optional prompt: “Please share background on events or special circumstances that you feel may have impacted your high school academic performance” (300 words).

I’ve had a turbulent high school career, mostly from family circumstances, and I was under a lot of stress. But my grades didn’t suffer, and my record is strong, though I’m just outside the top 5% of my class. My counselor knows about the situation and may mention it in her report.

I’m wondering whether skipping the prompt could hurt me, since UT is my top choice. Has anyone dealt with this, or know how readers treat this optional prompt when the circumstances didn’t show up in grades? Any advice is appreciated.
