Schedule Spring schedule advice? (studio art student)

Okay... first of all, let's pretend this is in a magical world where I get all of the classes I want...

Would this be too much art stuff for one semester? I know STEM students are suggested to only take 2 stem classes so they don't explode, so I'm wondering if the same applies to me as an art major.

Two hypothetical schedules right now:

#1

Elementary German 102

Print II

Painting I

Foundations of Graphic Design

#2

Elementary German 102

Print II

Photo I

Principles of AD/PR

#1 is definitely more art-heavy, but both have my language course, two ARTS, and a MEJO. Max 2 classes a day for both schedules.

My dilemma is that I REALLY want to take Painting I next semester, but I also kinda want to take AD/PR so I can have a MEJO class that counts towards the minor... they just don't fit in the same schedule... so I have these two schedule options as a compromise.

Idk... just seeing if there are any upperclassmen here to scare me away from 3 art-related classes at once -- or to tell me that it wont be that bad and i've totally got this... whatever you feel like sharing.

(lmk if any of this didn't make sense... i'm very tired wile writing this)

Question spring class schedule worries

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello!

I'm a freshman majoring in Public Policy, and have already completed all of my gen ed's (besides creative writing, which I will complete via ENGL 131), so I'm struggling to find which classes to take without overloading myself with work.

I am mainly trying to decide whether or not to take ECON 101 here or at community college this summer. I've heard it's extremely difficult here, and there is no part of me that is interested in economics as a career path. If I do not take ECON, I was considering taking either PLCY 340 in its place or not taking a class at all in its place, leaving me at 13 credit hours.

Besides that one slot, I am pretty certain of the rest of my schedule, just want to make sure I don't overwork myself and perform worse in my classes because of it. (for reference, I also have an on campus job and online internship currently, but neither are too demanding)

For anyone who's taken or knows of these classes, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi has anyone done ADHD testing at the unc pyschology clinic? If so how much was it and how long was the whole process. I tried looking at other practices in chapel hill and durham but they're all $1800-$3000 which is way out of my budget

Question Help with math 232

Does anyone have any past practice exams/quizzes, study material, youtube recommendations, etc. I have professor Logan gray, she’s nice but I get really lost in class sometimes

Exam 2 is coming up next week and I’m feeling more discouraged than ever. The first exam I got a 51 despite getting pretty much 90+ on all the recitation quizzes. I think I was mistaken to think the actual exam would be on that level of difficulty and i definitely didn’t study enough. Exam 2 is coming around and im trying my best to study for it everyday but i dont know if it’s enough :((

It’s also my first semester as a freshman and i dont think ive built good study habits yet and im taking two other stem classes and a lab… idk its just been difficult

Schedule Is PHYS114 always at 8 AM?

I need to take phys114 either next semester or the one after. I swore to myself that I would not sign up for any 8 am classes after this semester, yet, the only section for phys114 is MWF 8am. Should I gamble and wait until FA27 for a different time or should I suck it up?

Admissions/Application Question Any current Tarheels willing to read my personal statement for UNC CH?

Applying for Early Action this Thursday, and I really want to get in because it's the only in-state school that offers a Medical Anthropology major, but I'm pretty sure my personal statement sucks (mainly the second half). Any admitted students willing to review it and my activites + honors section in the context of Chapel Hill? Thanks!

Edit: Tar Heels for title!

i just submitted my unc app yesterday and im lowk stressed bc its my dream school and i submitted scores. My gpa/rank are above average + my ec's are decent, but my score is making me nervous, i submitted a 31 overall (35r, 34e, 25m, and 30s) As you can tell, the math is what makes me nervous lol as a prospective biology major (yes ik unc doesn't admit on major but considering its a stem major...yikes) the avg overall at my (rural) school is a 28/29 though!

I was told to submit bc they should see my other subscores, but can anyone who submitted similar scores please validate me bc i am panicking lowk

edit: i am instate!

Admissions/Application Question Extenuating Circumstances

Hi everyone, I'm a high school senior who's applying to UNC this fall, and I have a quick question about extenuating circumstances within my application. Does UNC really take circumstances into consideration when students are applying? Have you guys seen anyone get in with considerable circumstances?

To be more specific, my circumstances are that my mom died when I was in middle school, and I have had to essentially take care of my disabled brother and my other brother since then. Grief has been something in my life ever since then, but I feel like I was able to give my school and extracurriculars 100% effort, so idk.

Any advice or comments would be deeply appreciated. I'm just really curious to see how UNC views applicants with circumstances. I understand that you still have to have respectable stats to get in, but I just wanna see some actual students' perspectives on it.

Question I'm dropping out of kenan-flagler lol

congratulations to everyone who got in but I'm done and rage quitting into healthcare. I hope that the person who gets my spot likes it more than I do.

how competitive is it to drop down from the major to the minor? I was told that I could either drop out of the major entirely and apply back into the business school for the minor, or I could "apply to formally drop down at a later date with no guarantee that there will be enough space". I'm filling out the drop down request application right now. does anyone know the chances that they will let me drop down? I'm just really frustrated because I am literally allowed to enroll in all the classes I need for the minor, but I somehow can't drop down unless they admit me to the minor.

Question KF First semester recommendations

Hey everyone!

just got into the business school and I’m trying to plan my first semester. I’ve already finished all my other requirements, so I’ll only be taking business classes from here on out. I have an early registration date and want to take advantage of it.

What would you recommend my first semester look like? Any tips on classes, professors, or combos to avoid. Thanks everyone

SPORTS 🏀 🏈 🐏 Looking for a High-Res Image with this Logo

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi, I was scrolling through old yearbooks (as one does at 1am on a Sunday) and came across this UNC logo I have never seen before. From some cursory research it appears to be a specific logo used by UNC Club football in the 70’s and 80’s but I can’t find any clear images of the logo.

If any Carolina Alum or super sleuths happen to have a better picture of this logo, I’d very much appreciate you sending it over!

Discussion Looking for a “penpal”!

I love scrapbooking and diaries and figured it would be fun to write letters on stationary. the only twist is that I don’t feel like putting my address on the internet lol!!!

so I was wondering if anyone on campus wanted to do letter exchanges with little drawings, snacks, and other decorated aesthetic tidbits. we can exchange them in person or even put them on random spots on campus somewhere for a “quest vibe” :))

Admissions/Application Question Activities Section

Hello! I'm a high school senior looking to apply to UNC Chapel Hill for their archaeology program. I was looking over the school's Common App since the early action deadline is coming up and I noticed that there was an activities section. When I clicked it, it said, "If you wish to submit your resume, you may upload it here." I assume that it's optional but I want to do it. I'm just confused since there is already an activities section in the general Common App and I can't find any information on it. Anyways, what is this resume of my activities supposed to look like? What exactly should I include? How long should it be? Please just tell me anything that may help, I'll really appreciate it. Thanks!

Discussion B school decisions

For those of you who may have not received the best news yesterday about your Kenan Flagler decision,

I’m sorry and while I know saying there’s other paths doesn’t carry much weight there truly is. I have friends who had IB and private equity internships their sophomore summer with high GPAs and still didn’t get in but that never stopped them and they still are succeeded and getting those kinds of offers. If you enjoy business like classes there’s the entrepreneurship minor and management and society major.

If this is was your junior year and last time trying, I know this isn’t the news you wanted to see especially after putting in all the work and thinking what more can you do. If you are a sophomore and your first rejection don’t give up, if this is what you want to do then you got this. Regardless you all are Tar Heels! 🐏🐏🐏 I’m happy to help in any way i can whether that’s advice on next steps or asking a question (I’m a senior at KF but was rejected my first time).

Question Best Low Effort Jobs for Students?

I want to make money, but I cannot get a job that takes my full attention. I need a job (preferably remote or on campus) that lets me do schoolwork during downtime, and I would hope there is lots of downtime.

Just need to get this off my chest As someone who has pursued the business route since, getting rejected by KF twice has completely crushed my ego

As someone who’s always been considered a “lock” for the b school, I’ve been taking a lot of things said about KF apps by students personally.

I’ve been pursuing the corporate route since I was in 6th grade. I knew everything I had to do to get there and have been GRINDING since middle school for KF. When I got rejected sophomore year, I was absolutely crushed. I was alwayssss one of those kids where people said “Oh it’s obvious you’re going to get in”, as people around me knew my devotion to getting in and how stacked my ECs were.

As a junior, I have a 3.8 GPA, and numerous exec positions across campus. I worked more than one professional position last year and an internship. I got my personal essay checked by over 5 people. I took a b school class every sem after j got rejected. I did not get an offer to the b school for either a major or a minor.

What has upset me the most is the general student body’s language surrounding the b school and how “easy it is to get in”. And I guess they aren’t wrong? I’ve heard many things like “they’ll accept basically anyone that looks like they try”, and “damn everyone I know that’s applied has gotten in to the b school” and I’m starting to think, am I just dumb? I know many of the people who have applied / reapplied and have personally told me I’m a much harder worker than them. Ofc they’re great applicants bc they got in, but am I really that bad of an applicant??? It’s really hard working the amount I have and getting rejected when the general idea is that anyone with even an ounce of effort gets it. And it’s hard hearing about my friends with 3.2 GPAs that hold no exec positions and bs’d their application that they got in and I didn’t.

All of my friends that reapplied from last year got in. I, the person that everyone assumed was an automatic acceptance, am the sole person that did not get in again. I came to UNC for Kenan Flagler. I was 12 years old researching KF.

More than that, hearing my parents disappointment on the phone made me so so sad. They were so proud I was going into business when I got to UNC (they’re immigrants) and I had to hear their voices drop on the phone and I’m just heartbroken.

I know a lot of people say that KF is not your only route to the business world, but unless you are Econ, going corporate from UNC is incredibly different. Not impossible, but different. Yes it is not the end of my world. But this has made it incredibly hard for me to go the route I always wanted. I’m a sports administration major (like many ppl who get rejected) and now I’ve kinda shoehorned myself into a field that I don’t even think I want to go into. It all just sucks man. I woke up at 4 am and I’m wondering what I’m missing that just changed the direction of my college career.
