📌 STOP. POSTING. BO. THREADS.

Alright folks, enough is enough.

Every BO/hygiene post turns into:

race-baiting

weird stereotypes

drama for no reason

We’re not doing this anymore.

🚫 All BO/hygiene posts = removed

🚫 All race-baiting in the comments = removed

🚫 Repeat offenders = time-out

We get it. Sometimes people smell bad. It happens. But we can’t keep having the same posts about it over and over.

For that reason, these threads will be removed going forward.

ANNOUNCEMENT Title: 🚨 New r/UManitoba Rules Start Tomorrow + First Day Back Reminder! 🚨

Hey Bisons! Wishing all teens and students an amazing first day back at the University of Manitoba 🎉. Whether you’re on campus or just part of this community, we hope this year brings learning, growth, and positive experiences.

🔔 Important Update: Starting tomorrow, r/UManitoba will officially use an updated rules system. Going forward, all post/comment removals will be based on these new rules — or under Rule 12 (Moderator Discretion). This change is about safety, respect, and fairness, and we want to make sure this space is helpful for everyone, not just students. Hate, harassment, or unsafe behaviour will not be tolerated.

📱 You’ll also see scheduled reminders to download and use the UM Safe App, an important step to keep yourself and others safe on campus.

📜 r/UManitoba Rules (Effective Tomorrow)

  1. Unrelated Content – Must be loosely related to UManitoba.
  2. English Content – Posts in English, unless a clear context is provided.
  3. Respect and Decency – No rudeness, hostility, or harassment. Ban escalation: 4 days → 14 days → 30 days → Permanent
  4. Academic Integrity – No Cheating – No test banks, completed assignments, or answers. Permanent ban.
  5. Canadian Law Applies – Threats, hate, fraud, or criminal activity = Permanent ban + possible reporting.
  6. Low-Effort Content – No meaningless posts/comments, vague titles, or “k.”
  7. Spam / Advertising – No spam, ads, or referral links. UM research surveys are allowed under the “Survey” flair.
  8. Discrimination – No racism, sexism, bigotry, or hate speech.
  9. Privacy and Safety – No personal information. Screenshots must censor identifiers.
  10. Freedom of Expression – With Limits – Expression is valued, but harassment and abuse will be removed.
  11. Misinformation and Harmful Content – No false, misleading, or unsafe posts.
  12. Moderator Discretion – Mods may remove content or ban users to protect the community. Appeals via ModMail.

This community is for everyone — students, staff, alumni, and locals. Please keep that in mind as you post and comment. Let’s make r/UManitoba safe, respectful, and welcoming for all

Discussion & Advice Nursing Advice

Hi everyone! I’m a fourth-year nursing student hoping to get a UNE position, but I’ve had no luck despite tailoring cover letters, emailing unit managers, and applying through the WRHA website.

Seeing many of my friends secure positions has been discouraging, and I’m worried about going into senior practicum without that extra ward experience, especially since I’ll be coming from a community rotation.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? I’d really appreciate any advice on finding a UNE position or hearing how senior practicum went without one.

Thank you!

Discussion & Advice Exam anxiety?

• Upvotes

I took my chem exam yesterday and I was moderately prepared. But the night before I couldn’t sleep, so I pulled an all nighter then drank a cup of coffee and an energy drink. During the exam, I felt like I couldn’t breath and I was almost having a panic attack. I felt like all my senses were attacking me. For ex there were creaky chairs and everyone someone would move in the chair it would creak and i genuinely felt like throwing up and running out of the room everytime i’d hear it creak. I felt the same way when i was hearing the smallest piece of movement like papers rustling for ex. I’ve never felt that way in my life before, like i’ve taken exams in highschool where i’ve been perfectly fine even after pulling all nighters. But this time, I genuinely almost started crying just because i felt so overstimulated, and when i got home i did cry because i felt so unlike myself. I started guessing on the MC because i wanted to get out of there so badly. Is this normal? does anyone else experience this? and would you say it’s because i didn’t get any sleep, or that this is inductive of a larger problem ?

Discussion & Advice I’m single how do I approach a girl

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some genuine advice, especially from women.
I’m single, and one thing I’ve been struggling with is knowing how to approach a girl I’m attracted to without coming across as awkward, creepy, or making her uncomfortable.
I’m not necessarily a shy person, but sometimes I overthink things. I don’t always know how to start a conversation, keep it interesting, or tell whether she’s actually interested in talking to me.
I also don’t want to rely on dating apps. I’d prefer to meet someone naturally, whether that’s at a coffee shop, the gym, university, or just somewhere around Winnipeg.
For the women here, how would you prefer a guy to approach you respectfully? And for the guys, what’s worked for you?
I’m genuinely interested in building a meaningful connection, not just getting someone’s number.
Any honest advice would be appreciated!

Discussion & Advice Looking for a tutor

Hi everyone! I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I’m looking for someone who could offer guidance with circuits. I’m struggling with the course material and would really appreciate someone who could help me understand the concepts and work through problems with me.

Unfortunately, attending office hours isn’t an option with my current class schedule, so I’m trying to find other ways to get help. Because I’m honestly freaking out I’m ngl.

If anyone is available to help, please send me a DM. I’d be immensely grateful for your time and effort. Thank you!

General Opting Out of Health and Detal Plan Refunds

Hello everyone! I'm just wondering when and where we receive our funds after opting out of the health and dental plan. I haven't received my money back yet.

For context, my tuition was paid for by a student loan, does that make a difference in how or when the refund is issued?

Discussion & Advice What is it that people find attractive in others ?

I have been reading some books lately to pass the time between class and work. Books which are both historical and fictional. I find myself very attracted to characters who have the ability to think ahead, plan ahead but also show real emotion when their plans fail miserably. Powerfulness and funny comebacks are also very attractive. The ability to make light of any situation under duress etc.

Discussion & Advice PSYC 1200 Exam Question

I have it in person with chace laffin, and I was curious if EVERYTHING in the textbook is fair game for the exam? For example in chapter 2 “meta analysis” or “bayesian statistics” aren’t mentioned in the powerpoint but theyre in the textbook. Or do i just have to understand the terms he gives out during lectures? Thank you!

Discussion & Advice bio 1020 test #1

Hi! I have my first test for my bio 1020 course tomorrow and I was wondering if its absolutely necessary to study the textbook, for context, I have Jennifer doering and she prides herself on making the powerpoint slides in depth so that we could make do without the textbook. I have read the textbook and I understand it but there's some gaps that aren't on the lecture slides, should I memorize these tiny details or was the test mostly lecture notes + learning outcomes?

Admissions question regarding admission

on the website, it says that the requirement for international students doing a-levels for the science program is

  • English First Language Literature
  • Mathematics
  • One of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, or Physics
  • A fourth academic course

has anyone gotten accepted for bachelors in chemistry without having english first language literature? I've not taken it so would it mean my application would be unsuccessful?
