FinancialAid Financial aid consequences for dropping from 12 units to 8 units? Please help!

Does anyone have experience dealing with financial aid changes after dropping below full-time units?

I have a class that's giving me episodes and disrupting my sleep. People are telling me that they can physically see me falling apart. Prof is not willing to provide meaningful assistance. I'm seriously considering withdrawing, given that my financial aid will not be impacted.

I'm completely fine with getting a W on my transcript, but does anyone know what might happen to my financial aid? If my aid gets derailed or if I would have to pay anything, I'll keep the class. I will, without a doubt, be enrolled full-time next semester. I am gonna try to talk with the financial aid office tomorrow.

If it helps, I am a transfer student. I did not receive any special scholarships. Thanks.

Edit: I spoke with someone at Financial Aid today, and they said I would not be charged for the Fall because it is past the drop deadline, and aid is covering the class I have dropped, and this class if I drop it. Regarding SAP, they said I need to be fully confident in what I'm taking full time in Spring and complete ALL those credits (12 or more).

I am still going to get a second opinion from Financial Aid, and I have opened a case with an advisor.

In my experience, schools will often allow students to retain full-time status with a reduced load and thus retain all aid. Two of my three children did this while in college. Now, if the reduced hours lead to a reduced tuition bill, then the aid might be prorated. You can usually get this type of help if you have a disability OR you indicate you are going through a health crisis (physical or mental). I would get in touch with your advisor and, if they can’t help, make an appointment with the dean of your school. You should be able to get assistance with this situation.

I think you should be fine. It’s a bigger issue if students dropped before the third week of the class, so then it’s as if they were never enrolled. Talk with your advisor, though.
