General Discussion Does anyone else wish we got more scenes from Patrick’s childhood?

Post image
• Upvotes

Recently, I finished watching The Mentalist, and in a way it kind of reminded me of Dexter. Now if any of you have watched Dexter, then you know that there was plenty of scenes from his childhood (especially in the earlier seasons).
I wish we got to see more of Patrick’s childhood too, so I’m curious to hear what you guys think. Would you have liked to see more childhood scenes, or do you think we got enough?

Jisbon "Wait a minute... IF? If I were dying??.."

This was one of my most favorite jisbon moments, funny thing is, Jane gets his nose busted right after 😭

It only got even better ever since Madeline was introduced. The dynamic of how Lisbon had to pay for Jane's schemes and Jane genuinely not wanting to hurt Lisbon/her career is so sweet.

Season 2 Was Red John there at this restaurant with Patrick Jane and Kristina Frye?

Thumbnail

If you pay attention, at the end of this episode, Red John says, “Roll Tide.” Interestingly, at the beginning of the same episode, Kristina uses those exact words while speaking to a waiter at the restaurant.

Could this mean that Red John was actually at the restaurant, listening to their conversation? And could that potentially be connected to how he later kidnapped Kristina from her home?

It might be a subtle clue suggesting that Red John was closer to the events than we initially realised. What do you guys think? Am I reading too much into it, or could there be a connection here?

What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

This episode's ending felt as eerie and climactic as some high tier psychological horror movie, geez... I feel a very weird sense of emptiness after seeing this episode, no clue why... also, any idea on Kristina's fate? Red John doesn't seem like the type to kill her, maybe torture and break her? or will we find out in future eps?

Jane dating Krisina appeals very out of character for Jane to do. Considering how much he resents such gimmicks and people. The resentment can be seen in this episode too, so why? Feels like writing inaccuracy... And I've come to notice that Red John sounds a lot like Jane... Did Simon Baker voice as R.J here or am I going nuts?!

Lemme know your thoughts!

General Discussion Jane's Wife

I'm curious what Jane's wife 'Angela' was like. We don't really get too see any of her background. We do get Jane imagining what Charlotte was like but I'd have loved to see a stereotypical 'dead wife of detective' montage of Anne. Has anyone given a thought to what she was like or how they imagine her?

ETA: I had forgotten her name and I've since changed it!

First-Time Watcher (NO Spoilers!) I think I know who Red John is Spoiler

• Upvotes

I've noticed a lot of season 2 episodes are named with red in it,

and I haven't finished watching episode 23 (at 06:09) and I think Kristina is Red John, I'm not 100% sure but it would make sense why she is able to make so many "Psychic Prediction" and they turn out to be true

This is my first time watching the show and I swear everyone I have ever watched in more popular shows appeared in episodes of the mentalist. It’s actually crazy, every other episode I’m like omg that’s the creepy therapist from Brooklyn nine nine and now there’s fucking HANK SCHRADER. I can’t wait to see who is next 😂😂

General Discussion Why would the director of this series spoon feed viewers?

I don't know if this statement make any sense for you guys but It did for me. I am watching this series for the first time and I am enjoying this series but little less than I expected. I am currently in S2E03. There are some problem with this series like not focusing in Red John that often but one of the biggest problem I have with this series is spoon feeding. Why would director do this? I am currently in S02E03 and I have guessed every single killer and most of the time their motives at exact time they introduce killer character on screen. I don't know how I can say it but there is some subtle hint when they show killer onscreen. The camera angle and body language gives that away. Did you guys also have same experience as I do?

General Discussion Characters with a similar disarming smile and demeanor as Jane?

I’ve looked through several posts asking about characters similar to jane, but i’m less interested in the whole mastermind manipulator with murky morals and more interested in his mask.

im looking for characters with his soft spoken demeanor and always-present smile. he keeps that facade up even when people try their best to break it down, even when they bring up the worst thing that ever happened to him.

like in early season one, when van pelt says what if his family was trying to reach him and couldn’t because he wouldn’t open his mind to the possibility of psychics. his smile stays in place, his voice stays soft, when she apologizes he says oh that’s alright.

that smiling mask he carries is obviously a parallel to the murderer of his family and it’s sooo well executed. so i’m wondering, are there other characters who are similar in this way? hiding behind an armor of sunshine, managing to be detached but also seeming very empathic.

yeah there are a lot of characters who smile to hide their true feelings but it always feels very different than Jane. of course he can provoke when he wants and yea he does a lot but also a lot of his character and strategy is de-escalating rather. very opposite to for example house, sherlock etc. it’s such a sunshiney disarming smile.

Season 6 Just completed s6ep15, and came here to see multiple posts saying they feel bad for Haibach or saying what he got was undeserved. Spoiler

But that is so wrong... I mean even if and that's a HUGE IF, u set aside all the predatory and pedophile characteristics, why does it make sense to anyone that he would want revenge on Jane? Bob was the psychopath who brooe into jane's investigation and stole a list and Bob was the psychopath who tortured him. And he died that should hv been enough of a revenge. It's stupid to Blame PJ for anything Bob did. I mean if we go strictly from a legal PoV the worst that should hv happened to the fake list of ppl is they got arrested and questioned to no avail.

All PJ did was write a few random horrible people's names on page. Everything that happened to them is on Kirkland, I don't understand how so many of us actually blame Jane for what happened.

Red John Dlaczego Todd Johnson powiedział do Patricka "Tiger, Tiger"?

Zastanawiam się, jak dokładny był powód, czy chciał dać PJ poszlake w śledztwie RJ a może uważał że Patrick jest członkiem Blake Association. To samo dotyczy o czym Todd chciał porozmawiać z Jane.

Red John Did anyone feel that the red John confrontation was subdued? I don't why I was expecting a theatrical drama.

Just finished watching the episode of Red John confrontation and don't know why I was so disappointed. I expected some full fledged monologue from Red John instead it felt like a normal murderer caught at the end of the case.

Little bleh but I love Patrick and his wit even in this case.

Please give your honest opinions
