I'm building a personal TV player for home use, with Samsung Tizen as my current device. It already plays my M3U/Xtream playlists. I'd like to add torrent-backed movie/series search while keeping playback inside my own UI.
The idea is to look up a movie or series by IMDb ID, select the exact season/episode, and have an external service return a playable HTTPS URL. The TV would stream directly from that service. I don't want my VPS downloading/seeding torrents or relaying video, and I don't want to buy/run a home NAS.
I've checked FMHY and the Movies & TV megathread. I've seen Stremio addons, AIOStreams, and debrid/cloud torrent services mentioned, but I'm unsure which are practical for a custom player rather than just their own apps.
What would you recommend?
- Any genuinely usable free option, or the cheapest paid service, with an API or Stremio-compatible addon that can return HTTPS streams? What are the actual storage, bandwidth, file-size and caching limits?
- Any maintained open-source projects worth studying for IMDb lookup and matching exact seasons/episodes to files?
- Anyone tried this on Samsung Tizen? Any problems with codecs, seeking, audio/subtitles, required headers or expiring/IP-bound URLs?
- If free isn't realistic, what's the lowest-cost setup you'd actually use without a NAS or an always-on computer?
I'm asking for technical advice and real experiences, not links to specific titles or promotion of my app. Project documentation or examples would be appreciated. Thanks!
